DS market Europe>>>USA>>>JAPAN

The add campaign is pretty good too.Really flashy, and broadcast on prime time here in the Netherlands.

Damn, I want a DS :(

This is absolutely splendid news if true (which it seems it is). Nintendo's definitely gotta be near that six million mark, especially in terms of shipped.

For a system that a lot of people on here consider practically "dead", the DS sure has had a great start (and that's even with sucky software launch in the US).

My hat's off to Nintendo. They've really surpassed almost all expectations and the numbers we're seeing, probably makes the DS the most successful hardware launches of all-time

I don't know how many units the GBA did in it's first 5 1/2 months, but Nintendo's going to be pushing a healthy bit more than 5M and perhaps upwards of 6M units. Simply amazing.

Stupid Sony. Let's announce a system we haven't even developed yet to give Nintendo 2 years notice! Idiots.

You just praised Nintendo. I'm proud of you, sonycowboy. :D

I don't expect it again though.. :)

Nah, I've seen him praise both Nintendo and Microsoft before, and I'm sure he'll do it again. Although he has his bias (and don't we all?) sonycowboy's a fairly reasonable guy in my experience.

But on the flip side, IMO Nintendo coulda shoulda put more power under the DS' hood (like DC level) to lessen the discrepancy between the graphics of the DS vs. PSP. They knew what power the psp was going to have. That may hurt the DS down the road.

That'd make sense if DS was their "long term" product to take over for Game Boy. But I doubt it is...

i don't believe you exist, please give me the source article to your birth or to me you are a figment of my stupid imagination

I know this is practically impossible but this just made me imagine if there were only two people on the boards, yourself and some mad man who pretended to be hundreds of members.

That total DS number is lower than I thought it was, even without the Feb NPD data yet. That's only around 4 million.. hmm..
It's missing...

-US Feb-Mar
-CA Nov-Mar
-AU Feb-Mar
-JP Mar

... DS is likely around 4.3M to 4.5M right now worldwide, maybe even higher. It'll be past 5M by March 31st easy.

Yeah, that's more around where I thought it would be. I'm just.. stupid. :lol

Not at all. I'd have to think that they've succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations. The technical work is going into the GBANext. I truly think Nintendo was intending this to merely be a stopgap to blunt the PSP, which it seems like it's going to do quite well. But, I think they may have actually convinced people and stumbled into a viable system. :D

It's too early to say for either system, but with 6M units soon, with probably at least a guaranteed 10M by the end of the year, the NDS has certainly proven to be a real contender

NDS first year = 10M
PS2 first year = 10M
GBA, Xbox, GCN first years = ??? < 10M

You're a smart one. Most people (not just on this message board) can't seem to realize that everyone has some sort of bias towards any and every thing. :)

okay so Reggie confirmed that US sales where at 2.5million
We know Jap sales are 1.8 million or so.
Euro sales are 600k
Aussie sales are 20k
Canada we don't know

So i get 4.9Million at the moment -Canada

US Sales aren't anywhere near 2.5M. Not even close.

Edging on the conservative side, I'd say US sales are around 1.65M right now and they'll be 1.8M or so by the end of March. Reggie's comment of 2.5M was likely for shipments, not sold through. And likely for all of North America, not just the US.

There's probably 150-200k or sold in Canada already too.

listen to the frickin IGN vid, and he says

right here we've SOLD THROUGH around 2.5million ds'
NPD just doesn't support that though, unless DS moved about a million units the past month and a half. Granted NPD are just estimates while Nintendo has access to actual pop sales figures (via SiRAS) but that's a pretty large discrepancy.

I fear for your life, jarrod.. you aren't believing what Reggie has said, and we know what happens then. I once did the same.. and now can no longer help make babies.. ~cries~

Well, what? 1.7 million in the USA up to the point in the interview? Add in total Canadian sales for the entire period. Not that far from being true. I'm sure Nintendo has a better idea of how their games sell than anyone else. It's only a matter of time before it's officially reported in "sales" and not "shipped" numbers......

I'm really happy that the DS is doing well. The system is well intended, a good step for the industry. I can just hope we get some good software coming. Where are the FPS/RTS this system is so well suited for?
