Driveclub delayed, PSN+ replacement is Contrast

A lot of people believe that when they're buying a launch console, that they know that the company they're investing in will ensure it's success.

But it's blind faith nonsense. Look at people who bought a WiiU or PS3 at launch, a lot of good their "foresight" brought them.

Awesome games? WiiU has a pretty great lineup this year and PS3 has had some of the best games of the generation. If you're referring to first year draught, that happens for pretty much every console in it's first year. Making the argument that Titanfall (one game) is filling that draught while ignoring all the 1st party games/indie games coming to PS4 in 2014 is pretty one-sided.

late to reading the thread but what a disappointment :'( , thats a bummer to hear
DriveClub was starting to interest me too.

at least i have my PS3 still for GT6

A new indie game centers itself on one mechanic -- the idea that you can move in 3D or flatten yourself against walls in 2D.

Sounds waaaaay cooler than Driveclub.

Really? all hardware units are sold for the year, with additional Christmas sales they'll likely be sold out until infamous in february. I really think your out of touch with the world, at the end of June Killzone had 10x more pre orders than driveclub, at the end of the day Driveclub delayed means almost nothing to pre orders, it is only important i these "console wars" as you put it. I think you need to step back and get some perspective on the Difference of interest in Xbox one and PS4 and ask yourself if an xb360 game is going to make people get rid of their 360 and buy an xbone.
Hey, first of all I said "less", not that the outcome is no longer possible.

And you can't use Driveclub preorders as a barometer for interest since everyone was expecting it for free.

Uhh, yes. He's counting the initial release simply because that represents the state of development. That's what was ready for PS2 back in March 2000.

The US launch occurred well after the hardware had been made available elsewhere.

I don't live in Japan, this matters to me how? The console had 3 (more actually) launches, each with it's own launch line up.

PS2 EU and US launch > PS4 US and EU launch.

Development didn't start at the same time so the "more time to develop" isn't really valid either. Some of these games didn't even make it to Japan till later, or at all, were dev kits even available at the same time for EU and US developers as they were for Japanese times? Doubt it.

Yeah definitely a hybrid. At E3 it felt a lot like PGR3 which made me really happy. NFS Rivals looks good but honestly if I want to play an open world full-on arcadey racer I can just go race in GTAV lol.

Exactly! I absolutely loved Forza Horizon because it blended arcade and sim together, like PGR did. Normal Forza titles, like Gran Turismos, just aren't as enjoyable to me. That's why I'm really disappointed about the DC delay. Sure, there's still Forza, but that's too sim for me. Sure, there's still Need for Speed, but that's too arcade for me. DC looked to be that perfect balance. :(

The PS3 made a successful turnaround, but it took years for it to happen and it still suffered for it with weaker third party software sales. I mean, yeah, it's fucking great now. but from 2006 until... 2008? 9? It was in bad shape. People that waited out the 360 for it hitched their ride to the wrong wagon and suffered for it.

Not that the same will happen to the PS4! I'm just saying that buying consoles at launch will always be a gamble shrouded by faith.

This news doesn't surprise me. It seemed questionable from E3 if they were going to get it done in time. Better for them to delay it and get it done properly rather than rush it. The launch line up is starting to get really lacking though now.

it's happening, there's no likelihood about it, if anything, long term, Driveclub having a March-ish release will probably increase PS4 sales overall as it will be a new release, new releases always bring boosts in sales, and it will still be free with PS+. This is probably the time when I tell you the PS4 has actually gone to #1 on todays best sellers at amazon.co.uk above pokemon and GTA:

Delaying driveclub has not driven sales down and likely will not have any real negative effect on PS4 sales.

Why are you comparing the PS4 launch to the PS3s or even the Wii U?
The PS4 is in a much better position than both of those were.

Just leaving this here for people who haven't fully realized they are getting this game FOR FREE, in addition to Driveclub, whenever it launches. Please let that sink in :)

What is the alternative? Wait eight years to make doubly sure you're buying the better system?

You don't need 'faith', you need to want to play video games, and have that force your hand.

Contrast looks great. Personally, any game in the PS4 launch is better than a half-ass version of a genre I have no interest in.

Who do I tweet to tell them to add split-screen now that they have more time ?

Also, I was going to get Contrast anyway, so it's not that bad for me. Though now I'll be left with either Killzone or BF4 as AAA game. Hm. Both I wanted most are delayed.

The game is still 1080p/30fps right not, just expect that with more polish.
At this stage the game is running at 1080p@30fps, which at face value really defies how fluid it feels and how stunning it looks. We'll be recording another direct feed video for you soon, to show you an update on the outstanding 1080p graphics and racing, because the authentic and dynamic lighting system has come a long way since you saw it last.
There are many things that need to be confirmed before we can be more specific than “early 2014”. We will of course keep you updated and you can look forward to seeing more gameplay and information as development continues.

What the hell am I reading? I can understand when it comes to RROD and the drop of exclusives this past year or so, but the 360 was an excellent game system.

Can't see how a few good exclusives mid-to-late into the life of the PS3 made it the right system.

Edit: And why are there suddenly rumors going around about Killzone being delayed? Tis' a funny place, the internet.

crazy this is such a big deal.
i just have never cared about racing games.
until i came here i thought only CoD guys or gamers who gamed for the sake of saying they gamed played em >.<

Contrast looks like a pretty high budget indie game. I thought it was a generic 2d platformer from what i seen of it before.

If they start taking requests the game will come out in 2018

But it would be the most glorious racing game ever with the ability for 4 player local co-op with 4K 60fps Oculus Rift support and when you look to your right in your car you can bring your doggy with you and customize your car and doggy and every country will have a track represented in the game.
I'd wait 5 years for that

Bummed out by the delay, but I wasn't going to play it for long, anyway. My games schedule is packed with the launches of both the PS4 and the Xbox One, so I was only going to use DriveClub as a buffer between Forza and GT6 to avoid racing sim fatigue. Hopefully this delay will allow the devs to polish it up to the initial reveal's level, and possibly hit 60fps.

On a side note, Contrast looks great! I'm psyched to be getting that for free in addition to the DriveClub PS+ edition later on.

Or, you know, people who like cars and car racing?

Surely you can see why it is disappointing in that regard.

Contrast looks great and I love the concept, but I really really hope they refined the controls and how it feels. It didn't feel very good while playing it at E3. So hopefully they've refined it. Jumping felt a bit floaty and hard to time jumping on to things. I'd have to do things over and over again because of having trouble with the precision.

I never understood the hype for Driveclub anyway, it's just another racing game to me. I still would have tried it as a PS+ member though.

I'm perfectly fine with Contrast, I planned on buying it anyway, it looks amazing. I'm a sucker for anything with a 40's-50's film noire setting. I think a lot of people in here spouting so much hate for it are misinformed or haven't even seen anything about it.

i actually could not possibly care less about cars, but i really enjoy racing games. i tend to enjoy arcade racing games like motorstorm and wipeout much more than sim games like gran turismo. it's a genre with a surprising amount of variety, from mario kart to gran turismo.

Better be 60fps if they're making us wait.
Also Greatness Awaits
just a while longer
This sucks, as it means I'll only have the true next-gen FIFA and KZ for the rest of the year on PS4.

I had no interest in driveclub aside from it being free, so i was going to check into it on that basis alone. Still, man all these delays...

I don't understand the idea we're getting Contrast in addition to DC. There are two games coming to PS+ a month, aren't there? We don't get 3 games in November. We don't get 3 games in the month DC comes out. They just replaced it. Nothing extra here.

maybe i've just been burned by so many blind psn game purchases, but contrast doesn't look that special to me yet. i'm not pissed about getting it for free via ps+ though. there's not many other digital launch titles that have caught my interest yet. it'd be nice to find out it's a fun game for me when i get my hands on it.

I was going to pick up/get Contrast anyway so...this is actuallcy not that bad. In the meantime, I'm gonna spend some time with NFS:Rivals.

Okay, been busy with work all day until now, so I haven't been able to closely follow things here.

Any word on why Drive Club was delayed exactly? Is there a bug, some feature that isn't finished, or do they just need a little extra time to optimize performance?

"In addition", as in it wasn't originally planned. You would have had to pay for contrast. Now you don't. It may or may not have been part of PS+. Now it is. And you don't have to pay for Driveclub PS+ either. Ergo, "in addition".

Man I'm sold on your idea. That sounds incredible

You don't need a PSN+ sub to get the game?

Terrible that it had to be delayed and I hope we get the 60fps. The thought of delaying my console buy has crossed my mind. The 360 had a great launch with Kameo/PDZ/PGR, a game for every genre. Thats why I liked the launch line up for PS4. Either way, at least we get it early 2014 and it doesn't hurt that Infamous will be around. Four solid exclusive titles within 4 months of launch isn't half bad.
