The biggest problem I have with this theory is that why would Black Goku be the main personality? Outside of the Kais, all fusions have been a blend of both fusion personalities, like Vegito being an even mix of Vegeta and Goku, and Gotenks being about an even mix of Goten and Trunks, although some would argue that Trunks' personality seems to be stronger. Black Goku merging with any good version of himself should make him less evil.

Exactly, a fusion doesnt make any sense... I think its not a potara but rather something different...maybe it can fuse a soul with a dead body (thats why he looks like Goku but isnt...

Came here to make that correction. The posted I quoted made a typo. At the same time, it isn't too far off since autumn starts late September, so the poster was about two months off. At the latest, Toriyama has been working on this storyline since November.
Anyway Goku Black's outfit seems kinda...plain?
I will admit, I wanted something a little more fashioner, but since Black Goku is basically an evil Goku as far as we know, him having a simple outfit fits Goku's personality. It is also different enough to show this Goku is different since this is the first time we have seen Goku wearing long sleeves.
Someone on kanzenshuu said it best, Goku took Darth Maul's outfit.

The colors were a little too over saturated and the shading was harsh when it didn't need to be. Compare Goku's color's to my avatar, in that new shot his GI is duller and his skin looks more natural.

I'm going to throw a random guess out there, so we know Super has had a troubled production and a recent rumor from a reliable source said Toriyama was about to leave the show because he was upset about the quality and then they pitched the idea of a Future Trunks arc to him to try and keep him on. So if he started writing it in Autumn that pretty much lines up with when Super's quality was at its lowest and I'm going to guess they brought in some extra people to do preproduction on the new arc as soon as Toriyama handed in the script, which helps explain why the next episode looks so good and why it's easily the most polished art we've seen from Tate on the show.

It's a softer tone closer to what it was in DBZ and the shading is a lot softer as well making him look a lot easier on the eyes.

I read the post you're referring to. The poster in question seemed to put in their on opinion about Toriyama leaving and was brought back with Future Trunks because they used the word 'surely', not this is what happened.
Also, as an art major, the different is color is most likely an artistic choice, not them correcting something.

Anime have color pallets that are used to keep consistency, that's why you can go through any episode and the colors will match (excluding changes to color made for lighting), but taking the old colors and putting them next to the colors used for Goku and Vegeta show that the pallet has been altered. It has nothing to do with correcting anything, it's just that they changed the pallet. When I said fixed I didn't literally mean the old color pallet was wrong, just that it wasn't as pleasing as it could be.
Anyways, when Kagari is here I think I'll post the new OT.
Toriyama was very vocal about his disappointment with the DBS animation, so I guess they placated him by upping the animation budget.
Where the idea for bringing back Future Trunks originated is pure speculation, but it'd be not the first time Toei has an idea, Toriyama goes "you are doing it all wrong" and he rewrites the whole thing into something of better quality (ofc we can't really compare, but the original BoG treatment sounded way more grim).

Toriyama said he wrote this arc based on a suggestion from the editorial office. Of course we don't know exactly what that suggestion was, but I think the safest bet is probably "Fans love Future Trunks, you should bring him back!" But you are right, it is speculation because we literally have no idea what the suggestion contained or how detailed it was.

Actually, we don't know what Toriyama was disappointed about. In the 30th Anniversary Book, he only said that he complained about the quality of Super and the insider more or less said the same thing. Fans just assumed it's the animation since that is what most people complained about. Could be the general rush production, Toei not being complete true to his vision, ect. We can only guess.
And it isn't like Super Saiyan 2 is worth anything. Super Saiyan 2 was obsolete by the Buu Saga, and Super Saiyan 3 can't even touch base form Goku and Vegeta. Goten and Trunks going Super Saiyan 2 is only good for taking down Mooks.

I know Super is the Goku show so this probably wont happen but I hope Trunks finally gets to be the hero and put away the lead villain. You gotta feel for Future Trunks too. He is the only DBZ hero that deals with actual loss of friends, loved ones, and just the general population. He can't just wish people back to life all the time. If they do kill Future Bulma she's gone period. It just would be great if Trunks could be the one in the end after all he's been through to get some redemption. Like when Trunks goes back and kills 17 & 18, that fight animation wise isn't that great but I loved it just because Trunks was finally got revenge for everything they did.
That's just me though.
