Dual monitors are the best thing ever

I love dual monitors, so superior.

That's like the worst game to play on it. A mouse and keyboard strategy game with a giant screen you need to sit far away from to keep in your field of view.

yup. Dual monitors are a must. I only use one monitor for the actual gaming, but with all of these smart phone/tablet additions being added to games my second monitor will become more and more used as additional interface functionality in a Wii U capacity--like Battlefield 4's map interface on my second monitor for example.

I used two monitors for a long while until one died and never replaced it. I just got a new 27" monitor and I could use my old as a dual set up but the reason I bought a new monitor is because my old one has shot capacitors. They don't store power anymore. If I turn the monitor off for more than a few minutes it takes like 10 minutes to turn back on. If I unplug it, it takes hours.

So I could use it as a dual set up but I would just never turn it off, which is what I was doing until this new one came. Hmm not sure. It has been a couple years since I had two monitors.

Getting a new 24" 1080p monitor for Christmas. I'm planning on using my 20" 1600 x 900 as a secondary. It won't be too awkward to use with different resolutions, right?

No. At least it was never awkward for me. I don't have them flush right next to each other, the second monitor is just off to the side.

Super useful for guides to games, chats, and streams.

I've been with two monitors for 6 months now, 1920x1200 and 1920x1080, it's awesome. Before then, I did not know about windowskey + arrow keys, really useful.

I don't use dual monitors, but I often have my one monitor accompanied by a laptop on my home desk.

I do this, I find it even better. If I need to pop to another room I can just whip up my macbook air with me and carry on with some of the stuff I was doing. Will have a game / video / stream on my main 27" and neogaf and skype on my macbook, skpe and neogaf needs to come with me, the media can stay rooted in the room.

no. the bezels ruin the immersion for me. i know that there are those with smaller bezels but honestly i'd rather have none. i'm waiting for affordable curved displays to reach the PC scene ( it's already starting on phones and tvs)

edit: im talking about gaming. i don't need another screen for regular web browsing.

I imagine you feel helpless with one lol
Yeah, basically. I have a hard time concentrating on just programming. I need a second monitor playing a video of some kind or my productivity drops off because I get bored and end up on GAF or Reddit. Also, the second monitor is incredibly useful for debugging, holding code samples, or any number of things.

My current setup at home. I need to spend a little money on making the rest of the room nice instead of just the equipment in it.

There is no other way than dual monitors. MAAAAYBE workspaces as I do use them on Linux in concert with my duals. Shit is fucking awesome.

I have my pc hooked up on my huge ass HDTV

I just make the windows smaller and place them side by side if a want the dual screen effect.

You know what's really cool?

Hell yeah.

I remember when I was in the study room back in 6th form to do an essay. First thing I did was rotate my monitor to portrait. Literally everyone else in the room looked at me as if to say "why the fuck didn't I think of that?" and then half did exactly the same as me.

also, classic skin winamp. fuck yeah

Gentlemen, tomorrow I join the dual monitor world. I ordered two Ben Q XL2720Z monitors.

With a 1920x1080 resolution, is there any advantage to using a display port over DVI or HDMI?

Yes they are! I just ordered one new 23" monitor to replace the TV I'm using as one right now, then at the end of the year or around tax return time I'm going to order another one. Despite the new monitor being higher resolution, it's way smaller than my TV, dunno how that's gonna be.

But yes, having 2 monitors is my end goal for the year.

Hdmi is pretty much just dvi + sound so it doesn't matter iirc. I run three monitors one Hdmi one dvi and one display port to dvi and there is absolutely no difference.

I used to have two crt monitors like 10 years ago. There was barely any room for keyboard and mouse on my desk. I couldn't live without second monitor anymore. Tbh I want 3rd monitor!

Dual monitors are an absolute necessity for working on projects, but Borderless Window modes in games are the worst.

i would totally just get this LG 34" 21:9 monitor if I had $1,000 to spare. But i figure you can get two Korean 30" LCDs for the same price

I use two at work but they're crappy 1280x1024 resolution and two aren't nearly enough. I could fill more than 2 screens with the crap I'm supposed to be monitoring in real time and then I need actual desktop space to do other work.

Don't you need 2 gfx cards for 3 monitors? Most only have 2 outputs. Using the onboard video as the 3rd wouldn't work well for games.

My graphics card has two DVI ports, one HDMI port, and a Display port. It doesn't have many problems displaying all four of my 1080p monitors.

A lot of modern cards have the ability to output to at least 4. I'm using at GTX 680 and it's pushing video to DVI monitors and an HDTV over HDMI. Multiple cards will give you better performance for highly graphic intensive games if you want to display hi-res games on multiple monitors.

if you are using a tv do hdmi, if you are using a computer monitor use dvi.

Add a Chromecast to the mix and suddenly you have a dual screen setup and a dedicated live stream TV.

I normally keep my writing stuff on my 24" monitor, mail client on my 19", and a GB video on my 32" TV behind me.

At work: 2 monitors.
At home: One.

I don't do nearly enough multitasking at home to warrant more than one. Would consider multi monitors for gaming but bezels annoy the shit out of me

I used to have dual monitors, then one of them died. Honestly, I really only used the second monitor for mIRC. I'd trade them both for a widescreen one.

I have dual monitors at work. It's okay.

I have a three monitor setup at home, so how can I call dual the best thing ever?

I like my current setup involving two 50ft hdmi cables. 2 monitors in the living room, 2 in my bedroom. Also, 2 at work because photoshop.

I've used dual monitors for a couple of years and while I do love it I really think it's ruined my ability to focus on one thing. While I'm typing this I've got a video on the other monitor that I'm not really paying attention to, which happens a lot. So many times I've just not gotten anything out of films or TV shows because I've had GAF or other stuff going on at the same time, unable to give one or the other an appropriate amount of attention.

I've considered getting rid of the two 1080p monitors and buying one really nice 1440p as a replacement.

Have had dual monitors pretty much ever since LCD monitors became a thing.
I almost feel claustrophobic when I use other peoples PC's and they only have one display.

I just hopped aboard this bandwagon the other day. I ordered a new monitor and was unable to sell my old one so I just connected it to my PC and ran a 3840x1080 setup. It's beautiful.

Now I'm contemplating getting a second monitor of the same type as my new one (BenqXL2011t) just to make sure the colour is consistent across both my monitors.

I have dual monitors, one of them is in portrait mode for reading/browsing.
the second one is in landscape mode for videos/games.

I've been using 3 monitors. All of my browsing in the middle, RSS feeds on the left and video streaming on the right. I love it.
