Yes, really, despite your stupidly selective quoting.jett said:really
It's unrealistic to expect the game to look like the other RPG's that you prefer. It's made to look cartoonish with Toriyama's style because that's just a staple of the series. It's just annoying to see people complain about the art in every single Dragon Quest thread despite the series having existed for 25 years.Acosta said:So what? One is beautiful, the other not.

I imagine it would be the Wii U version if it gets released outside Japan.Acosta said:It looks terrible. That thing is going to be eaten alive if they release it outside of Japan.

I agree with this; except the 'looking forward to' part. If I can't play it offline then...ghibli99 said:The party character designs still look dull to me, but the monsters look really good (unsurprisingly). Some of those environments are intriguing, too. I'm looking forward to it.![]()

Wasn't it not long expected that being on the Wii, it would look similar on a technical level with DQ8? Even the on-rails Swords looked about on par. In any case, people need to remember there will be the Wii U version coming if they want to play the game on an HD console.Shiggy said:Nobody's complaining about the art, we are talking about the technical execution, which does look bad. It actually reminds me of those free browser MMOs that pop up these days.
The overworld was, but the moment you step into a dungeon, it's almost nothing but wide empty boring spaces and tight corridors.Ghost_Protocol said:World looks dead, impersonal, and soulless, like most MMOs. DQ VIII's world was lush and rich as hell (I'm playing through it again right now). Not excited![]()
Because Level 5 had such a large impact on how good the last two games were.element said:No Level 5. No buy.
I'll complain about the art. It looks fucking awful and completely incongruous with the environments.Shiggy said:Nobody's complaining about the art, we are talking about the technical execution, which does look bad. It actually reminds me of those free browser MMOs that pop up these days.

WoW that I posted is not PC exclusive? News to me.Acosta said:(this time a PC exclusive, eh alex?)
Acosta said:Lol? Are you for real? Dragon Quest has no brand power outside Japan. Do you really believe it has a chance competing in the MMO space, with no PC version and against Guild Wars 2, WoW and the army of F2P MMO available?
I'll answer that for you: hahaha. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't localize it.
Alextended said:Lol @ the shot comparison. Best DQVII screen you could find vs the most plain DQX pic available? How objective of you.

If you're going to make incongruous comparisons of screenschots like that, I have nothing else to say.Acosta said:I disagree, style doesn't cover blandness, it´s a technical problem. This looks worse than DQ7. This looks even worse than some of the 2D DQ, because they were made at the peak of the technical capabilities, while this is a compromise fest, trying to do something that is unfitting for the hardware they are using.
They could have make something beautiful with the Wii hardware, but making it a MMO limits it a lot in terms of memory and visual fidelity:
So let's get this straight:

Well, that's like, your opinion. There's nothing to argue about that.eXistor said:That screen also looks better than any of the DQX shots.
Well, that's like your opinion too. I like the art styles of both, and it's more or less the same art used in every DQ anyway, with minor differences like having or not having ink outlines. If you don't, too bad, but I'd guess you can't expect to like any DQ ever.Concept17 said:WoW has exceptional art style. This DQ online game does not.
I never said it doesn't, it's a great looking game, why does one have to be ugly for the other to look good too? I was just showing that having one screenshot with plenty trees vs one with barely any, and with such different composition, from atop a hill to a great view, vs one at ground level looking at nothing much, doesn't mean anything whatsoever as both games have been shown to have very varied locations. Also, this is an MMORPG, and there are no random battles, that holds back how far they can push any specific element too, since you can potentially have many players and many enemies on screen, it has to be able to handle that whether it happens or not.Shiggy said:That screen looks quite good, it even has a proper shadow.

The overworld screenshots here though don't show the monsters on the field yet, but were shown in the trailers.
