Dragon Quest Swords New Trailer

It's basically Horii and Manabu Yamana (DQ V/VI director of Genius Sorority) heading things up. Genius Sorority is doing the planning/scenario with Horii and 8ing is doing the grunt programming work. Designs from Toriyama, music from Sugiyama and Manami Matsumae (Megaman, Street Fighter II).
Thanks.

What was the reaction and user interest from the crowds? Compared to the other playable stuff?

the lines were just as long for this as everything else was. I watched a couple of people play (no way was I going to stand in a two hour line). It seemed like people liked it.

I haven't played DQVIII, so it's so cool to see enemies from early dragon warrior games rendered in 3D, like drakees, slimes, slime warriors, babbles. It was pretty neat :D

Now that the naysayers have been silenced, including the Nintendfans, is it ok to take bets on how well this will sell? We always need some sort of unrealistic expectation thing going here to give ethelred some headaches.

I say 1M lifetime in Japan and move 100K Wii that week.

The title should do 200k ltd at the very least in Japan with minimal effects to Wii's sold since the hardware would probably still be sold out by then

Very good looking, some enemies were really intimidating in the trailer, hopefully it translates into some good challenge.

I wonder about the fire tower, looks like a spoiler if you ask me...if thats the last place you visit and they are showing it, I wonder how long is the game (looks like 10-20h).

The two scenes that stood out most to me were the gryphon battle, and the last shot of them standing in the parted sea staring at the tower.

Good trailer, and the game appears to be shaping up nicely.

I really like the way blocking with your shield seems to be the source of a lot of the complexity. If the game was just a slasher, it would basically be House of the Dead, but having to intelligently block attacks as they come in (especially that flamethrower attack you see) is awesome.

Production values look great as well, which is always good since I thought DQM:Joker looked a tad B-grade.

after seeing this, Im pretty sure the Wii has a hit on its hands. The opportunity to act out battles in a Dragonquest game has to be making waves in Japan.

Wow, that trailer looks ace. I have to admit I haven't really been paying much attention to this game, but this could actually be fun. Swordfighting, directional blocking, spellcasting - it could work. It won't make me run out and buy a Wii, but since I'm planning on getting one eventually, I might pick this up as well.

I'm less wary about the on-rails part as others might be. If it means more focused design and less emphasis on grind and repetition, I'm all for it. I'm going through Panzer Dragoon Orta right now and that game kicks major butt - the on-rails is a *strength* of that game.

In any case, it sounds like the core gameplay could already work. What will make or break this game lies in the core game/level/balancing design.

I took a second look around to comment on the visuals. It definately has nice lighting, and the character designs are great.

"Next-Gen" enough for me. Wish we could see CC, though.

This is looking really good. I have a a feeling this game is only going to do "ok" with the critical reviews but is going to be loved by fans (i.e. like Excite Truck).

Oh, it'll do well no matter what in Japan. It's Dragon Quest, after all.

America is iffy.

DQ Yangus is the lowest scoring DQ game I can remember with Famitsu and it got a 35/40. Although I can't find a score for Rocket Slime, so that may have scored slightly lower. DQS will score well unless it's a total piece of shit.

Ok, Kohler's impressions sold me on thizs game when he compared the combat with Punch-Out!! Well, not quitelly, but my interested's raised dramatically.

Tiny tip: Famitsu scores mean nothing.

Anyways, saw the trailer and it looks pretty good. Will be interesting to hear impressions of the final game.

True. People even see that Lair And Warhawk aren't the ugliest looking games of this gen.

They're sort of tied with Forza 2 and Halo 3. This is of course without factoring Wii games into the equation.

:P

I find Lair technically impressive, but it lacks any real art. Sort of like EverQuest II was when it released.
