toyotaro is pretty cool. I'd like to see him write an arc or two.

there's no reason why toriyama HAS to be involved with dragon ball, forever. I think people get the idea that non-toriyama dragon ball gives us stuff like GT, therefore non toriyama dragon ball = BAD. which is ridiculous. bad writers = bad dragon ball.

eventually Stan Lee had to stop writing Spider-Man comics. there's some shit after his run but also some great stuff. no reason the same can't happen with dragon ball.

Ugh please no.

The great stuff about manga is that eventually it ends. I feel that manga companies are slowly pushing for a model more like american comics, with the eternalizing of stuff like Naruto, which is receiving a Boruto manga, which is neither written nor drawn by Kishimoto, the infinite amount of fairy tail spin offs that they keep trying to push, and some series that get periodic revivals (mazinger z for example).

Of course DBS is also an example of this, but Toriyama's involvement has prevented some of the moost egregious tone changes. Altho it predates DBS itself, the idea of making Beerus a more "traditional" god of destruction smacks of the american situation where the best artists the most they can aspire to is to be let to play with the big toys of marvel and dc, and their own stuff goes largely ignored.

I think you have to meet a power requirement to even unlock the transformation. Vegeta was clearly too weak to transform at the time. Vegeta literally crapped his pants when Gohan turned SSJ1 for Christ sakes.

Reminder that the Toyotaro manga is where Goku says that Gohan was a "little piece of shit" (or whatever the translation was) when Goku was told Gohan was at a conference; meanwhile, Anime DBS Goku just reacts way more relaxed when Gohan tells him he can't go to the Beerus/Champa tourney, which is much more in line with how Goku treated Gohan during the Buu arc.

I know that we all love to laugh about how Goku is a terrible father, but in canon he is actually p understanding of Gohan.

Hopefully Universe 7/6 swap happens and earth goes into a state of emergency of some kind.

Would love for Piccolo to take Krillin Tien and Yamcha into the woods and bring them back to a functional level of strength. 18 and 17 becoming relevant again would be awesome. I guess Videl's done what with being chichi 2.0 now.

Looks like shit and definitely not the best unless you are only talking about Super. Go back and watch Goku vs Cell the last 2 episode of it (179 and 180), 183, the kid buu fights, and Goku vs Vegeta.

Definitely watch the Goku vs Jackie Chun and Goku vs Tien battles in Dragon Ball. Those are hands down the best fights in terms of choreography.

Fights in DBS are straight up mediocre in comparison to those.

lolwut

Finally all the jobber scrubs from the other universe are out of the way. The gall of Champa to bring in a non SS Saiyan into a tournament... AYY LMAO!

The final boss looks god damn strong though. Vegeta about to get worked and jobbed out for the Goku to finally come in and win all according to Keikaku.

Yeah but no.

They can't be producing a weekly show with no manga counterpart to base it on, without a clear idea where things are headed.

They tried with GT and that was a disaster.

Again, the bolded is wrong. GT was bad because the wrong people were in charge of it, not because they can't produce a weekly show with no manga counterpart.

You could... you know... plan things out in advance? Like every other cartoon on earth?

And I'm not saying DROP TORIYAMA but the day will come when Toriyama is no longer involved with the series, and we're going to HAVE to move on. Dragon Ball will continue to exist without Toriyama.

True, but you can get this idea out of your head when it comes to Dragon Ball. It will never end. It's too huge to end.

God I hope oda ends one piece in a way that this can't happen.

The best choreographed fight is clearly the early Goku vs Vegeta during the saiyan saga (I've got no love for SSJ2 Goku vs Majin Vegeta. It looks pretty, but it is mostly both of them going at it like brutes).

The saiyan saga is a much more three dimensional fight, starting with Vegeta standing on a high rock looking down on Goku, and all the way through until Goku finally gets pwned.

And of course the greatest moment is that kaiohken powered kick that always gets posted

GOD it's sooo gooood in how it shows these guys are fighting by flying around at incredible speeds they themselves cannot keep up.

Please not Future Trunks again. Create original characters, use Gohan, Piccolo and the Earthlings. Bringing Future Trunks would be just they assuming that they can't write something nice anymore, let's just go full fanfic mode.

I really couldn't be impressed with last episode fight, I mean even freakin Medabots had better fight choreography and animation. (Although the art is much simpler, this helps a lot)

Not saying you're wrong, but...

I've never understood this line of thinking. Do marketers really believe that kids identify with kid characters (or that they can't identify with older characters)?

Do they seriously believe that kids watch Dragon Ball for Trunks and Goten's antics (which are few and far between anyway)? Er, growing up, we all liked Dragon Ball for the light-hearted adventure (DB) and/or the awesome fights (DB/DBZ), not for the kids being kids, right?

Heck, kids hate being kids. All you ever hear them say is how they wanna be adults. Their whole existences and growth are built on using parents, older siblings or other older people as conscious or unconscious role models.

If a kid likes a kid character, it has nothing to do with the character being a kid. They just like the character cause he's cool/does cool stuff/makes them laugh. Besides, the protagonist in Dragon Ball is already a kid in an adult's body.

Dude, characters like Ben 10 and almost every action oriented cartoon produced in the last 10 or 15 years contradicts all of your theory.

Everyone thinks it will be Future Trunks making a return but I don't really know...That seems a bit boring. I'm thinking maybe it will be Future Gohan when he was badass and had one arm and trained Trunks. Especially since current Gohan is whipped, maybe his future self will show up and knock some sense into him and take over training for Piccolo lol.

You're out of your damn mind if you think the SSJ Cabba fight looks like shit.

Toriyama will probably ignore all the video game stuff if it is Future Trunks.
Wonder how Dimps would react.

Having a higher standard does not make me crazy, especially when the older series have better quality fights by a longshot.

That was a bad translation. He just says " -_- that guy!"

I really don't want Beerus or Whis to be beaten or even surpassed. We need final bosses that can't be beat. That opponent that is simply better then you and will always remain better.

The best thing about Super was introducing us to Beerus/Whis/Champ and Vados. They are the best characters Toriyama has ever written. They play off the cast and each other so damn well. Beerus especially when one moment he's joking around and the next Goku and Vegeta are running for their lives from him or Champa and his ego issues.

The manga scanlations are terrible on so many levels. Do not rely on them even for the gist of a statement.

Goku is very blunt with his points. There's not much to read into him saying anything about Gohan's talent or efforts, either in the anime or the manga. He's not making a personal judgement call there. He's just telling it like it is, because he's Goku, and the fight is the important thing. Furthermore, Toyotaro using dialog to move things along is ALSO something that shouldn't be read into much.

The whole scene/setup is pretty different. To me it makes more sense that Goku might be more shocked and upset when hearing the news that Gohan wouldn't be showing up in the manga.

The anime had Gohan directly talking to Goku, eager to go fight, but then realizing he had commitments to uphold.

Toriyama please.

You can see how they got the idea for GT here. "If Goku is getting old and Gohan didn't work out as the main character, then surely the only solution is to turn Goku into a kid. It's not like we have other characters in the new generation or anything."

Makes me wonder if they'll try and incorporate Time Patrol for real.

They should take ideas from that MMO and incorporate it into Super. The Time Patrol doesn't conflict with anything in the manga or current series, and would be simple enough to explain why Trunks is involved with them.

Xenoverse 2 tie in cash grab incoming bruh.

I highly doubt anything in Super will actually tie directly into Xenoverse. If it does that'd be cool and very unexpected of Toriyama, but I just don't see it happening.
What I see being more likely is that Future Trunks shows up in Super and Xenoverse 2 has to explain that while both the Super Future Trunks and Time Patrol Future Trunks are Future Trunks they are different from time travel splitting shenanigans.

Time Patrol Trunks was actually invented by Toriyama, that came up with his back story for dragon ball online, he said it was fitting to have Trunks as a time agent, and the story of Xenoverse was submitted to and approved by him too, so if he brings him back, he knows what Trunks is up to.

Do you think if Future Trunks really is returning as the speculation suggests, do you think they'll use the SDBs to wish back everyone who died in his timeline?

If that was Toriyama's idea, I wouldn't mind seeing it in Super. I still think bringing back Future Trunks would feel like cheap fan service, but if they can find a good way to do it, then go for it.

I did this out of curiosity (Not the whole picture, just color editing)

White hair actually meshes really well with Vegeta's current outfit, I wonder if Toriyama had designed this outfit when he was going to use White hair.
