Driveclub delayed, PSN+ replacement is Contrast

This really shouldn't be all that surprising. Launch lineups have always been predictably bad and we've survived. Xbone will have some launch titles delayed I'm sure. This is why you hang on to a current gen console so you don't even notice you have nothing to play on the new one.

I'm honestly surprised that Sony didn't push them for the release and told them patch it afterwards.

Then again, a launch game with lots of bugs or glitches might reflect negatively on the PS4

I'm willing to bet at least one of the Xbone launch games could use some more time in the oven as well, but won't get it.

I'm just as confused. Since its reveal, few people have given any shits about DriveClub. In most threads about launch, it rarely gets mentioned as a game people want.

Now, it's a deal breaker?

Console wars matey , when else would a game like Drive club get a 80 page thread (in less than a day) about a then rumoured delay.

I am very glad I didn't preorder a PS4 like I almost did. The launch lineup was already disappointing before, but it's downright awful now. Driveclub didn't look great, but the free edition, as barebones and shitty as it probably would have been, had me excited. As did Watch Dogs.

With all of these delays, I can't help but think Sony did some majorly shady shit in the background and lied about game releases to get people "hyped" for PS4 launch.

Nintendo also delayed many Wii U games, so i guess they are also doing some shady shit?

Or is this Sony exclusive?

I believe that the most affected consumers are those who are very hyped and anticipating the launch of the PS4, will get it day one, but, can only manage to buy one or two games.

Driveclub was the perfect PS+ fit for a launch console in my opinion. I was thinking about buying one FPS game for multiplayer purposes while playing some SP and MP from Driveclub. 2 Genres, two different play styles that would give me many hours of entertainment, that would be great since the Economy in here is so harsh that you need to think wisely.

However I understand this. It's a shame because not all consumers have the chance to buy, let's say the PS4 and more 4-5 games on launch but either way I hope the game to become better by the chance it drops on the PS+

Not many people buy lots of games at launch.

Let's say they want Killzone, but nothing else, other than however many free games it has, but they want InFamous in February, and they want The Witness, and MGS:GZs, and pretty soon Destiny is coming, then it'll be The Order, etc.

The 'core' know to buy a console for the upcoming software, not just day one, even if the day one line up doesn't meet their cravings completely.

This sucks for people who only wanted a PS4 to play WatchDogs and DriveClub, and don't care about anything else, but I would be surprised if even a single person meets that description.

Yeah. But I mean, three of the four games you mentioned will be on Xbox One. So, I'm saying... I don't see how it's head-and-shoulders above the Xbox One like I'm apparently supposed to (based on the other responses). The one exclusive I was looking forward to most was deep down. (But once I saw the announcement of it becoming Free-to-Play, I lost interest. Just not that into micro-transactions.) So, of course, I'm looking beyond launch. I may have done a poor job articulating that, but I was thinking of the very long-term outlook while using launch as a sort of small sample size, I suppose.

Way to miss the fucking point, man. It's not about DriveClub. You think I'm worried, because of DriveClub? I wasn't interested in that game. My point is, I'm finding that less and less about the PS4 is actually for me. I happen to feel that PS4 is making a name for itself less by being "PlayStation" and more by being "Not Xbox One." Maybe I should have just said that from the beginning.

That's probably from the echo chamber created by rabid fanboys on NeoGAF, there's definitely an anti-MS tone on the boards (mostly deserved IMO). I still see most of the creativity and willingness to take chances that has come to define the Playstation brand in launch and post-launch titles, a delay or two doesn't change that.

The PS4 launch line up looks less enticing for certain. But the optimist in me thinks that this particualr delay is for the better, as Driveclub needed more polish...

Whatever ... more time in the oven. Hope they can hit the 60fps target. I have KZ:Shadowfall, Ass Creed 4, and potentially Knack to hold me over.

I remember buying the 360 at launch and just playing COD2, Gun, NFS Most Wanted and Quake 4. 2 of those being multiplatform with older gens and Quake 4 wasn't exactly a memorable game.

why would you play nfs and not the day1 fantastic PGR3? this is all sorts of wrong!
and cod2, it was fuckin' fantastic, trumped EVERYTHING at that time. its not like you present it. (just a good ol' multiplat until x happens)

plus, at launch you had AMPED, you had KAMEO, you had Condemned, and even PDZ was miles better than GUN....

I thought that the PS+ demo situation would have allowed them to put some sort of content out at all costs at launch to save face. Disappointing, even though I'm not into racing games very much.

With all the talk of the PS4 being so much easier to work on I was hoping we wouldn't be seeing delays like this but I guess it's common practice in the gaming industry to not meet deadlines. Oh well, I didn't plan on getting any new console until at least 2014 anyways because of reasons like this.

Perhaps Microsoft/Crytek should also delay Ryse.

It could simply be two things: They want the framerate to be 60 and they want weather to be in the game at release. PS4 preorders are already beyond supply so any people who cancel are going to be replaced immediately with someone in the queue.

Makes no sense to delay the game for those reasons since most people wouldn't care either way, and most of those who would have already accepted that the game would likely run at 30 fps with weather added at a later point.

I'm fine with this, would prefer a polished game than a bug riddled travesty. As people have said, there are other games out there to be playing. I personally can't wait to get some KZ going.

I'm willing to bet at least one of the Xbone launch games could use some more time in the oven as well, but won't get it.

Well they do have one of their bigger releases actually shipping with a fair amount of it's content missing. But I'm guessing the issue with DriveClub wasn't the cars/tracks but rather the game itself.

The laughable part are the one's who say this game makes the launch lineup look weak and now it's a wash. I don't think I've had so many games to play ever at any launch with the stuff I'm buying and getting free thanks to the cross buy program and PS+.

That being said, I definitely still want to play this so I hope it's a January or March release since Infamous is February.

The concern trolls title is correct just going by the first few pages.

It's way to late for that kind of change in my opinion. The game was designed for 30 fps after all. It's stated for release in early 2014, there is no way it'll get anywhere close to 60 fps in a few short months.

If they weren't gunning for 60fps in the first place I would have believed you.

When did it reach 60?

I may have mixed that up with KZ. They did say they were aiming for 60fps.

Really disappointed tbh, but at least we get a better game with DriveClub. But seriously, Sony, handle your shit. Three games you pushed heavy at every show and event are now delayed, InFamous SS (which I suppose wasn't really delayed), Watchdogs and DriveClub. Makes 2014 a packed year, but launch is looking slim aside from the multiplatform stuff.

Side note, what is Contrast? Lol.

Why the hell are you bringing Nintendo into this? They aren't even the same situations at all.

You know damn well why i picked specifically Nintendo for you.

They promised tons of games this year that they delayed, Pikmin was delayed. Mario Kart and Donkey Kong got pushed to next year.

But of course its different, they do it to make better games and experiences, Sony does it because they are mean and shady?

All companies delay products in all business, all the time. Not because of some crazy agenda you made up

Only 1 of their games was delayed. Sony isn't responsible for Watchdogs or The Crew being delayed.

Guys, Watch Dogs and The Crew are Sony's shady delay lies. Don't believe the lies. Ubisoft is really Sony. Wake up, sheeple.

Those weren't launch games 1 month before the system comes out? Are you missing something? Why are you even bringing these up?

Settle down.

Probably for the better. Much better to delay a game instead of releasing a more unfinished product.

Does the delay of Driveclub and Watch Dogs makes the launch lineup from disappointing to downright awful? Or which other games are delayed?

Sooo... PS4 impossible to program for, confirmed?

Not happy with watch dogs delayed and now this, was looking forward to trying it out. Think I am sticking with my preorder and will sell it on if I can. My order isn't allowed to be amended so will still be getting watch dogs unfortunately as well. Damn, was really hyped about getting a launch day console. Soured me to next gen at the moment.

So it only counts when its launch games? What a convenience you made that up to support your agenda. I am not missing anything, calling you directly out on your narrative here.

Its the exact same thing.

I had an Xbone troll actually bring up the DC delay yesterday on top of responding to some tweets I made months ago. It was like an extreme version of the fans here but at least people here are civil. I quickly ignored him.

This has nothing to do with that if you see all the games being demoed on PS4. Not that there isn't a learning curve to a new console.

If you were really looking beyond launch you'd know that Sony is still supporting the PS3 with new IP's like The Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls and the old guard that is Gran Turismo 6, which you know their respective developers WILL make a game on the PS4 in the future for certain and are of a known quantity.

I don't understand the people that say they're gonna wait a few months or til early next year to buy it. I'm not trying to put anyone down or convince you not to but it just doesn't make sense to me. Are you guys expecting a price drop in the next 6 months? What benefit is there to waiting if there's at least 1 game you may be interested in right now? There's not really anything I want to play right now, but I'm picking up the PS4 so I can play some sports games (FIFA/NBA) with family over the holidays. I don't need to, but I'm going to get one sometime in the next year (for the eventual ND/SSM/TLG games) so I might as well get it now.

Some people are skeptical because of RROD/YLOD last gen. There may be faulty hardware in both consoles and they may be waiting for reviews and others to test the waters first. There's no reason not to wait a few months unless the game they want will release at launch.

So it only counts when its launch games? What a convenience you made that up to support your agenda.

Uh, no it's not the exact same thing. If Driveclub came out in December and was delayed until February, no one would have cared.

It's a game for a console launch that comes out in 1 month for a system a lot of people have already preordered. It's pretty different.

WHAT ? when Drive club was announced 30 fps, a lot of gafers complained about it for not being 60 and the were very vocal...

I feel it hurt Nintendo more. Sony is riding the wave right now and because demand is so strong people will defend whatever happens much more. Sony could announce Killzone: Shadow Fall being delayed too and you will see the same responses how it will make for a better game and how single player could be 60fps. Sony will get much more leeway from fans than both Nintendo and Microsoft for every mis-step they take from here on out.

and I'm willing to bet it's set in ancient Rome.

I seriously think Drive Club would have lost out in the fold

A little more time, a little more space for it to breathe and hey maybe we will still get PS+ edition, maybe a little more sweeter for the delay

Its the same thing, products are delayed. You are talking as if people cannot cancel their PS4 orders and Sony did this on purpose and malice, they can cancel their order or simply return the system back. If i bought a Wii U to play Donkey Kong this year i can return it. Did Nintendo promise these titles to "cheat" me into buying games that they know they will delay? Are they a scummy company? No, neither is Sony.

Products are delayed all the time, you are trying to push the agenda that Sony is somehow mean and evil. Its absolute bullshit and you know it.

Honestly, this contrast game doesn't seem like a good alternative. I mean, its probably a nice game, but really niche. What Sony should have done was give the game, plus a month of plus free rather than the trial week they are including.

As for drive club, if they need the time, they need the time. I don't give a flying fuck about racers, so it doesn't affect me. This just leaves the window open for forza.

WHAT ? when Drive club was announced 30 fps, a lot of gafers complained about it for not being 60 and the were very vocal...

"Most people" in the real word. Not "most people" on Gaf.

30 fps isn't a dealbreaker for a driving game with the mass market. Even if we can make an argument that it should be :)

Can't say I'm not disappointed but I'd rather have the game not have issues due to rushing it out the door.

Don't know much about Contrast yet. Looks like Resogun will have to do for awhile.

It's a good thing they announced those cross-buy games recently. Hopefully those, the PS+ games and F2P DCUO and War Thunder will keep me busy when I'm not playing KZ:SF.

That's fair. I really am. One thing that Microsoft has been talking about is how "future-proof" their console will be. It's something they promised with the Xbox 360, and for the most part, I felt it delivered. Sony hasn't really told me what I need to hear, in that regard. They bring up specs, and hardware is great, but... gaming is going to have to evolve in more ways than just a platform's hardware.

Sony is mean and evil. All corporations are. I have no "agenda" and I'm not sure why you keep making up this scenario.

I was in it for DriveClub, Killzone and WarFrame, but I was looking forward to DriveClub the most. So not exactly your criteria but still applies.
Yes, but my point was unless you exclusively want the console for the launch games, with no consideration of the future, then this is horrible, but you will still get DC, and it'll be better, you just have to wait a few months, but you were buying the system for the long haul anyway, I would imagine.
Yeah. But I mean, three of the four games you mentioned will be on Xbox One. So, I'm saying... I named five games, and two of them are exclusive forever, another one is timed, but that's besides the point.

Virtually no one cares exclusively about launch. You are paying $500 because this is a platform you intend to own and play games on for five years. If you want DriveClub, it's still coming, and no doubt before the PS4 gets a price cut, so you're actually not even going to save money by cancelling and buying one when DC ships.

As sucky as this is, it's logically irrelevant to PS4's market performance.

As for if PS4 or XBO has the better line up, that's for every individual to decide. Personally, MS have nothing I want except Below, which is a timed exclusive. I'm sure at some point they'll announce something I will need to play, probably their rumoured Platinum Games title, but as of right now, PS4 has the only exclusives I care about across the two systems, and it'll have the better versions of everything multiplatform, and it's cheaper. They could delay Killzone, and I wouldn't cancel and preorder an XBO.

Great, I'm more hype now. By the time it launch, PS4 reach every region, with PS+ edition, that community more healthy, everyone will put more spotlight on the game.

Don't care about the delay, but happy with the new PS+ freebie!

Never heard of Contrast, but now I am excited to give it a try.

I probably wouldn't have even wasted hard drive space with the free edition of Drive Club..

Sucks for those who were anticipating DC, but honestly you still have Forza and GT6. From everything I have read, DC wasn't shaping up to be great. Looks to be a typical launch title.
