Dragon Quest XI Will Be Full Of Twists, Surprises And Homages, No Plans For DLC

The PS4 version should be on its way to our house shortly. 3DS version probably would have been preferable for the hubs (he'll be the one playing it since I don't know Japanese), but we don't have a Japanese 3DS, so the choice was made for us. It'll be fun watching him play it on the big screen, though. Can't wait.

There are no plans for DLC. Everything is complete as a standalone title.

I know its nitpicky, but what about the three item codes I'm getting from the two guides and pre-ordering the game? I would say that download item codes, or early access to good items is a form of DLC.

Edit: The codes for the Vest of Happyness and Neuveau Rich Vest are actually limited to first-run copies; so basically a "day one" code in the package.

Tomorrow...tomorrow.

Preorder countdown is almost over.
I'll be playing in 2D mode when I'll need to make the choice. I can't not do it.

PS4 version will be for the western releases.

JP PS4 version for me! Aside from VIII and X, I've played through every dorakue in 2/2.5D and I'm ready to move onto a proper modern comfy couch console experience with XI. Last console version I played was VII wayyyy back on the PSX... 17 fucking years ago.
I am old.

I'm probably going to triple dip.

3DS JP - play in 3D
3DS USA - play in 2D
PS4 USA

Although I'm still not sure if I wanna play the import in 3D or 2D.

No DLC sounds good by me.

No DQ VC would be good to. Limited time stuff that ya can miss out on and not get any other way sucked in IX (and apparently VII & VIII 3DS)!

It's interesting to hear that there are version-exclusive parts apparently outside of the casino games and StreetPass stuff. I wonder how extensive that will be. I still can't decide which version to play first.

Not for me. I don't have money to get one version let alone two.

(On the appearance of Erdrick) It doesn’t mean that those who never played a Dragon Quest game won’t be able to enjoy it. Dragon Quest XI can be enjoyed 100% without any knowledge of past titles. On the other hand, they hope people can find interest in the series after playing Dragon Quest XI.

Wha? Did I read that correctly?

Horii already explained that DQXI will have some connection with the first trilogy.

Plus, the main continent is called "Rotozetasia".

What limited time stuff is permanently missable in IX, VII and VIII 3DS? I know there's a couple of tiny medals and maybe equipment that's forever missable in VII but that's insignificant since you can get all the tiny medal rewards by missing some and you get better equipment later on.

Pretty sure they were talking about the downloadable content there. You can't get it for Dragon Quest IX anymore due to the shut-down of the service, while the content you could download for VII was changing on a weekly (or biweekly?) basis. In Dragon Quest VIII they made it available via Spotpass, so it should still work, right?

Oh right. Though in the case of IX, this is hardly Dragon Quest's fault since Nintendo shut down their own Wi-Fi service way too early. Besides, using action replay you can get all of the online quests of IX back as they are in the game card, so it's not like you cannot get them "any other way."

VII I think already cycled through all of its content and now everything is readily available (someone correct me on that if I'm wrong). VIII has content available via spotpass yes, but it also seems to be a weekly thing that will end in September. I assume that's the point where they would have cycled through all of the content, and everything will become available after that.

I call bollocks on the 'no DLC' plan.
The 3DS version at least is full of placeholder music files (like, 40-50 of them, each just empty).

(so for example music tracks B01, B02, etc up to B19, but the B08, B16, B17 are just a 12 kB empty file. Same with other ones).
They couldn't have ran out of cart space as well, as the game in just slightly over 2.5 GB.
