Drinking alone and watching a movie?

I prefer watching movies by myself. I hate when people add their detracting commentary. Also I make the best homemade popcorn!!!

You should check out some rifftrax and learn how commentary is done!

And I made homemade popcorn tonight for myself too! Even put some butter and salt on it! (I norm don't as I like it plain!)

Edit, also sorry GAF for so many drunk threads lately! Realized I only have exgfs numbers and study buddies numbers so I figure this is a better outlet

I won't get drunk and watch a movie alone but I'll have a beer or two.

Someone brought up games so I will too. I rarely game alone anymore. It's mostly SC2 or other games w/ friends online. So we'll drink while we play if we're all in on a Friday or Saturday night.

I actually think its better to get drunk alone. Watching a movie alone and drunk makes the experience that much better.

On Halloween I ordered a pizza, drank a bottle of wine, and watched horror movies all night. Not something I do often but sometimes it's fun to just relax and enjoy a movie without having to deal with others.

I went for a second viewing of Skyfall yesterday and I did so alone and with a beer, there was only a couple more people there cause I chose a screening when most people would be working

feels good man

in the house? all the time

Hah, I didn't realize this wasn't the norm. I'll go out every once and a while but my shift ends right when last call hits. I'll normally come home, Drink an Old English and watch a movie, or read Wikipedia.

I got really fucked up one Saturday night watching college football when all of my friends were working.

I felt a little ashamed at how fucked up I managed to get by myself the next morning

There's drinking alone and then there's getting drunk alone.

I don't see where there is any harm or stigma in having a couple of beers or drinks while watching a movie or whatever at home. For a while I was doing "vodka and vodka" where I'd make chicken pasta w/ vodka sauce and I'd end up doing a few shots in the process, to the point where I was buzzed by the time the food was ready. Made it taste even better.

But if you're regularly getting shitfaced to the point of trashing your living room and vomiting all over the place (re: Max Payne 3) then yeah, that's bad news.

I do this all the time. Like others said, I don't like to get drunk alone (or at all really) but I don't mind an alcohol buzz if I know I'm not leaving for the night.

Never understood why people get so hung up on 'drinking' alone. I know people who don't even like to keep any significant amount of alcohol in their house for this reason.

Having a drink and drinking are two different things, if you follow. Having a drink by yourself is normal, and often relaxing. Drinking by yourself has a certain connotation that implies a problem.

Drinking alone is the best way to drink. After a long week of dealing with work and family, it's nice to tune everything out, have a nice stiff drink, and reflect on your life.

I don't drink alcohol, but if I'm alone for the night, I have no problems just sitting in front of the TV and falling asleep to a good comfort movie.

I enjoy doing this a lot. Especially since my friends tend to joke during movies which pisses me.
Its been a long time since I last did this, but I'm doing it tonight. Watching Rashomon.

i wish i had cool drugs cause getting drunk doesn't really enhance the watching of a new movie.. you cant really focus

its better when rewatching an old favorite

i usually rewatch episodes of the office

If I'm drinking alone, I don't like watching movies. I'd usually either game or listen to music. Or both.

However, I love watching movies alone, either sober or stoned as fuck. Enhances the experience tenfold.

Stay at home and watch movies and drink by myself often. Partly because I have a baby son that keeps me at home a lot more and also I don't have many friends where I live right now. I'm completely comfortable with this situation though. I do want to Skype/drink with a friend back home but time zones kind of kill that idea unless one of us is willing to stay up pretty late. :/

Yup. I watched tons of movies with friends during university years because we lived close together, but even then there were some genres most of my friends are just not interested in (for example the classic Yakuza movies from the 60s/70s, samurai movies, cheesy, outdated Hollywood scifi from the 60s/70s) so every now and then I'd enjoy 1-2 of those with a bottle of wine. Still do but with a greater variety of movies since I have less time to meet and catch up, there's less movie-watching with friends going on.

I can tell from experience that watching a movie while on shrooms/truffles or MDMA really doesn't work. You simply don't have the attention span for it. Smoking weed though and watching something with an intense cocktail of music, visuals and emotion can be an amazing, intense experience. With the right kind of weed, I become super-absorbed with complete focus start to finish, for the movie.

I have absolutely no issues drinking when out/with friends (it's gone too far, to be honest), but I have a seriously hard time getting myself to drink when I'm all alone. I don't think I've ever even had a beer by myself. I can imagine it being relaxing, but I have yet to pass even the first 'barrier', so to say.

i enjoy an after work beer or glass of red every other day or so. since i live alone, i mostly drink those alone. it's a treat - not because of the alcohol (one glass'o'red/beer doesn't do anything to me), but because it's tasty.

Yet sometimes i do get drunk alone: when playing a new video game (i pick 'em up when i have the next day off). recently i emptied a bottle of red on the night i started AC3 and when i'll pick up Black Ops 2 i'll also make sure to bring home a couple of beers.

Change 'drinking alone with a movie occasionally' to 'every day'... And the movie is optional, really!

the combination of a good bottle of craft beer or two or six, a nice buzz, and a good movie is one of the finest pleasures in life. enjoying it alone honestly enhances it half the time. sometimes you need to get away from the noise of other people and just get yourself into that awesome zone for a while.

Watched the Empire Strikes Back tonight while drinking. Am I the only one that tried to use the force as a kid? I tried with all my might. It didn't work.

And are At-At Walkers the worst idea for a war vehicle of all time? I think so.

The stigma related to consuming alcohol alone needs to disappear or die in a fire. The social pressures that question it are ridiculous. Do I drink alone? For sure. Am I an alcoholic? I would certainly think not. I don't wake up and consider a beer for breakfast, nor do I feel the need to consume alcohol in a social setting to feel comfortable about myself.

I drink to enjoy the taste and to enjoy the essence of calm and relaxation that alcohol brings with it. Watching or playing entertainment while drinking alcohol only enhances the experience. I don't understand how it can subtract.

Pointing out that one common social stigma is completely illogical, while in the same paragraph embracing another, related stigma that also has no logical basis?

Enjoying a beer in the morning does not an alcoholic make. People used to feed beer, especially milk stout, to their children for its nutritional benefit. Beer has such a low alcohol content anyway.
