Dragon Age: Origins still worth playing on PC?

I'm itching to play a sprawling RPG and played about 6 hours of this game on console when it came out, but haven't touched it since. Are there better games out there of this ilk or should I grab it from GMG?

Absolutely worth playing if you want a good PC party based RPG. Its not perfect but its a solid game, that's definitely best played on the PC.

The game was initially developed only for PCs, and it shows in the final product. Way better than the console version and worth finishing.

Great game. Play it! Now!

Head over to the Nexus for plenty of mods, a lot that will make the game look better. I highly recommend the advanced tactics mod as well.

Yes and mods can sort out the UI scaling and add other gameplay improvements. Get the Ultimate Edition if you can, it contains all the really good DLC like Awakening. I'm currently replaying it. I can post links to what mods I'm using if need be.

I bought it day one on XB360 and traded it in day two for the PC version.

Its like a different game. If you like pausing issuing commands and unpausing (ala Baldurs gate) then the PC version is for you. Trying to do that in the console version was a nightmare.

My answer to your question: Yes

Played through it on X360 on release and it was very much worth the time investment then. I'm sure it hasn't aged too well, however, considering it looked dated even then.

The difference between the PC version and the console versions isn't just your typical 'better graphics, mods, etc' - the game was different due to the more strategy focused controls and views available.

I really enjoyed it on PC - I'd recommend it.

It's not only great, it's better than anything Bioware has done since BG2, and i doubt Inquisition will be any better.

Gameplay is awesome and it's a game you instantly feel that it has been in development for a long time because it's very well treated

I'm talking about the PC version ofc, consoles' aren't that good to my tastes because it plays so different

Having played both the console and PC version, the PC version is the way to go. The game was definitely made with PC in mind and it shows.

Abosofreakinlutely. One of my favorite games of all times. Unlike DA2 which plays perfectly fine on consoles DAO does not. Definitely get the PC version. Dont listen to the people bashing the fade quest. sure it sucks on your 5+ playthrough but i enjoyed it the first time .

Just did another playthrough of this! 65 hours as I did almost everything.

I recommend mods if you want to mix some things up. Since it was another playthrough, I used the mod that gives you the maximum backpack space from the get go. (No way I want to pay for each new pack all over again!)

Dragon Age: Origins still worth playing on PC?
Yes

Don't forget to grab MODS from the Nexus
.DAO-Modmanager
.Dragon Age Redesigned <- Requires a bit of readup
.Improved Atmosphere <- Requires extensive readup (but worth the changes)
.Lock Bash <- Makes the game so much more friendly (yes, not able to open chests near the ending of some area -> pisses you off)
.Madd Gift Guide <- Mandatory
.Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialog Fixpack
.Combat Tweaks
.Advanced Tactics <- So much more customization (you can almost set tactics and forget about controlling any characters, including your own)
.etc

I would also recommend the respec mod...forget its name. So if you want to mess around with a build or rebalance one.

Also the party storage chest at your camp and one I think it's called The Magic Box. It's a box at your party camp where you place your lower level armor, save, load the game again, and the armor is then upgraded to a higher tier closer to your current level.

Honestly? No, it's been a long time since I played it, but I remember that it was a pretty dull game. I thought it had pretty bad writing and characters. IMO, I didn't really find any one in the game to be likeable. I had no motivation to really want to save anyone in the game. But, the popular consensus does seem to be that people do like it and if you are going to play it - you might as well do it on the PC and mod the game.

I abandoned it ages ago and fired it up again the other day.

I was immediately annihilated. (probably by the same fight that made me quit in the first place).

If you want to play the combat with a lot of pausing and control every member of your party, I find the system incredibly fiddly. Characters you order to go somewhere will pathfind in the most ridiculous ways if there isn't quite enough of a gap between characters to go there, and overall positioning requires a lot of micromanagement.

I had quite a bit of fun with it, but I didn't get anywhere near the end.
