Driveclub delayed, PSN+ replacement is Contrast

Its the same thing, products are delayed. You are talking as if people cannot cancel their PS4 orders and Sony did this on purpose and malice, they can cancel their order or simply return the system back. If i bought a Wii U to play Donkey Kong this year i can return it. Did Nintendo promise these titles to "cheat" me into buying games that they know they will delay? Are they a scummy company? No, neither is Sony.

Products are delayed all the time, you are trying to push the agenda that Sony is somehow mean and evil. Its absolute bullshit and you know it.

Nah, it's like the thread title talks about with concern trolls. Sony has been riding the wave of good news for months now. A game gets delayed and people want to start acting like Sony just announced that the PS4 itself is getting delayed. Now we have people accusing Sony of lying about launch titles to get people to pre-order it? It's console warz, plain and simple boyo.

Makes no sense to delay the game for those reasons since most people wouldn't care either way, and most of those who would have already accepted that the game would likely run at 30 fps with weather added at a later point.

It does make sense when your competitor is releasing a game that isn't as technically advanced but gets more traction with the press just because it runs at 60fps. It also means they can give it a release date free of racers to compete with. An Infamous: Second Son and Driveclub bundle early next year would cause quite a stir.

Sony is mean and evil. All corporations are. I have no "agenda" and I'm not sure why you keep making up this scenario.

I am very glad I didn't preorder a PS4 like I almost did. The launch lineup was already disappointing before, but it's downright awful now. Driveclub didn't look great, but the free edition, as barebones and shitty as it probably would have been, had me excited. As did Watch Dogs.

With all of these delays, I can't help but think Sony did some majorly shady shit in the background and lied about game releases to get people "hyped" for PS4 launch.

You tried to push this idea, and you got called out on it.

Those weren't launch games 1 month before the system comes out? Are you missing something? Why are you even bringing these up?

Settle down.

Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 were heavily advertised as launch window. Hey, throw in Rayman Legends for the customary Ubisoft tip of the hat, and Nintendo look ever the more shady liars of comtemptiousness.

Interesting to see what on earth is going to happen to Evolution when Drive Club fails to enthuse even after delay. Before comments from Polyphony, I woulda plonked at GT6 PS4 version around Spring 2014 too, so thats another factor.

WHAT ? when Drive club was announced 30 fps, a lot of gafers complained about it for not being 60 and the were very vocal...

People on gaming forums are but a small part of the overall potential audience, let alone people on GAF who are just a subset of that group, people on GAF who complained about 30 fps who are just a subset of that group, and people on GAF who complained about it and wouldn't buy the game because of it who are just a subset of THAT group.

Really disappointed tbh, but at least we get a better game with DriveClub. But seriously, Sony, handle your shit. Three games you pushed heavy at every show and event are now delayed, InFamous SS (which I suppose wasn't really delayed), Watchdogs and DriveClub. Makes 2014 a packed year, but launch is looking slim aside from the multiplatform stuff.

Side note, what is Contrast? Lol.

Oh come on. You can't blame Sony for the Watchdogs delay and InFamous technically isn't delayed. Early 2014 isn't far off anyway, and if you have a PS4, GT6 is just around the corner.

You tried to push this idea, and you got called out on it.

I'm talking about this scenario you made up where I am some Nintendo fanboy out for Sony's head. I understand you're probably a tad upset by the recent delays (understandably so), but come on dude, no need to get so hostile.

The last Sony first party game to get delayed was The Last of Us. The end product of DriveClub will benefit from this delay no doubt.

I'd actually rather have Contrast but it doesn't really matter since I'm not getting one at launch :[

You can still get all the PS4 PS+ games through the web store if you are a PS+ member.

If these delays mean better games then so be it, it's better for me as a consumer. Though certainly disappointing that they won't be out on launch day.

I guess delaying your game is the only way to get people to care about it? This has to be the most active Drive club thread.

XONE - Ryse, DR3, Forza. $500. Pretend third party games don't exists

PS4 - Killzone $400. Pretend third party games don't exists

XONE is clearly the better option at launch.

But MS why don't you announce a kinect-less version of XONE??? :|

Fixed.

The mental gymnastics that people go through around here is pretty incredible.

That's fair. I really am. One thing that Microsoft has been talking about is how "future-proof" their console will be. It's something they promised with the Xbox 360, and for the most part, I felt it delivered. Sony hasn't really told me what I need to hear, in that regard. They bring up specs, and hardware is great, but... gaming is going to have to evolve in more ways than just a platform's hardware.

You are eating up all that PR bullshit. "future proof" "power of the cloud" "moving towards the future". Please elaborate on the examples of their future proofing.

Cool news for Contrast being added. Resogun and Contrast free on day one still have me excited. I know there are games coming that will make me not regret my purchase (Watch Dogs, Galak-Z, Secret Ponchos, The Order, and Infamous, for starters). I might pick up KZ:SF at some point if there's a lull. Otherwise, I always still have my PC/PS3/Vita/3DS and backlog.

Sucks for people that were looking forward to DC.
I personally dislike racing, sports, and fighting games.

Help me, NBA2K14. You're my only hope.

(And maybe NFS Rivals).

Yes, but my point was unless you exclusively want the console for the launch games, with no consideration of the future, then this is horrible, but you will still get DC, and it'll be better, you just have to wait a few months, but you were buying the system for the long haul anyway, I would imagine

Isn't that part of the reason we buy console though? To have new games and a new machine to play with. I'm agreeing with you btw.

I feel like people are judging how viable the platform is going to be just based on those early launch games when on PS4, there is a ton of games hitting constantly via retail and indie. If you add in the free Plus, cross buy stuff, and purchased games I'm looking to have around 10 games at launch. I don't know if this is bad but I'm sure someone can find something negative to note about that.

I don't know what to tell you, I mean they could come out and say they want the PS4 to last at least 10 years, like the PS1, PS2 and PS3 before it, but as they say proof is in the pudding, and Sony have proved for a long time that their console's are future proof.

Absolutely and when they get called out on it, they back off and back peddle.

Not upset at all, read my posts, i dont care about Drive Club, id buy GT, NFS, Forza and Mario Kart over it. My posts are consistent here.

You made a silly claim that Sony was being shady, when presented with Nintendo own delays you attempted to make some sort of loophole to make your accusation of Sony work, it simply does not.

People can cancel their pre order of PS4 right now, they can return it for full refunds. If i bought a Wii U in february expecting to play Donkey Kong this year, then i cannot, and i am not even sure if i can get a refund when DK got delayed. Are Nintendo a scummy and shady company? No

Games get delayed. The person making shit up is you, its pointless.

I understand the point that you're trying to make but I can't help but laugh at the way you made it. Just because TLoU is a good looking game doesn't give any reasoning power to assume anything about DriveClub. The correlation is highly flawed.

Jokes aside I can live with this.

I probably wont play Resogun or Contrast much but I shall give them a go.

Just glad they delayed if it means we get a better game early next year!

I mean we all still get it FREE*

*Free with a subscription, while subscription lasts.

(Driveclub will blow us away upon release)

Games get delayed.

Launch games delayed 1 month before a system comes out is different than a game being delayed a year after a system is released, months before the actual game is released.

Again, you're confusing two completely different situations.

I named five games, and two of them are exclusive forever, another one is timed, but that's besides the point.

Virtually no one cares exclusively about launch. You are paying $500 because this is a platform you intend to own and play games on for five years. If you want DriveClub, it's still coming, and no doubt before the PS4 gets a price cut, so you're actually not even going to save money by cancelling and buying one when DC ships.

As sucky as this is, it's logically irrelevant to PS4's market performance.

As for if PS4 or XBO has the better line up, that's for every individual to decide. Personally, MS have nothing I want except Below, which is a timed exclusive. I'm sure at some point they'll announce something I will need to play, probably their rumoured Platinum Games title, but as of right now, PS4 has the only exclusives I care about across the two systems, and it'll have the better versions of everything multiplatform, and it's cheaper. They could delay Killzone, and I wouldn't cancel and preorder an XBO.

Apologies, I must have missed something. You're right. I agree that it has little-to-no effect on how the PS4 sells. It concerns me, though. As someone who has the console (both consoles) pre-ordered, it concerns me. Do I think it's the end for Sony? No, of course not. And I didn't mean to insinuate anything CLOSE to that. I kind of tried to get my point across in (what ended up being) a passive-aggressive manner of being as delicate as possible and I just dropped the ball on pointing out that I have concerns beyond JUST launch. (There are plenty of things I love about the PS4, too. The indie support is something I'm REALLY excited about!) I'm excited for both consoles, just as I am concerned.

Hope that those concerns are put to rest soon, and I'm sure that they will be.

It does make sense when your competitor is releasing a game that isn't as technically advanced but gets more traction with the press just because it runs at 60fps.

Right, and it has nothing to do with the fact that one is a new entry in a well known franchise respected for its consistently high quality, and another a new IP that the press really hasn't seen much of yet, and thus has very little to go by.

And I won't get into the whole debate about which game is more technically advanced, but it's silly making such claims when they're supported by little more than the fact that only one of those games has dynamic GI, while conveniently ignoring all the unique things that the other game is doing behind the scenes.

If Xbox 360 is to be based on this "future-proof" console, I'm so sorry for you after 5 years because any future of that console will just be full of multiplats.

If we're talking about specs, PS4 is more future proof.

The only saving grace that Xbox One currently has is exclusives and I'm not confident they'll be pushing as much as PS4 will be.

sucks they couldn't make the launch...was/am very interested in this game...im sure they added time will be used wisely...

Luckily, unlike many i don't turn up my nose to the enjoyment that can be had from games like CoD or Battlefield...so my launch is still plenty packed with Killzone, FIFA14, Ghosts, BF4, and GT6 coming less than a month later i'll still be able to survive without my Forza till next year...

- In the long run its for the best...you want the game to be as good as possible...there is a reason we've only seen the game running with a single car on the track up to this point...something was certainly wrong with the game's performance

- While this will certainly hurt the launch, its not going to kill anything...i doubt any significant number of pre-orders are canceled because of this, and the console will still be sold out for the foreseeable future

- GT6 is still going to sell by the butt load on the PS3 so I don't think Sony is in for any kind of financial issues due to the delay

MLB The Show is coming out that thime.

you just made me smile

Can i get a refund for a Wii U i bought in February because Donkey Kong got pushed to next year?

Can i get a refund for a PS4 i pre ordered at any point because Drive Club got delayed?

Neither company is scummy or shady, delays happen all the time. I am not confusing anything, you made a claim that was baseless and now you are trying to make it work, it does not.

I think this generation is strange in that sense.

Personally, I'm not really buying a PS4 because I need the new PS4 only games. I could play The Witness on PC, and MGS:GZ on PS3, etc, I would be fine not moving generation just yet, but ultimately, I don't gain from that. It just means I play a worse version of all the multiplatform games I want to play until I 'upgrade'.

This generation is unique in that sense. Cross-generation releases have made the new consoles less desirable, but more practical, than previously for me. I'm not at all excited about the PS4, but I can't think of any reason not to buy one.
Hope that those concerns are put to rest soon, and I'm sure that they will be.
I think the concerns are unwarranted realistically, not that I think you're at fault to have them.

We have no reason to think the WatchDogs delay was about the PS4 version, on the contrary, it's market positioning was terrible, GTA just raised the bar for the genre obscenely, and Ubi finally realized it was coming at the wrong time.

DriveClub's delay is probably not really about the PS4 either. Motorstorm shipped with serious birth defects, it took months to get even basic features patched in. DriveClub was also coming at a moronic time, against Gran Turismo 6.

It looks bad, but the PS4 isn't at fault with these delays, poor market analysis and rushed software is.

Well there it is. Contrast seems alright, but Driveclub (and racing games in general) are new hardware showpieces and that will be missed from a first party launch lineup. I don't think it's a great trade off personally, but it's not like they're swimming in choices.

Pretty big misstep this late in the launch run up for Sony, not so much because the devs couldn't hit November but because they advertised the shit out of Driveclub PS+ free day one for months and now have to backtrack on it. I would not be surprised if their preorder numbers take a hit, news like this is a friendly reminder that these boxes are coming in piping hot and it may be better just to wait it out if the games aren't there yet.

"Free games?" Why are we lying about this? You're paying $50+ for those games to become "free", and remain free for the duration of your subscription.

The PS4 launch lineup looks more and more depleted by the day. Third-party support weakening .

Could you please explain this?

I am very glad I didn't preorder a PS4 like I almost did. The launch lineup was already disappointing before, but it's downright awful now.

I think this the 'concern trolls' that the thread title is referring to if anyone is confused. Several posts in a thread about an unreleased console you had no interest in due to a lineup you felt was already disappointing.

I understand the point that you're trying to make but I can't help but laugh at the way you made it. Just because TLoU is a good looking game doesn't give any reasoning power to assume anything about DriveClub. The correlation is highly flawed.

Yes, I know you can't compare the two games just like that, but I did anyway ;)

why would you play nfs and not the day1 fantastic PGR3? this is all sorts of wrong!
and cod2, it was fuckin' fantastic, trumped EVERYTHING at that time. its not like you present it. (just a good ol' multiplat until x happens)

plus, at launch you had AMPED, you had KAMEO, you had Condemned, and even PDZ was miles better than GUN....
Comparing PGR3 and Most Wanted just because they loosely fall under the category of "racer" is all sorts of wrong. Most Wanted was a brilliant arcade racer, probably the best in the series.

I never said COD2 wasn't great, but it was one game and was largely it for a while when it came to big AAA games. Kameo is a good example of a game that just faded away quickly as the big titles started coming out for the 360 after launch. It's likely what'll happen to Knack. A decent game that isn't going to blow minds and'll just fade away. Same for Amped, hardly a big seller to a big audience and something I hear no one talk about.
Most games at launch sunk into the shadows when the real meat of the platform started to show up. Halo 3, Mass Effect, Forza 2, Bioshock, Gears of War and so on. Most of those came out in the same year. The initial release is barely a warm up.

This coming gen has got big multiplat franchises coming out at launch and to think the likes of Knack or Ryse or Drive Club could even compete against COD, BF4, Fifa or AC4 is nuts. COD alone will outsell every game by a mile.

Bummer. Drive club would be the game that I'd be looking forward to the most if I were getting a PS4 on launch. I can't imagine this makes many people happy.
