Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

This is a thing i don't understand well. It's too early for Caulifla because she supposedly doesn't have enough unique moves, but then the alternative is to instead make up a whole new moveset for Bulma-in-a-mech?

How does that work? Seems so unlikely to me. Would be pretty cool though.

Honestly, that would be my same argument point too and why I'd throw Bulma in the dumpster fire with the rest of the "Most likely not going to happen" choices. Main reason being is that for what little that we've seen of Caulifla and Kale, you know what they've done that Bulma hasn't done?

Throw a punch.

And I'm not talking in the comedic "clock someone over the head" punch, but an actual punch as if to defend herself (or at least from what I can recall with my lack of Dragon Ball knowledge). Even without my DB knowledge, if we really needed a "mech suit" in Dragon Ball FighterZ, I would think that Pilaf would have a better chance of getting in than Bulma since we did see them with an actual mech (three mechs merged into one in the pic below, but you get the idea).

Videl hasnt done anything in Super that they could pull from did she?

Unless if being a mother or holding hands to turn Goku into a God counts, I can't really say there's much...

As to other female fighters, maybe Towa has a minuscule chance. That character has gotten a lot more push than i'd have expected for such a random villain. I'd give her about a 0.1% chance to make it in DLC pack #4 but you know, there's always a chance lol

Bulma in a mech is a bad idea.

Bulma with a slapstick based moveset, specials involving things like running people over with cars, that is a good idea.

About female characters...

Bulma is such an important and beloved character in this franchise that I'd be totally fine with the devs making something up for her. She deserves it. Give us a mech!

Also really hoping for Videl, preferably short-haired (fits a fighter imo). Really endearing character that could use some love after being neutered in modern Dragon Ball. Let's see some fire in her heart again!

Those are the only female characters I think are particularly important to include. There's no need for Kale if we're getting Broly, and chances are we're getting Broly. Caulifla doesn't seem to have much moveset potential. I would honestly prefer Mai over the both of them. She represents both Super and OG Dragon Ball, she's a weapons-based character, and she could incorporate Pilaf and Shu as assists. And she's not another bloody Saiyan, either.

Launch, Zangya, Towa, and Vados are a little too insignificant imo. Am I forgetting anyone else of note?

people clamoring for bulma, but i wonder if they'll throw us a curveball and have future mai with the heavy artillery

I could see that happen actually. Give Mai more of "tactical" moveset where her resistance against Black could easily serve as her support. Bonus points if you actually have a call back to the aforementioned Pilaf Gang Mech.

Let's see...

- Bulma (easy to make into a character, she can have gadgets, a mech suits, guns, whatever, easy and she'd be semi-comedy as well)
- Chi-Chi (would be interesting to see how she'd play but I'd prefer it to be complete martial arts World Tournament Chi-Chi, unfortunately I doubt she's in the running)
- Videl or Great Saiyaman 2/Saiyagirl/Saiyawoman (she's got a higher chance than Chi-Chi I feel and given her character it's easy to bring in Saiyaman to help her out, I'd say she'd be a nice fun character)

Those are the only 3 I see in the running for a woman right now. All the others gonna miss out. I say Bulma and Videl have a higher chance than Chi-Chi. I put one of those 2 on my list so whoever makes it doesn't matter to me.

This a million times over!

I picture her working like Phoenix Wright from UMvC3; however, instead of looking for evidence, should would be pulling capsules. It would be brilliant.

I dunno why some people act like Saiyans are this inherently uninteresting thing that nobody wants, especially when characters like Gotenks exists :P

Even weirder when you want Videl in, who would be even more bland tbh

Popped out a quarter saiyan kid that can fly already that is being largely raised by her Godfather Piccolo. I doubt she'd be turning cartwheels and firing out saiyan babies as she goes by though.

Videl's only skill is flight. Other than that she's Mr. Satan levels of martial arts. Good for a non Ki master but entirely insignificant in a ki fighter battle.

I wouldn't say Towa is insignificant at all. Depending on the game and arc, she's pretty much either the main big bad or one of the main antagonists of Dragonball Online, Heroes and Xenoverse.

We already know this game has an original story, too, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if Arc wanted to use her for their own game. Even if this game has the "wrong" Trunks for her to antagonize.

Had this thought in the Goku Blue trailer thread.

At what point is there too many Gokus?

Can't really count Goku Black, although I'd love to see Kid Goku with Nimbus, and I'd be down for SSJ4 Goku.

We're not even counting Fusions at this point, we may have Gogeta, or Vegetto.

So, how many Gokus is too many? xD

Yeah, I think Towa has a decent chance to fill the role of this game's main villain.

Goku, mandatory SSB Goku that was never not going to happen, Kid Goku for DB representation, and if we must, SSJ4 Goku for GT representation. Regular SS Goku obviously has access to his Super Saiyan form, w/ his ultimate being SSJ3, so we're good there. SSB Goku has Kaio-ken, so we're good there. Kid Goku stands out through his Power Pole, Flying Nimbus, Tail, Giant Ape transformation, we're good there.

SSJ4 has (not counting his Kamehameha)... Dragon Fist, maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting. Honestly GT fans need to help me out with this one.

So yea, we'd be good with four Gokus maximum if we absolutely had to, with SSJ4 being the most obvious outlier imo

I would have loved normal Black Haired Goku with Kaio-Ken and spirit bomb, but SSB Goku takes care of the kaio-ken part.

Although I wish Spirit Bomb was in here somewhere.

Kale was Broly with Boobs for like an Episode. She's her own thing right now

If I were making this game the character would be "Kale and Caulifla" together with Kale being in her control form. Like 18 & 17

The Super is the Christmas Blast they shoot together

Kid Goku is way too unique to pass up, so if we get another Goku I'll be really bummed if it isn't him. Could sorta be like Platinum the Trinity, use the Kinto Un to float, use the Nyoibo like a pogo stick and a variety of other things. Obviously the way he killed King Piccolo would be his Level 3, and he'd have to have Jankenpon super. Also him having a counter like Platinum for in Chronophantasma would be neat as well. Lots of things you could do with him. Even use the Nyoibo for set ups similar to how Litchi does in Blazblue. He could even have Sin-esque moves and have a calorie meter that requires him to eat just like Sin does haha.

I actually think Towa has a decent chance of being the game's final boss. It's definitely not gonna be Beerus, anyway. Doubt he'll have anything to do with whatever the clones are in the story mode.

Besides Goku Black, Kid Goku is definitely another Goku I wouldn't mind in. Lots of fun stuff they can do with the character.

Kid Goku's run animation better be that goofy arms up run he does while he is training outside from episode 2 of Dragon Ball:

(Also I'm upset this was the best gif of it I could find)

Man, Kid Goku would be the greatest character ever. The good thing is that A LOT of people seem to be asking for him. So even if he wasn't in their initial plans, I think it's safe to say he's a lock for either DLC or a sequel.

Towa and Mira already were in Dragonball Fusions, where there was no Time Patrol Trunks. Although, they weren't the main enemies there - in fact, the player even helps them at times.

New vid from max shows gameplay with devs: https://youtu.be/MlyOkr8F8fE

Yeah, i think the problem with damage we've been seeing is a bad combo path scaling issue.

In that video, towards the end Goku keeps AAing Cell's dash-in with a counterhit 2H launcher (which apparently has standard upper invuln).

He does CH Launcher > Dash attack > Hard Down and it takes almost as much damage as a typical combo does.

I think the most likely explanation so far is that light starters and probably Dash attacks have really bad starter proration

Even Dragon Rush starters seem to have REALLY shit damage scaling on them. It's hard to tell if that's by design, or because nobody is really using team attacks or assists in combos without dropping them immediately afterwards

The way Blazblue works at least...the move that you start the combo with makes all the difference in the world when it comes to how much damage you can actually get off of it. Light starters usually wont even break 2.8k without spending meter.

As far as supers go though, the recent patch just seems to have draaaaaastically nerfed the minimum damage that super attacks do for some reason

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most of the main villians in ArcSys fighters female? Towa would fit the trend, so I'd be down for her popping up.

Yes, Blazblue is pretty mixed, but Guilty Gear has pretty much always had a woman as the final boss(things get more complicated in the newer games' story modes, but it still works out).

I have no idea who is working on the story though, but if it's Bandai Namco then that would probably just increase Towa's chances, haha.

How does Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon work? The teleport off it would be nice for neutral/set-ups, but it would suck if you always had to commit with the super.

Yeah, it seems like light attacks, dragon rush and super dash are shit starters, but I wonder if they mess with the hitstun proration as well.

I think early supers -> vanish might be the way to go, but thats just speculation. I do kinda hope that the combo system favors shorter damaging combos, but it's whatever.

I agree. Super Dash and light seems to scale very hard but not as hard as dragon rush.

Super into Vanish seems viable and also 2C seems to be a damaging starter to counter super dash.

Very true. It was funny that Towa got on Kid Trunks for things his TP counterpart did, in that game!

Either way, it wouldn't take much to say her evil magic and time travelling shenanigans was the root cause for why so many evil Android copies of the heroes are bodying everyone. Gero could have some serious help!

Here's a shitty off screen footage video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYG0UVaXjfQ

You can see the Piccolo player does pretty short jump cancel combos that do about as much damage as what we've seen of typical longer launcher combos. No timestamp in particular since he goes for them every time.

They're Instant Air Dashes but that is interesting thanks for linking.

EDIT: I just realized how frustrated people are gonna be with IAD's...

Wow, how did I miss this? Holy cow it seems that having a sweep move is going to lead into some neat stuff.

Now seeing this, I wonder if something like w/Trunks 2M, 5M jump cancel jS Flip move could lead into something.

Also in the same vid it seems like heavy attacks have the same properties as super dash going through ki projectiles.
