Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

I mean, we'll probably get some DBS characters in the base roster. But the new arc has DBFZ sequel material written all over it.

Oh, I don't disagree. It's just that I don't think we'll go past Black, as far as Super representation goes, for Base roster.

We start talking DLC packs that has a few of the Pride Troopers, the Trio del Dangers (who would work well as their own 3-man squad) and so forth, and well, of course, I'll be pleased as punch.

The devs havent mentioned any random loot for this game right? RIGHT? Cause I'm 100% gonna get ghost if there's random loot

No loot and no RPG mechanics. Just straight fighting. They emphasized that this is a skill-based game, compared to other Dragonball games.

On Day 1 or DLC? We're not sure if ASW was told about the current arc ahead of time. Hell, it took Dimps until recently to fully tap into the Future Trunks arc (they likely didn't know about SSR when Xenoverse 2 was in development).

I'm assuming DLC.

They knew U7 team last year. But I don't think they knew of anybody from other universes until this year.

I think caulifla has high chances as DLC down the line.

If they make ex versions ( Goku => FnF Blue Goku, Trunks => Super Trunks etc... ) with different costumes and intros, maybe Kale could be a DLC Ex Broly.

Probably Jiren. i doubt anybody else from this arc would make it in.

Besides roshi Tien 17.

Thank God! I skipped DBXenoverse 2 cause DBZX1 was so bad. So havent had my DBZ itch scratched in quite awhile

hopefully it'll bring back the feeling I had from the classic DBZ fighters then those were great (pre-xenoverse rng loot fests)

Will preorder this baby no question then

Either way, it's nice to see ASW pull some moves from Super for the characters.

I mean that's what I want to think, but it doesn't seem like "pulling moves from Super" if it's actually just using something from things that already existed before Super used them.

But we don't really know for sure if ASW had intel that far ahead, & the roster was likely finalized a while ago. As such, I'm not expecting anything beyond the Future Trunks arc on Day 1.

I would be pretty shocked if Arc didn't know what was going to happen now in DBS when the game isn't even due out until roughly March.

That would mean ~6 months ago they didn't know what was going to happen in DBS ~9 months before release? I refuse to believe that. It would be a huge mistake on the part of Toei, Bandai, Toriyama or whoever would handle that stuff.

The only way I could see them not knowing is if Toriyama simply hadn't planned that far ahead (which would be strange).

Also, how far ahead is the manga?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the manga is actually behind the anime.

The manga is behind at this point. It's monthly as opposed to the weekly anime. Toei (anime producers) and Toyataro (the artist/writer for the manga) have been given rough outlines of the arcs so far, so main story beats are consistent while minor details can be wildly different.

However when you think about ArcSys development timeline, production probably started sometime last year when the Zamasu arc was in full swing and the current arc was farther off and likely not fully planned out yet. If we get anything from super I'd expect content up to the Zamasu arc. The ToP arc was probably too far off in the planning stages. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we got one character from the current arc in the base roster. DLC is a little more likely for that imo

It's funny how we rarely see team battles in Dragon Ball, but now we have the current DBS arc that feels like it was made for this game.

I'm crazy for wanting Basil (the wolf from universe 9) to be playable in fighterZ? i think his attacks and kicks are pretty unique.

Not at all. I at least want Bergamo, if somehow the entire Trio couldn't be in the game, someday.

I believe Xenoverse is gonna have more DLC packs so those 3 are a lock there for sure.

However, I don't think minor fighters from this Super Arc will have a slot in this game. Only major faces like Hit or Jiren.

Also, yes we want Jiren.

It is also his dash attack in J-Stars, the origin of that move must be way before super.

(My personal gripe with these comparisons, is that nearly all fighting games based on Japanese IPs have been doing this for the last 10 years. Kinda sad that no one noticed until DBFZ became a thing. )

Yeah I think it's kind of being overblown how remarkable it is. but can't be mad at the enthusiasm it's generating.

Any new videos from AX?

For base? Certainly, I definitely agree with that point. In fact, I highly doubt we'll get anything past Black for DBF's roster upon release.

But by the time DLC/expansions are a thing? Hell yeah, I think the floodgates should be opened up. Toppo, Jiren, the Trio, the magical girls, the U6 Saiyans, a few more GoDs like Gin, Liquor and Iwne? I'd be wanting them to go all out with getting caught with Super and the new chars it's introducing, as much as possible.

Why?

Has he even shown what he can do? I doubt it'll be any cooler than what Hit was capable of.

I'd prefer that they cherry-pick a few characters from each Super arc. 1 or 2. No need to have characters who aren't even as interesting as Guldo taking up DLC character slots.

Aliens are fucking cool, Alienous.

I agree that Jaco should be on the roster, but what does that have to do with Jiren?

He's the main new antagonist. He's shit right now but by next year I guess things would be different.

Anyway I think Roshi 17 and Tien might get better chances with this arc lasting so long.

Also, his design sucks. Jiren is basically a cliché Roswell alien with a muscular build. At least, Hit is interesting.

Tien and 17 deserves a spot for their unique techniques and cool anime moments. Roshi ? Joke character. This game deserve better than joke characters.
Unless it's the Dragon Ball one, with the Full Power Kamehameha.

I was hungover yesterday and I spent nearly the entire day re-reading Dragon Ball (up to Freiza) and although Yamcha is kind of a garbage character I think he could be really fun in this game. They should make one of his supers Sokidan and allow him to control like how Kum Haehyun can control his fireballs. He should also be able to stick it underground and hide its location so your opponent won't know where it'll pop out at.

I can imagine some Marvel-esque shenanigans where Yamcha can summon the Sokidan, stick it underground, and then DHC out to his teammate where you can continue controlling the Sokidan despite playing as a different character. It would last like 10 seconds or a number of hits before dissipating.

I wish Gohan used Masenko more. I always loved the dynamic between him and Piccolo and using the Masenko was a big sign of that.

Gohan should have mixed that and the Kamehameha together to make like...the Kamehamasenko or something

Anyways maybe it'll be an added move or something.
Masenko > Kamehameha for Gohan. Hopefully Adult Gohan has it. Otherwise we would have to wait for Kid Gohan in a sequel or something.

I don't understand, how is the Super version a joke character ?

Plus you know perfectly well they would use anything the character has done from DB to Z and maybe Super.

So that means the drunken style, the after image, the paralysis beam and the full power kamehameha :D . Not a joke character !

Funny thing is that Tenshinhan has been a joke character these past weeks lol.

It's the same character...

Yes and no. Same character is a big word. Gohan is technically the same character in the Saiyan Saga and the Cell Saga. Yet.. well we know the difference.

Because... he is ? As of right now, he only exist as the "Must...resist...young...ladies..." guy.

What is this nonsense?

Roshi is the fucking same as ever move wise.

Also for the last part: please watch the show.

Roshi has been essentially frozen in time since Dragon Ball, though. It's all one continuous character, without any breaks. He hasn't aged perceivably, unlike Gohan and Goku. Like Yamcha and Tien (to a lesser extent) he is mostly his Dragon Ball representation.

I mostly agree with you putting him in the 'joke character' category, but even that shouldn't disqualify him from inclusion. Be it the 'True' Kamehameha, his 'Super Human' form, hypnosis, his cane, the Mafuba, he could make for an interesting character.

Funny thing is that Tenshinhan has been a joke character these past weeks lol.

The recruitment episodes that should have hyped him up only made him look useless, but so far in the tournament itself, he's doing decently enough (
only one to sense the two hidden fighters in the beginning and his Taiyoken worked in this week's team attack, it was everyone else's attack that failed instead.
).

Roshi deserves a place for sure. Especially in a game that claims to cater to fans of every era of the DB timeline.
He'd probably get his fair share of weird and funny moves in the mix but funny character != joke character imo.
