Dragon Age: Inquisition Impressions from EA Access Trial

Are the previous games saves or something being considered?
And if, how so?

You have to use the Dragon Age Keep site and it will show you how things done in previous games affect the world if you choose to bring it in.

You can also edit it to fix anything you wanted to do differently or missed completely.

The Hinterlands is massive and just had my 1st team wipe when hunting for ram meat. These enemies took us all out in 1 hit.

I am giving myself an hour a day till launch day; and tonight after work I was 45mns in, barely starting to roam the Hinterlands, which is huge, when a group of enemies attacked my team and wiped us quickly.

I was not expecting that at all, lol.

I don't feel as guilty now after reading the first couple posts
lots of people trying it on x1 but buying it on another system.

Downloading now, is MP available? That's what I really want to try, see if it really is like Mass Effect

I'll be using my 6 hours wisely, and hope it does not fly by too quick

You can play MP. There are some impressions of it in this thread, at least.

I've been looking all over but is there any way to buy potions? I keep getting wrecked, lol

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if you can and they're very expensive or if you can't at all. Either way, I think you can only carry up to eight. They don't want you to be able to spam those in this one so they reduced their use pretty drastically.

I believe you refill your potions at potion benches in camps, and you occasionally find benches in dungeons too. There's an upgrade at some point that allows you to carry up to 12 instead of 8, I think.

Xbox one.

Well, playing mage, yesterday I ran down my 6 hours in one go. I tried a warrior first, decided to check other classes and the next one was a mage, fell in love with it.

Game is intriguing.
There is so much to do, you can easily get sidetracked and I love it. The visuals are Impressive and I really like the spellcasting effects.

A few times, while exploring, I attacked blindly only to find my whole team wiped. SoB CRAZED bull that was parked right next to the templars and mages that I had just vanquished, I accidentally attacked and he went berserk, killed us all :). Also, while venturing I ran into a high level enemy that, what seems like are randomly placed, just chilling there , OPd, we didn't last a minute.

I was trying to set up some camps, which is part of the main mission, I think, 6 or 8 camps, regardless, I was only able to do 2 in 6 hours, I just kept getting sidetracked with crap load of other things to do.

I haven't had a chance to craft anything

I did collect crap load of herbs which allowed me to upgrade my health, mana(?) and other potions, same goes with killing game, collecting hide, ore and other materials for armor, weapon and other crafts. To do this, you will need to purchase the blueprint/schematics for the item you're looking to craft. I am not sure if the same method has been used in previous DA.

Tbc...

Day 1.

Framerate during cut scenes is shocking. Otherwise this is solid so far. Good mix of qualities from both DA1 and 2. (Yes 2 had some nice ideas).

This sounds a lot more difficult than Mass Effect? I just figured it was Mass Effect in cloth and Steele plate

(never played a dragon age before)

Interesting question. I don't know how save files work with these games. I know the trial version is the full game, just with a limited license. And if you buy it, it just adds a full access license to your trial version.

But since you want to buy a retail disc, I'm not sure if the save file carries over? I think it would?

I guess you just need to insert the disc and can use the trial installation.

Are we limited in the abilities on the trial? I can't seem to upgrade my archer abilities past the initial upgrade and have 2 unspent ability points.

Wow didn't expect the game to be this good. the dialog is excellent.

It asked me to import my dragon age keep before i start it. is that what it is for? do you guys recommend me to use it?

If you've played either or both of the previous games, then definitely. You can input the various decisions that you made in Origins or DA2 into the Keep, and some of those will have consequences in DAI. If you haven't played the previous games, then the default world state is fine, though if you ever get round to a second playthrough I think the Keep would be a good idea regardless, just to shake things up a bit :)

Last night i tried this game, thanks to EA access...

Game is good, but gfx ? No...

If we could play Skyrim on this gen, it would look absolutely way better than this....

i have noticed stuttering at cutscenes..Animations are not smooth...Also i think AA is not so good on this game...I dont think this is because of 900p..Because other 900p games were not like this...

Draw distance is bad, outdoor environment detail ise weak..GFX is the weakest point of this game..

But gameplay, story telling etc are very good...I will definitely buy

Here's hoping the PC version smooths over the graphics issues...

thanks. i haven't finished either so it doesn't matter to me :)

Granted this is my first Dragon Age game, anyone willing, who has experience in both, beginning to end game, to give me a nice pros and cons of Archer vs Dual wield rogue?

Or does it really matter, if you have an archer/dual wield in your party, can't you just switch to each play style at will?

Yup, you can switch between party members at any time to get a taste of each class.

Also as a rogue you have the option of using either dual daggers or bow. If you make a duel dagger character and decide you wanna spend a few points in archery, you can do that so that you can mix it up.

They also mentioned in one of the streams that you can re-spec at some point, not sure if its a certain point in the story or if you can do it at a shop or something, but they said you arent tied down to what you chose. So I'm assuming if you start archer and hate it, you can re-spec to dual dagger at some point.

what kind of argument is this? you know, daggerfall would look pretty good with next-gen graphics as well.

I mean the detail of environment, habitat etc. When i have seen the outdoor on Skyrim, i was shocked and thought how beatiful and rich it is..

But in this game, when i saw it is disappointing. Maybe the snowy regions are like that i dont know. When you see , you will understand what i mean...

Honestly to me it seems like more of an artistic choice though. They don't seem to be going for ultra-realism, and instead seem to be going for something on the spectrum between Skyrim and Fable.

when I booted up skyrim unmodded half a year ago I was shocked how bad it looks tbh.
I don't like the plasty look of the faces in inquisition, but love the enivronment. snowy areas are always hard to make because there's just not as much color, and the colors are where inquisition shines.

According to some reviewers and to Bioware, the Hinterlands is smaller than some other areas in the game - it's medium-sized in relation to all the other regions :)
Might remembering wrong, but think Dawg said the opposite: that the Hinterlands was either the largest or one of the larger ones. And he was near the end at that point.

Do you mean fully modded Skyrim?

There literally are no tactics anymore. You can set the health at which party members will automatically use potions, and you can make it so that they don't automatically use one when there are a certain number left in the inventory.

For abilities, you can only set them as enabled, disabled, or preferred. Preferred are cast before enabled when both cooldowns are available.

Origins's tactics system was very effective and not difficult to understand. When comparing DA:O and Inquisition, you're essentially trading deep party tactics for an enhanced and more effective Tactical cam.

I'm still super excited for the game but goddamn this is stupid

I think it's pretty beautiful, actually. Different strokes for different folks.

I'd accept that this game might not look phenomenal.

But Skyrim looks like hot garbage that has been torn in to by angry raccoons.

Watching Gamersyde's archived live stream right now on my tv.... This game has some very satisfying sound design!
Pretty crazy for a fantasy game...

This game looks beautiful (X1) I'm not sure what some people are comparing this to, especially considering the size of the worlds they have put the player in. If you want a super crisp expereince, grab it on PC, otherwise you can't go wrong on any platform (unless you have a shit PC lol).

Apparently there will be a day 1 patch correcting the frame stutters for cutscenes on consoles, I personally haven't encountered this issue.

I've got 3 hours left, and still undecided on which god damn race to play. Elf or Human :(

isn't it better to specialize in what you're doing rather than juggling two things?

if you can respec with no or little penalty, good shit. I like that.

Man this game is amazing. I've wasted three hours creating characters and playing around with them and still can't decide what to do. Right now I'm stuck between elf archer or human rogue. I really liked my Qun sword/board but not as much as the other classes. Still need to play a Mage then maybe get out of the opening scenes...haha

I fell in love with the game at the title screen. So far it's really good and fun to play. I'm only about 45 minutes into it. After this, CoD, GTA, and MCC, it's clear I won't have time for any other games so I'm trading Mordor (which I haven't touched in weeks) and NBA2k15.

My only gripe is the download is 50ish GB, but then I realized we get the whole game as part of Access and not a demo.
