To those of you bashing McCartney's solo output, are you actually familiar with it? Or do you just know goofy songs like "We All Stand Together" (intended for children) and "Silly Love Songs" (intentionally poking fun at his reputation)? Because Ram, Band on the Run, Chaos in Creation in the Backyard... they [and many more of his albums] are legitimately brilliant.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbOWIC9hGU "Back Seat of My Car" is a Brian Wilson-esque masterpiece.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEvLQVsSR2I "Monkberry Moon Delight" features some truly insane rock vocals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwH0or-RnEc "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" is a fantastic piano-driven closer to BOTR.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dtjxUMWdM "Jenny Wren" is simply a beautiful ballad in the style of Blackbird.
I could go on for hours, really. People write him off based on a couple of silly songs, which is really a shame. He's one of the greatest living songwriters, and I'd take his solo material over John's any day (Plastic Ono Band and Imagine are good, Double Fantasy is decent, but the rest are pretty awful).
edit: And I'm not going to stick around in here to defend Paul, because it always just seems like a waste of time and I end up coming across as a lunatic. If you're willing to give his music a chance, though, shoot me a PM and I'll tell you what to check out.
