The only thing that's "Super light" is the wallet of somebody who downloads this and ends up playing (and paying, and paying...) for a long while.

Between this and the DQ 1-8 announcements, it's looking increasingly likely that the next main-line DQ game is going to be made for smartphones. If that's the case, I hope they plan to localize it eventually.

Putting the "Super Light" subtitle aside, I wonder if Dragon Quest Monsters will be anything like Dragon Warrior Monsters...

It'll probably be exactly like Dragon Warrior monsters 1 and 2. Although it was more pokemon based "gotta catch them all" tupe game outta the norm DQ game, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I expect SE will cater to the young kids on the Mobile platforms and wouldn'f surprise me if they charge extra for new monsters in the game

This isn't a huge move -- there was already a Dragon Quest Monsters smartphone game for Japanese Smartphones. Was released a few years back, and had a "Kid Zoma" mascot type character.

The great thing about Square devaluing all of their franchises by going mobile-exclusive and micro-transaction heavy is that nobody will pay a premium for anything they release on a console going forward. They'll just wait for the super-cheap iPad version because that's where anything they invest time in will inevitably wind up.

Can't wait for Bravely Default on iOS.

It's DQ Monsters. They aren't going to give up selling 2-3 million copies of a $40 3DS game in Japan. They could probably port it over to iOS/Android after though.

A so-called f2p dq game cost you more than 40 dollars. And no DQ port/remake sold 2-3 million on any platform including 3ds. It's always a little over 1 million.

This is absurd thinking honestly, games like KH3 and FF15 cannot be run on mobile for another 3-5 years, they will sell to the audience that wants the spectacle of a high end square title. The difference here is, old lead platforms for rpg titles such as dragon quest titles, like nintendo ones (3ds/ds/gba/etc) are SIGNIFICANTLY weaker then 100 dollar mobile devices that billions of people have in their pockets already (android has surpassed 1 billion devices by itself, proof here: http://bgr.com/2013/09/03/google-android-1-billion-activations/), so there is no real loss to anyone but nintendo themselves once they go mobile. So yes, going forward, handheld gaming is going to take a huge hit, but it wont effect consoles. Not yet, anyway.

Shake to win the RPG?
