Ducktales Remastered is leaving the digital stores

On PS4 there actually was no physical way to get this. I mean I bought the physical edition but it was just a case with a pin and a code in it
Are all the physical versions just a code in a box? I hate that practice, it's deceptive, cheap, and wasteful

Yeah mine has a disc....

oh geez
Does anyone know if the Steam versions have been raped for Doom?
Just buy the original wads and use a modern freeware engine to play them. From "Chocolate DOOM" (that makes it look/sound exactly like the original in 1993 as if you are playing on a 486) to "zDOOM" or other engines that allow for tons of improvements.

No.

If it didn't exist there would be no copy to have, so you ruin your entire argument in your first sentence.
I specifically said "doesn't exist anymore". Which implies it existed at one time.

If a game doesn't exist on the market anymore but there are old physical copies floating around, you can still access it by getting a second hand copy or one from some forgotten stock.

If a game doesn't exist on the market and it was in digital form only it means there is no way to access it anymore.

Basically, there is no way you can legally get it?

I'm not the pirate police.

It's immoral, and illegal, but if I was a creator I'd want everyone in the world to play it,

So I'm not the best judge of a situation like this.

So wait. If the game doesn't exist anymore and you don't have it... is it OK to download a pirated copy of it?

It's about your own morals.
I buy everything for current and last gen systems. I have a mixture of physical and digital PS3/PS4/X360 games. If I can't buy a PS3/X360 game by digital means I'll track the physical copy down from a retail or online store.
I have over 1000 games on Steam, over 500 games on GoG and at least 40 games on EA Origin.

But old games that simply can't be purchased what so ever on the 1st hand market? Why does the person selling it deserve the money? It's not going towards or helping the industry in any way, shape or form. If you want to talk about buying physical, when it comes to buying old games, there is literally no difference between buying the original game second hand or paying someone to download and rip the game for you when it comes to the original copyright owner. They aren't seeing any dollars.

Digitally speaking, if Steam and GoG were shut down tomorrow, am I honestly expected to buy 1500+ games again?

Currently the gaming industry has done a really shit job of preserving it's history, they need to get off their arse and starting releasing more of their classic and older titles. The movie industry has been around for 100 years and obviously couldn't preserve it's history at the start but it's doing a good job of releasing and preserving it's history now. I sure as hell hope the gaming industry doesn't take 100 years to start preserving things properly.

I think I have this on PS3, but I just bought it on Steam anyway...…...Hope this is not a "Fear of Loss" ploy by the publisher..... :messenger_grinning:

If it's on PS3 it's gone, at least if you have it on 360 you can still redownload it and play it on your current gen system.

Have this on the PS3, forgot I purchased it. Never played his version, should give it a go soon.

Meanwhile, no more DOOM classic complete on the PS3/360.

You have to suffer through the junk ports in current gen for up to date classic Doom console games.

If you have DOOM BFG on PS3/360/PC, you get the best versions of the old doom classics...…..

Pretty funny that the remaster will be gone, but the original will stay on. A perfect example to show what an all-digital feature can bring.

Can't understand the love people have for going all digital.

I have 330 games in my Xbox collection (OG Xbox, Xbox 360 & Xbox One), I also have other interests (movies, comic books & manga, windsurfing) and I Don't live in a mansion, so space is a problem. For movies, I prefer the picture quality of Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays over streaming so I buy them physical. For comic books & mangas, I like the feel of the paper but digital games are not affected by picture quality, it's exactly the same quality as the physical copy so, for me, digital is a huge space saver, I buy my games digital since it was introduced on 360 because it's practical. I have around 1000 - 1200 BR/UHD BR and I Don't know how many comics/mangas and I Don't even talk about the space needed by 2 complete windsurf boards, so yeah it's digital all the way for me because I don't have a choice.

This I don't get as someone physical for life, you can get UHD & BRs for free and have them take up a space the size of your hand. Morals aside pirating movies is just such a better experience, stream your collection anywhere in the world, no physical space etc.

I buy physical only because my rights can never be removed and games continue to go up in price and become rarer to find over time. And I like to look at them, I'm sure the same as you with the movies.

I would have personally swapped your movie collection for digital and amassed a physical game collection instead, but different strokes for all of us.

I have enough surfboards and bodyboards to take up a single garage space now so I know exactly where your coming from on the rest hopefully next house sorts that because it's starting to do my head in.

Haven't you read the tittle?
It's being removed.
Puff!..
Gone!
Not there anymore!
I hope your hard drives are built to last, because once you delete it from there, it's as if you never "bought" it! That's the problem when buying "Services", and that's why you can't tell that you have a "Collection" out of them.

This is a shame, I was waiting to pick this up on the cheap someday. Guess not anymore.

How cheap did it actually need to be someday?

Bought it on 360, was only 4 bucks or so. Thanks for the heads up
I have it on the Wii U, but got it on Steam for the heck of it. 3.74 is a good price. I can't remember the last time I turned on my PS3, so yeah.
Just got this for a little over £2 on 360. Next to nothing. Thanks for the heads up GAF

Wii U version is £3.95 this week. $3.74 on Xbox. If you think that's too expensive or you can't afford it delisting a digital game isn't the biggest problem in your life.

Yeah, sadly with longer load times to get into that classic mode for each game itself, versus the Classic Complete (which also has Final Doom, BFG does not), but it is still better than the shoddy ports on the current gen system.

It would be nice if platform holders made it mandatory for the products they sold to remain available to purchasers to re-download. Not saying mandatory for them to sell after licensing deals expire. Just to allow prior purchasers to re-download what they purchased.

This is the very least they should do.

It's a good game too. I have it for a few platforms. Grab it while digital stocks last! But if someone happens to buy the last digital copy, nevermind, just borrow it from a friend. No, wait...

They should do this too, put a "SOLD OUT" sign on digital storefront, fuck with people's minds, man. Cuz after all, we're not buying the game anyway, just a licence!

That is correct, if I can't access my digital games through the digital store front it's the only way to get them.
It's the same with games from the 8/16/32 and even PS2/GC/DC/XB era that can't be purchased anywhere or any more. Whether you buy the game 2nd hand or acquire it by downloading, the copyright owners aren't receiving any money what so ever. If you have the space and want to amass a physical collection, go for gold and buy 2nd hand copies of games. If you want to keep your library digital, go for gold and acquire them however you can if they aren't available for purchase.

Interesting topic of discussion for this.
If people could start selling their digital copies, do you think the system would take off? Why hasn't this been possible? Surely Steam can implement a way through it's marketplace to swap digital rights to games?
Can the console manufacturers work out a way to do this,?

Yeah call me sceptical but good luck with that. No developer Will ever allow uncontrolled download of their licensed software. Just look at Nintendo who recently attacked multiple rom sites resulting in the removal of roms of games that haven't been downloadable the last 20 years.

You basically admitted that you don't own games you digitally bought.

I think your topic of reselling digital games is interesting but aside of the issue I mentioned above, they Will never allow it because they want to control the price of a platform they own.

In a digital only Future developers can do whatever they want with games. They vmcan maintain any price they want because you'll no longer be able anymore to buy games physically second hand. Digital only takes all the power of the consumer and gives it back' to the companies. Which wouldn't be any problem if companies weren't anti consumer. But yeah, we all saw how that went since gaming became digital and DLC and microtransactions entered the gaming community.

Digital blows. I wanted to buy Marvel vs. Capcom Origins on PS3 last night, oh I can't because of an expired licence, so no one is ever buying that really cool collection again!

Isn't this a marketing way of boosting sales? Only to re-release it a couple of years after? This had been on my wishlist since it first came out, always saying to myself, next sale I'll get it cheaper. And now I'm finally going to get it lol.

Digital isn't entirely evil, there are a tonne of games we simply would not have gotten if it wasn't for the digital age. There are many developers/publishers who simply can't afford to go physical. I'd rather get those games than never get them at all.

I think not getting some indie games is better than giving up our consumer rights. What games trump consumer rights to you?

So you'd prefer thousands of people not having a job? You'd prefer a world where people can't make and offer their artistic vision?

I would prefer not to get some indie game instead of giving up our consumer rights. There are no laws out there protecting your digital game purchases. The physical equivalent would be someone coming to your door and forcing you to return all of your physical games to their publisher.

Out of curiosity, do you feel differently about DRM-free games on GOG, for example?

Indie developers are the ones who need the most support and are the ones who are making the more unique games. They are also the ones who will try and esure their fans have access to their games no matter what.
I highly doubt consumer rights is your high priority, it's more likely just the fact that you like to have a physical collection. That's cool and all but I like to try and support the industry "invigorators" where I can.

I remember playing the OG on NES when I was about 8. I picked up the Wii U physical copy and blasted through it once (sold it along with system). I miss it. Maybe they might put it on current platforms at some point.

Outside of PT which was a free demo, isn't this standard and what they do now?

Yes, since those games won't be taken away by anyone.

You just can't see how some people value consumer rights over more games, can you?

Ofcourse not. Digital is what made indie developers big. And I have no problem with digital. What I would have a problem with is a digital only Future which is what the big companies like Google, EA etc want.

Physical game stops selling at shops, just buy it second hand, developer/publisher gets no money.
Digital game stops selling on digital store fronts, just download pirate version, developer/publisher gets no money.

No different whether you choose physical or digital.

While true the pirate version carries risk. Viruses are a hazard of shopping at the bay. Additionally there is the problem that persistent legal action and blocking of torrent sites means fewer people are seeding TPB releases which is causing some to become simply unavailable, that frustrating state where one guy has 83% of it but you can't get the rest.

A digital only future would be terrible, a streaming only future would be even worse. If the industry moves to streaming only, I'm honestly done with the industry.
I'm more than happy with buying games on Steam and PSN store where I can for myself but everyone should be able to choose for themselves where and how they want to purchase their games.

Because that game was a demo and free. Sony never will delist a game who people paid (psn plus, micro transaction, etc)
You obviously didn't "buy" driveclub!

Anyway, this is beside the point, the point is: You are no longer in control of what you "owned", it can be taken from you at any time (most often when some content licensing ends).
