Its 2 months after on the demo for PS3. Stinks, but I guess Microsoft ponied up the most $$$ or whatever.

Still, Dragons Dogma looks and runs better on PS3, from what I saw of the demo. Dat tearing on 360.

I would like some advice fellow GAFers. I'm torn about getting this game or not since its' announcement, I've played the demo about 5 times, it was ...okay I guess, but it didn't really show the game, just some limited combat. Wanting to decide base on reviews, but end up torn as well with all these mixed reviews.

Now here are something about my likes and dislikes:

+ I love monster hunter, played the series for quite a long time. But I don't practically enjoy grinding for materials to make gears. I enjoy the aspect of playing with friends, watching them fail and mess around, trying out different weapons and tactics against the many different monsters.

+Loves Skyrim's story, open world and random events. I almost never walk the same path from point A to point B in Skyrim. Finding new routes, exploration is a fun thing to do for me. The numerous different random side quests are very cool too to make the world more vibrant and alive. I also love story driven games.

- I don't enjoy grinding that much, especially if it's necessary to progress on the game. That means the same type of monster over and over and over again, while going through the same dungeon/ plains/ map over and over and over again.

- I don't enjoy major death penalties and crappy save system, such as dying will return you back to where you were at 3 hours ago since you haven't save for that long. it just means "don't try new ways of dealing with the situation unless you have saved" to me.

So far, the reviews are giving off signs with things I actually hate I pointed out above, and with no co-op with friends, I just don't know. I do like large open world and day-night cycle that encourages exploration, and large numbers of different monsters to fight.

Wait what? I thought that the side by side showed that the 360, though it did have screen tearing, had more shadows, more foliage, and higher FPS. I can get it on either but the side by side swayed me to the 360. Is there a new side by side.

Tearing on 360, consistently bad framerate on PS3. Denser foliage and better shadowing on 360. Resident Evil demo a month or two earlier on 360, and apparently some DLC coming to 360 a month earlier.

Yeah, now's the time to get this settled. Which version is better? I wonder if DF will do a comparison.

I think they did one of the demo, so I bet they do one for the final.

Confirmations of on-disc DLC, map size etc.

Not "recent" but not old by any stretch. Both made me hesitate for a moment and then all that had to happen was another video and I was sold again on the game.

Yeah, I had my reservations about it after all that, but I'm still going for it day 1. I feel al the positives of the game will outweigh the negatives by a large margin for me. Still, I am keeping my expectations in check this time to avoid disappointment.

No argument there. My version is going to be ps3 :(

Same. Getting the PS3 version. It sucks we gotta wait another two months for the RE6 demo (which I'm actually really looking forward to). But I'm hoping I can play the 360 demo to hold me over if my friend gets DD on 360.

I'm getting it for the ps3, so having to wait 2 months for the RE6 demo pisses me off.

I'm kind of pissed, too. Not cancel-my-pre-order pissed, but pissed nonetheless. Especially since I don't have any alternatives other than the PS3.

I'll probably get dragons dogma day 1, but that demo Bs made me decide to get Resident Evil 6 off craigslist when it drops, they don't need my sale so the used market will benefit.

The demo stuff doesn't bother me at all. I already know I'm getting RE6 and have no intention of playing the demo anyway. Of course I still think it's shitty to make PS3 owners wait two months for the demo. Timed exclusive crap sucks.

What do Monster Hunter fans think of this one then? Does it scratch a similar itch despite the differences? Is there an OT?

If that's a normal-sized giraffe, the man is not small...

It's a baby giraffe.

As a PS3-owning Bethesda fan, this sort of thing doesn't surprise or anger me anymore. It's just the nature of the industry. These timed periods of exclusivity are seldom ever applied to things I care about, anyway.

I don't think anyone can offer more perspective than the reviews already posted, honestly. I expect the game to be grindy on some level and I get the impression that death can come out of nowhere if you aren't prepared, especially at night. I expect the world to be large and vibrant, but not in the way of Skyrim. I think we'll see more stuff going on per area than we did in Skyrim. Tough call. You might want to consider a rental at some point. Everything I've heard about the same so far has only increased my enthusiasm for it - stuff like on-disc DLC is easy to ignore.

I'm a huge MH fan (currently playing Tri to tide me over) and I think DD scratches a little bit of that itch. There are some similarities to MH that are pretty apparent to me - some monster designs and animations, knockback animations, cutting off certain parts of monsters, etc. Dresden should be making the OT.

Gotcha. I couldn't figure out how 1 thing made something look worse than all those other things combined. But I guess low FPS makes me a bit sick to my stomach anyway so its possible tearing causes strokes or something in others:) Both are detractors. Hopefully the demo build was as old as they said and the tearing is gone in the 360 version or lessened. It would raise it even more in my decision making on what system to get.

As for the timed demo's doesn't bother me. I am used to having entire games NEVER available on a system I own. So a couple months is far better than the alternative and to me its a good differentiator at times.

It's more fluid and dynamic than MH, but MH is practically an action game in comparison when you factor in DD's vocation abilities, leveling, and world persistence (traveling, kinds of quests--DD doesn't feel as "instanced" as MH's hub/quest structure though there still may be similarities with Gran Soren). I mainly play MH alone, too, so having efficient pawns while solo feels very strange; they're much more useful than Felynes/Cha-Cha.

DD seems like a hybrid of the Souls series' (and Team ICO's) trademark "realistic" physicality and Monster Hunter's killing/resource scavenging applied to what's pretty much an open world RPG, with a dash of Shadow of the Colossus grabbing, Elder Scrolls mojo, and a couple other Capcom influences sprinkled in for good measure.

As a fan of varying degrees to all of those for different reasons, this will be the game I go to for its combat. I maintain that SotC's combat mechanics were perfunctory for the kind of atmospheric puzzle/platforming game that it was and that the Elder Scrolls series has never been notable for its combat, either. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls typically have excellent encounter and level design but fall apart almost every time a boss is involved, while Monster Hunter is the complete opposite. There are also some echoes of Devil May Cry (stinger, hello), Sengoku Basara (look at Kasuga and Tsuruhime), and Resident Evil (nighttime zombie stuff) in DD, as well.

Whatever the case, I can't freaking wait.
