In retrospect the Black saga was such a waste of potential.
It was cool while it was running, but looking back into it now really shows how fumbled it was.

Yeah, which is also coincidentally similar to Super Buu's stint on gradually breaking the dimension with Vegito's bout and unfortunately never gets expanded on.

Would almost argue that Cell and Buu saga fumbled too, mostly in that it kept changing the 'big villain', and swapping in and out characters.
But I do agree that Goku/Vegeta repeatedly going back and fourth between time wasn't a great idea.
Although it's obviously because it was due to being rushed, I did like it ending on Zamasu just sort of becoming Giygas and very quickly screwing everything. It plays towards the idea of Shonen heroes gaining power from will. Zamasu genuinely saw himself as a hero. And when being defeated by the "villainous" Trunks, he wasn't going to back down — he'd triumph no matter what. With such insane mania and determination, that'd cause him to transform in what Gowasu claims to be 'justice' itself.
It's a very eery deconstruction on willpower, which I loved, despite it all being an ass pull.

I liked that Zamasu became Giygas, but I didn't like that it was all pointless in the end.
And it was marred with so many seriously stupid Goku moments to get to that point that it really sours everything else to me.
- He could have ended everything in the past, but he disregarded completely Trunks' warning that Black becomes stronger with each fight. (This one is *partially* understandable due to Saiyan bullshit, it's still really stupid.)
- Forgetting the Senzu.
- Forgetting the Mafuuba Jar inside the Time Machine. (Scratch that, why would anyone ever carry something like that in the open instead of in a capsule? Roshi had the right idea.)
- Forgetting the goddamn seal for the Mafuuba in the past.
Goddamn it Goku.

I like many moments of the arc, and I like Black as a villain.
Overall I'm lukewarm on Zamasu, but I do like the ningen stuff that spawned from him.

The Future Trunks arc certainly had issues and could have used another pass on the script, but I still think it was pretty good.
The scythe was heavily underused, but I understand that it existed solely the fill time to allow more production time for episode 66, so it doesn't bother me too much. Would have been nice if Merged Zamasu could have used it or something though.
My main issue with the arc is that nobody really made any comments about Turnks' Ikari form. We get one little comment from Shin saying that Trunks' power is rising or something like that when he transforms against Merged Zamasu and that's it. There should have been a comment from Black or Zamasu with them questioning how he could stand up to the power of a god and SOME mention of how the aura looked like a mix of Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue. I don't need lots of answers or anything, just comments form people in universe.
It certainly feels like there was better planning in all aspects of the show for this arc, and it's really nice to know that the scripts aren't rushed for this arc. That doesn't mean Toei's outline for the arc wasn't rushed in any way, but at the very least the scripts themselves are being written in a normal amount of time.

What do you guys think about people calling Goku and Vegeta "gods"? A lot of people call them that because they are "as strong as gods", which technically they've been a lot stronger than characters classified as "gods" since Z. Then I'll see people call them gods because they use god ki. Another one is I'll see people say that Goku was a god only after he did the ritual when he was in SSG form.
Dragonball works on a celestial bureaucracy, a little like Shenism. I don't think Goku's a real god until he gets a fucking job. And, like Shin, gets pushed up until he becomes completely useless thanks to the Peter principle.

Elements could carry over. But it had weird things, like Vegeta being still under Freezer orders (was he really?) but still able to go Super Saiyan.

One thing that bothered me about the Future Trunks are was that Trunks never mentioned gathering the Super Dragonballs to just wish everyone back. Like WTF!!!. You just find out that there is a much more powerful set of Dragonballs that can literally do anything, yet he continues to drawn in his sorrows.
Zamasu and Goku Black said they destroyed them after making their wishes. Super Dragonballs are gone in that timeline.

Someone asked Toshio this question on twitter like a week or two ago and he said that 17 is waiting to be picked up.
Buu turned him into candy and ate him, and now 17 won't be able to fight until Buu wakes up. Now they'll need to free Nappa as a fighter.
Makes sense, Goku never told him where to go, and he probably has no clue where Bulma's is.

Dragon Ball has never been a passion project. It was made by Toriyama to get into you wallet. He freely admitted to this.
Super Saiyan 3 while cool is still just a power-up. The same with Ultimate Gohan. There is nothing really unquie about except Gohan doesn't go blond.

And then since we're doing such a good job of turning this diverse team into a nothing but Saiyan team, Goten and Trunks will replace 18 and Piccolo.
Future Trunks will replace Tien.
I didn't see Trunks nor Vegeta telling Goku to hurry or jumping in to kill Black. Goku also didn't think Black would be sucked into the future in the middle of the battle.

How was that Goku's fault. Roshi could have put it in a capsule himsel for Goku but didn't. And he didn't forget it. He thought Vegeta grabbed it since Goku rushed of of the Time Machine to look for Trunks.
Roshi never gave Goku the seal even when Goku talked to him for several minutes. So Roshi also forgot.
Seriously, most of these points aren't all Goku's fault, but he's still blame for everything.
The the last two epsoides felt rushed to me. Other than that, the Future Trunks Saga had great pacing in my opinion. So far, this arc has dragged with the recruitment and the space poachers halted the story for a week.
I don't think leaving the Mafuba jar in the time machine was that stupid. Black and Zamasu showed no interest in destroying the time machine before, and Goku doesn't want to hold onto the jar while fighting. But really Vegeta should have took on Black right away, while Goku used the mafuba on Zamasu.
Not a bright moment, but I wouldn't put that with forgetting the sensu beans/ forgetting the seal.

What if the getting Freeza is a swerve and they actually get Buu or even Jaco?
In filler he was able to take on the Ginyu force, and some people who were in the Grand Kai's tournament, but canon wise I don't think we have a good gauge on his power.
In my heart, I believe Frieza will join Champa's team, and Buu will wake up when Beerus threatens to erase Satan.
Though I've accepted Frieza's the final fighter.

As I said, I can look past the first one because it's par for the course. Everything* (mostly, Zamasu would still be around) could have ended there, but if it did we wouldn't have the rest of the saga.
It was Goku's job to seal Zamasu, not Vegeta, he should have made certain that A) he had everything he needed to do it; and B) have it all on hand before meeting Zamasu/Black.
Roshi shares the blame for forgetting the seal.
(I don't actually blame Goku for not putting the thing in a capsule, I'm just wondering why they did it different this time. Have they ever show what happens if you break a capsule with something inside?)
