DualShock 4-controlled BMW - Need for Speed Launch Day.

Do we actually see the guy in the back (of course there is one, don't be stupid, if for insurance purposes alone) actually driving, as a proof of this being "fake"?

Yes. He's clearly turning the steering wheel in the direction the car is turning.

That's even more funny. And that reminds me, I need to get a car wrapped by him one day.
Hopefully one day I'll have a car that's worth being wrapped by him haha!

I would never have watched that video since it was almost 50 minutes long.. but it was 3am and I couldn't sleep.

How the fuck do you drive a car from the backseat?

Wouldn't that take some ridiculous tinkering to set the steering back?

Here's a gif of the hand, it's hard to see behind the dark glass and goes away fast, but it's there.

Hahahaha you tried sony and ea..

I know the feeling dude. My wife tells me some study showed that you should remove yourself from all electronics a few hours before you're going to sleep to ensure your mind is not focused or thinking about distracting things, and that you will sleep better and easier as a result. I don't know if she just made that up or whether there's some truth to it lol.

EDIT: Oh snap, she's right!

Seen something on the BBC about it, but I can't not use my phone when I'm in bed. Girlfriends/wives are right more often than not. We just tend not to listen to them lol.

But yes guys, there's is a driver in the back. It's a pretty cool setup, just wish the video wasn't made private so I could share it.

Left the link incase some of you are smart enough to somehow get to to play

Couldn't this be a safety precaution?

Yes. It makes perfect sense to have a second driver to make sure something goes wrong, just like 'drone' cars currently have secondary drivers.

The fact that you see a safety driver doesn't mean this is fake, in fact, it makes it more likely to be real.

That said, the hand actually 'driving' is suspicious.

Take a seat on the spoiler for a different camera angle.

I'm pretty sure less people get injured when an empty car crashes.

You're right! A bit scummy on EA's part lol

Posted on the PlaystationUK account with the only branding besides NFS at the end in the video being Playstation > scummy EA. Makes sense.

I mean we also coincidentally never see the car and him taking a corresponding action on the controller in the same shot.

But many more can get injured when an out of control car without a safety driver goes off into the distance...

What's highly suspicious is the hand actually doing some (apparently) driving, not the presence of a person in the car which would normally be mandated by insurance/ authorities.

it was an empty lot, at best the controls stop working and it rolls forward for a while.
No high speeds in the video either.

On what basis do you say that?

It wouldn't be forbidden on private property which this properly is.

Nah, I don't think that'd be needed on a closed circuit. Myth busters definitely didn't have a backup driver when they were destroying some remote controlled cars after all. But it's pretty clear the hand on the wheel is there and this is fake.

People believe spots and PR guys now and needs evidence for this being fake?
tbh, I'd think it's easier to make the car remote controlled than to re-route all the controls to the rear seat. That seems like an electromechanical nightmare.

What ranges does DS4 even have? That`s ridiculous.
If this was real, DS4 would have to control a radio emitter box, which would control the car. Of course they wouldn't use short range bluetooth to control directly, but it's still perfectly doable.

It's possible to do this (see mythbusters, they use remote controlled cars) but this one is 100% fake.

See 0:25, you can see a hand turning a wheel in the back behind the smoked glass.

Nice catch.

Busted.

Embarrassing isn't the right word for this, lol.

They should have just been honest and said it was a publicity stunt. Nobody would have cared. The person who tried to pass it off as real should be sacked.

Depending on how remote controlling is done, it doesn't have to move. I think new BMWs don't have directly connected steering wheels to steering mechanism.

They have electric assisted steering, but there is definitely still a steering shaft attached to the steering rack in the event of power loss you can still steer the vehicle.

Why? He made a mistake by saying something definitive.

Calling for him to be fired because of this, unless it'd cause more than a chuckle from people, is just malevolent.

You can never trust anything PR says anyway. You're even expected not to believe bullshit ads.

I see. Still, it would be possible to sever that connection (which I guess they did in fact do here to re-route steering to the back seat)
