how's bleach?

Bleach is a fantastic game and without a doubt the best 2D fighter on the DS.
I have to admit I was a Bleach fan already so I don't know how much of that helped to make the game as good as I think it is. Having said that, I've never been a fan of 2D fighters but I absolutely adore this game.

The fighting mechanics are really unique in that you can execute moves with a single tap of the touch screen. This makes it very welcoming to beginners, but in no way does it remove from the depth of the game. All moves can be pulled off using button inputs too and once mastered tend to be faster and better than using the touch screen since you have more control in the timing and power. The touch screen functions are great for beginners as I've already said, but they also remove the frustration of having to do a 793 button command to pull off a super move.
Another unique addition to the battle mechanics is the Reifu System or Card System. There are a few hundred cards to collect throughout the game and they can be used in battle to alter different things. There are healing cards, invisibility cards, elemental cards (adds elemental damage to your hits) - and these are just a few of the many "personal" cards - there are also "enemy" cards that are used to disable or somehow disrupt the enemy such as Anti-Block cards, Disable Supers cards etc. So another important part of the game is constructing a good deck of cards, and cards can really change the tide of the battle in critical conditions.
In fairness, cards can be great fun but it has to be said they also "break" the game. Once you have all the cards it's possible to make insane decks that make you virtually untouchable or allow you to do infinite supers etc. Now this would be a major problem but luckily cards can be turned on or off very easily so there isn't much to complain about.

Multiplayer is where Bleach truly shines. Not only can you play with 4 people at a time locally but you can also take advantage of the DS's WiFi capabilities and play against people across the globe. Turning cards off is a must in multiplayer unless you agree beforehand to use "balanced" decks, but online you can never be certain so it's better to just turn cards off all together. I actually prefer playing without cards anyway because then it really is all about skill and precision and not about getting lucky with cards.

The single player game is great too. There is a pretty large story mode with many characters to unlock. There is an arcade mode, versus mode, time attack mode, survival mode and challenge mode. Challenge mode is amazing for honing your skills: you select a character and are given increasingly difficult combos to perform. There are hundreds of cards to unlock. There is also a shopping centre where you can buy cards, music, game art, additional character costumes etc.

Anyway, I think I've said enough. Feel free to ask for clarification about anything I mentioned, or ask me any questions about the game. :)

How is Guilty Gear Dust Strikers? It's from Majesco so I expect quality, but entertain me with your insight.

It's pretty good. Not Majesco Psychonauts good, but definitely not Majesco Advent Rising bad. Worth picking up.

atm i have 5 games.

tetris i would rate AA VERY good game and probably the best multiplayer because as long as there is another DS around no one is offended by a quick game of it.

mario kart i think AAA due to the fact is got complete replayability for single and multiplayer and a quick game is so easy to get back into.

animal crossing is A for me i can see why everyone loves it and i can see why i SHOULD love it but i just cant get into it but im sure others can and would give it a AAA.

trauma center. wow. awesome game loved it start to finish and i can see myself going back every now and then just to see if i can beat my old scores. AAA.

phoenix wright AA. its basically a good book in many ways you follow the story line and almost get offended if the char you like turns out different then you thought they would be ;)

i plan on getting castlevania, advance wars, mario and luigi PiT and NSMB when its out

these are all my own opinions and ratings so works for me but might not for you :P

Because I am enjoying it so much (playing on my DS lite!) I thought I would post some RE: DS impressions.

- Two game modes classic and Rebirth
- Rebirth Mode has extra enemies, new touch screen puzzles and frantic touch screen battles

- Removing zombies heads with the shotgun is still very satisfying
- Easy to use quick turn and quick knife are both welcome
- The Voice acting is so bad its good.
- The game is still full of tense moments
- Having the map available on the top screen is a god send

I'm getting a DS Lite soon, and these are the games I'm getting:

- Trauma Center.
- Phoenix Wright. (actually have it already, but I'm tired of borrowing my sister's DS all the time).
- Brain Age (ditto).
- Metoes.
- Castlevania.
- Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten (my main reason for getting a DS).

After picking up a Lite and going game hunting I realized that the DS is apparently the ugly step-sister of gaming retail. Stores have almost nothing.

I'm really tempted to get the lite.

I currently don't have a DS but for some strange reason I'm really wanting to play Brain Age.

Also how different is the animal crossings from game cube to the one on the DS? I'm also wondering if it's more fun since you can play online? Also how well does the wifi work? What are the best WiFi games?

If I pick one up i'm guessing I'll get

NSMB
Mario Kart
Brain Age
Trauma Center

I'm also thinking of using my gamefly account to rent other recomendations with the ability to keep them If I like them! :) The only this is do I have the money! :(

Blockbuster has always experiemented with renting portable games when new platforms come out, but everytime it's been a bust. The stores around here only have PSP games, and it's probably just a matter of time before they wind up on clearance racks.

NSMB and Brain-Age beg to differ + the awesome upcoming line up, can't be matched.

Is ouendan worth it if you know nothing about japanese?

And is Phoenix Wright worth getting from ebay, or should I wait for the rumored reprint?

Bust-A-Move DS have 5 player single-card play - I find its multiplayer better than Puyo Pop Fever, despite the 3 less players.

Ok, so I'm finishing up NSMB. I definitely want a puzzle game next, so it's either Meteos or Tetris. I have a wireless router, so I'll be able to play Tetris online. Which is the better choice?

Any others worth importing?

Bleach and Ouendan have been mentioned so far a few times

Tetris, because of the online. Meteos is my third favorite DS game, but can't compare to online Tetris... And the Meteos sequel will probably have Wi-Fi play, but then it'll be marred by the Disney license, so it still wouldn't be able to compare.

i havent even played Tetris, but Meteos is one of the best puzzle games made. Plus Meteos should be cheap now.

Touche, Jiggy.

easy, Tetris.

Currently finishing Resident Evil on my old DS (classic mode of course). I expect to receive my DS Lite this week. I already have Super Mario Bros, Metroid Prime Hunter and Tetris lined up to play! After that I want to restart Advance Wars DS.

Jump Superstars is also worth importing. But then again JSS2 is coming out later this year so you could wait for that I guess.

I'm getting the DSL next week too.

Currently I have:
-Mario Kart DS
-Metroid Prime Hunters
-New Super Mario Bros

All are good games imo. I plan on getting Advance Wars DS shortly after I get the DSL.

So New Super Mario, Castlevania, Trauma Center, and Phonix Wright all look to be must buys for me.

But what about those odd Japanese games like Feel the Magic, Rub Rabbits, and Sprung? Anyone have any opinions on these three titles?

I love my DS Lite. Here are the games I consider must-buys:

Mario Kart
New Super Mario Bros.
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright
Castlevania (if you're a Castlevania fan)

I actually have a ton of games that I love for this thing, but some of them probably aren't loved by all. For instance, I love Metroid Prime Hunters and Resident Evil, but I think the consensus around here is that both are below par. I was also a big fan of Kirby: CC and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. As well as Brain Training and a couple of other games. I just love the DS. I think it's the best system since the Super Nintendo.

EU/US releases: (those that I played)
Advance Wars DS
Kirby CC
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing WW
Metroid Prime Hunters
Mario 64
Sonic Rush
Trauma Centre: UTK
Yoshi Touch and Go
Warioware: Touched

Import releases:
Bleach DS
Jump Superstars
Ouendan

Future releases: (which im looking forward to)
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Yoshi Island 2
Zelda: PH
Puyo Pop Fever 2
Children of Mana
Final Fantasy III
Mario 3on3
Elite Beat Agents
Tales of the Tempest
Jump Superstars 2
