Dragon Quest Heroes gameplay compares PS4 and PS3 versions

Your are now the sole reputable source on the Internet concerning Musou sales :p

PS4 versions looks notably better. Looks like Omega Force put quite some effort in the PS4 port.

Zhuge has always been a great source of well researched info in general. Hes done up some great posts in the past, which is why I remember his name lol.

Yup, that would be me haha

Very cool and great work with those posts!

While its a Western developed title, initially GTA V the PS4 version had a slight lead over the PS3 one, though am unsure what the numbers are like now. This was going off the early media create sales numbers.
You're comparing a budget rerelease of the PS3 game to the PS4 game.
The original PS3 game came out in 2013 and sold 730k.

Wow, that's a lot to live up to :P

Thanks for the kind words. I'm the biggest fan of Koei Tecmo (unofficially haha) so I always love following everything the company is doing, whether that be games, sales numbers, financials etc...

In regards to DQH, this will certainly be a better seller on the PS3 by far, but the PS4 version will be the best selling PS4 game for a while. At least based on my predictions.

The PS4 version is obviously the superior version and it looks like Koei have put a lot of effort into this. One thing Koei are very good at themselves is tailoring games to certain platforms. For example they are one of the best devs at porting to Vita from PS3/PS4 (and vice versa) and still maintaining a high level of quality.

But anyway, here are lifetime sales in Japan for the FIRST musou game in each series. Obviously other games in the series may have sold better as with Dynasty Warriors but usually the first game in a new musou series such as One Piece of FOTNS is the highest selling. So we can see how well DQH will do vs the rest.

New IP Musou - sales in Japan for first game
340k - Dynasty Warriors 2 (PS2) (DW4 sales exceeded 1.2m)
1060k - Samurai Warriors (PS2/XBX)
670k - Warriors Orochi (PS2/360) excl PSP/PC
700k - Dynasty Warriors Gundam (PS3/PS2/360)
660k - Fist of the North Star (PS3/360)
70k - Warriors Legends of Troy (PS3)
860k - One Piece Pirate Warriors (PS3)
130k - Hyrule Warriors (WiiU)

Dragon Quest Heroes (PS3/PS4)

I'd be disappointed if DQH didn't at least exceed games like WO, DWG & FOTNS.

Good point there was wondering what the fuck the budget release was. Had totally forgotten that they released the PS3 version before hand here. Thanks for that update with the numbers!

I generally dont pay attention to the localized western titles in Japan.

This was what I wanted to see before deciding. Although the PS3 version looks more than playable I think I'll wait a bit and buy it when/if I get a PS4 later this year.

Honestly, the PS3 version looks good. The PS4 version doesn't look like a massive upgrade.

Yeah I feel the same way. I'm not sure if I'm going to import it right away, I might wait for the price to go down cause I'm not really into Musou games, but the PS3 version seems fine to get.

you might be waiting a long while since unless the game performs poorly a price drop is not likely.

Are you familiar at all with the Japanese game market? Every game comes out at an insanely high price and then drops like a stone really quickly. I could wait 6 months and get it at 4000 yen no problem.

if you buy it used maybe.

only games that perform poorly sales wise are the ones that drop in price as retailers want to get rid of stock or before a sequel to said title comes out.

Anyone care to translate? I love the serious tone the characters are speaking in. Someone translate pls :D

If anyone does translate, the male character's name is "Act" and the female is "Mer", and the blue slime is named "Homiron".

I saw someone wanted this translated earlier, too, so I guess I can give it a shot. It doesn't contain all that much information though. I'm sure someone else can translate it better, but here goes:

Act: This can't be. Have all the monsters gone mad?

Mer: What?! Then what about Homiron? (Homiron as well?)

Homiron: *confused noises*

Mer; Homiron! I'm relieved. (S)he seems to be ok.

Act: But look! Even the castle's being overrun by monsters. This isn't good.

Listen carefully. I'll move to the back of the castle and stealthily check the condition of the inside before heading back. And while I do that, you...

Mer: Is this another one of your usual longwinded plans? I'm sorry, but I'll pass! We're the king's bodyguards, aren't we? We have to go save King Dirk, and fast!

Act: Hey! (Don't go running off like that.*) Even though you know you can't do this alone...

*This isn't spoken. It's more of a contextual annotation on my part.

It's not just the frame rate but the colours look much more vibrant.

Can't wait for thisssss.

I think it got do with the lighting.

At the above comparison pic, you see area and char exposed to sunlight appear more "vivid" on the PS4 version.

Edit: And the tower at the background is lacking details, as well as windows on left wall, in the PS3 version.

This looks fun. Cool fan service. Sure looks like a Musou game to me, though I'll admit I only have a passing familiarity with that sub genre. I'd be interested in this if it comes Westward.

Barf, this game has the worst timing for me. I like Dragon Quest more than Zelda, but since I've already put so much time into Hyrule Warriors, it's going to be another three or so years before I will be able to stomach another game of its genre.

To be fair, the RPG elements make this compelling and it doesn't look like a straight Musou game.

With Dragon Quest Heroes due out for PlayStation 4 and PS3 this Thursday, February 26 in Japan, Sony and Square Enix have kicked off a creative new promotional campaign in Shinjuku today.

The “100,000 Slimes Battle in Shinjuku” campaign invites commuters at the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station’s Metro Promenade to help defeat 100,000 Slimes, which are printed on a giant poster overlayed with bubble wrap. To “defeat” a Slime, passerbys simply need to pop its bubble.

Dragon quest heroes for ps3 and ps4 respectively has been number 1 and number 2 on Japanese amazon for about a week and a half straight.

I think this is gonna sell decently. Will it sell PS4's is the question

Looks even better then Hyrule Warriors, which was the best Omega Force musou to date.

Hope we get it!

I know nothing about Dragon Quest games, but I've decided to grab it day one to check it out. Kind of excited!
