Dudebro II QA Tester Recruitment Thread - Accepting Applicants

Dacvak

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Are you a Dude enough Bro to help make our game?

We're currently assembling Team A for our Dudebro Quality Assurance testing brigade, or "The Brosquad". We will be initially accepting 10 to 20 applicants. Once the initial batch is filled, we'll be temporarily closing our gates until we're ready for a second batch of testers. Testing a game and being part of a team is certainly fun, but it's also a great deal of work, so only serious GAF members need apply.

Applicant Requirements:
  • Must be a regularly active GAF Member
  • Must have or be willing to get both a Gmail and Google Wave account (We have invites)
  • Must have good written communication skills
  • Must be willing to dedicate around an hour a day on testing and reporting
  • Must have a computer and browser capable of running the Unity Web Player

If you meet these requirements and would like to sign up to become a part of The Brosquad, please reply in this thread with both of the following:
  1. List any past experience you have in testing games.
  2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
  3. What's your favorite pizza topping?

It's straight-up dawg time.

Don't have enough time to help but my favourite pizza topping is the 7 Meats, because how many more types can you fit on? Plus it's manly.

1. Various beta testing roles in god knows how many games over the years (including a whole bunch of UT/2004 mods).

2. I was in mother fucking Broback Mountain. Nuff said.

3. Toppings are for girls.

I'm already in the QA wave, do I have to apply through this as well?
No, you're in. But you still need to sign in on the excel page in the top post with your info.

1. I used to code for a MUD, and part of that involved finding new and exciting ways to make the game crash. Of course, it also involved figuring out exactly why the MUD was crashing. Beyond that, I haven't done any formal game testing.

2. Making video games has been a lifelong dream of mine--one I ditched years ago when I realized that being married and spending time with my friends and family were more important than having my name on the credits of something (Phoenix, wherever you are, thank you for helping me reflect and make that decision). This opportunity would bring me a step closer to fulfilling that dream. Plus, I am insanely detail oriented so I know that I will provide useful feedback.

3. The tears of the unworthy. No, seriously, I don't have a single pizza topping, but a very tasty combo is jalapenos and pineapple. The sweetness and tartness of the pineapple are just heavenly with the rich spice of the jalapeno. Add some pepperoni in there if your inner carnivore isn't satisfied. Yum yum.

  3. What's your favorite pizza topping?

It's straight-up dawg time.
1. I was not a pro tester but i was considered one for Urban Warfare mod for quake 3. Was playing as they figured out stuff like breaking a window crashed the server. I have also played mmos which is like testing. I've never done any release type QA so look elsewhere for that stuff guys.

2. I would be a great addition to the Brosquad because I know when it is time to straight up shoot or slice a dawg. I do not know the project that well but I think you are shooting for a type of game that I would like to play so it would not be a chore at all to do this for you an hour a day, or a couple hours one day with a day off.

3. Pineapple, but only on day old pizza from the fridge. On fresh, tomotos(goes good with any meat and other veggie)

1. Never tested a videogame

2. For years, I've been trying to make my own game, but was too lazy. Now I'm in the mood to do something I always wanted to do. Always wanted to get into the game development in some form. It will be an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge on how a game works. I may not have experience, but I can learn.

3. pepperoni

1. Outside of public betas, I have little experience testing games. My most experience was as a Online Create/Water Beta tester for LittleBigPlanet.

2. I'd be a great addition because I fulfill all the requirements and I actually want to help out with this game if possible. I find the premise of the game hilarious, interesting and well I think I'd be able to give some good, sensible feedback.

3. Hawaiian (Canadian bacon and pineapple zomg).

The only problem with my application is that I may not be able to do an hour everyday. Hopefully, though. Consider that.

1. Not a whole lot. Briefly worked on a couple of group mods that didnt go anywhere, but did get in the original multiplayer beta for FarCry. Have some experience with mapping in UE and Hammer, and have thus 'tested' my own maps. Mostly Hammer, and for HL2.

2. I'm a bro enough dude. Also, I like top down shooters, I like silliness, and the overall serious business tone of modern games has gotten old. There's not enough pure, stupid fun where everything is taken to the X-TREME. I'd get a kick out of not only getting my hands on Dudebro II, but also knowing I'm contributing to making the final product the best it can be.

3. Anything with eggplant, old Italian style wood fire overn cooked. MMMMM.

I can write a bit and can complain with the best of them about broken stuff.

1. Never.

2. Because. I have a bitchin as computer. I want to be part of something bigger.

3. Marinara.

1) List any past experience you have in testing games.
Never tested a game, but would love to.

2) Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
I like to see things from an analytical point of view, games included. I'm a mathematician, and I think this has helped developing this skills.
On the other hand, I'd like to contribute to this awesome project, and I'd also like to add this experience to my CV, since I'm willing to enter the industry in the fields of AI or modelling, but having a hard time.

3) What's your favorite pizza topping?
Goat cheese, honey, nuts. Yay!

Wow, the Dudebro project is getting very serious now. I could have been a programmer or art designer on day one with zero credentials but now a resume is required to be a QA Tester. I just do not think I have the stuff.

pretty much. :lol

Super-excited about this!

1.) I had 136 Hours from Guild Wars beta weekends before the game even went to retail. I was also in the beta for Section 8, Age of Conan and Warhammer Online plus a large plethora of online mmo's and first person shooters I can't remember because they weren't bro enough for me.

2.) I love my dudebro's, seriously. I also have copious amounts of free time at the moment. No job and out of school tends to help with that. I also think I'm a pretty good gamer so going brolo is no problem for me. I've beaten DMC3 on hard. I've also beaten every CoD game on veteran. I also run created the Gaf Hip Hop thread and I don't know about you, but the rap industry is a pretty brocentric genre and game. My bro achievements are there intact. Not hiring me for the job is pretty uncool and definitely not something true bros would do.

3.) Everyone bro knows that bacon makes everything better. Bacon & onions.

I'm in, I've tested a billion MMOs, from WOW original-all it's expacs. Every PSN/360 beta I could get in on.

I'd be a good tester, because I love the idea of the game, I love games in general, and I love polished games even more.

Favorite pizza topping: Meat.

1. I've participated in several betas like SCCT SvM Beta, Crysis MP Beta
Shattered Horizon Beta and Company of Heroes and few more.
The reason My list is diverse, is because I a man of diverse genres, I don't care about
genre as long as the game is fun.

2. Like I tossed above, I think that because I've had past experience with testing games
and I like quality games of diverse range,so I believe that my opinion matters.

3. Cajun Chicken.

1. List any past experience you have in testing games.
Ive participated in many betas although most if not all have been for online games i still know what goes down with reporting bugs, and i do report the problems i see.

Betas i have been in.
little big planet, uncharted2, Mag, battlefield bad company[1+2], Resistance 2, PSHome, modnation racers, Dragonica, AION, ZOMG (that gaia mmo)

2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.

well like i listed before i have done a good bit of testing. I report the issues i can find, Have a pretty easy going schedule (2 days of school only). Have been following the project since before i was even a member and i already have Gmail, wave, aim, msn and pretty much all the major other IMs

3. What's your favorite pizza topping?
my favorite pizza has to be New York-style pizza. :)

1. BF2142,BF2142, BFBC, BFBC2 NS, BFH, WiC, MAG, ZOMG, LBP some I'm not allowed to talk about
2. I have played games for many years for fun and competitively I love all types of games and I have tested many many games in the past helping with bug reports and suggestions. I am also studying programming for game development.
3. 7 Meats Pizza with Tomato sauce

I have google wave

This could be interesting!

1) never been testing game, does Fallen Empire Legions open beta counts?

2) probably i won't be.

3) don't have any in particular, but as italian i feel offended but some toppings listed, what the hell guys

Is there any other way?

1. Not in QA, but as a programmer/game designer at university I worked on a game and was involved in various degrees of testing as well as building testing calls within the code. Sorta black box/white box kinda stuff rather than what will be done here. So never done UAT, or anything like that.

2. I built a shrine to Jon St. John. It features a blunt, headset for shouting racial abuse on MW2/Halo 3, 6 bottles of bear and a Duke Nukem poster laid on the ground pointed directly toward Mecca (3D Realms). Also I have gmail, and would like a Wave invite. I like the game, from what I've played so far... And I wish I'd made a contribution at an earlier time.

3. New York style, all day.

This needs to be made into a reality TV show.

That said, I'd love to do some QA. I can't say I have any amazing credentials, but I play a lot of video games.

Do you accept 3D Modelers? :P

I know how to do a bit of 3D (used to make Sims 1 meshes and Sims 2 objects)

Excited to apply! Also, has any awareness of the game been spread to blogs like TIGSource? I'd be happy to do that and with St John on board it'll be interesting.

1. List any past experience you have in testing games.
I've never had a job testing games professionally, but the games biz is something I'd like to get into. I've had one opportunity to "closed-beta" test a game, but these positions were fluff since most participants weren't willing to report bugs and issues and just wanted to play. I'd like to think I can offer more as a Brosquaddie! Unity/Unreal Engine game creation is something my university course tinkers with.

2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
I would be an awesome member of the Brosquad because even when I talk the talk I'm fully prepared to listen and learn from other testers in the squad. In short, I try to be a pro.

3. What's your favorite pizza topping?
All of them! How about that for throwing subtlety out of the window?

Ed: Oh! I've already attempted to sign up for Google Wave, but my typical usernames have been taken up. I'll need advice for manly handles to use!

- Have been playing games all my life and participated in many betas - more recently, LBP, Warhawk, and Metal Gear Online. I work at a software company and although not a gaming firm, I do participate in QA as part of my role. My degree is in communications and I pride myself on problem solving and being able to articulate in different ways what developers and engineers are thinking. I also have a heavy penchant for delicious keg lager and women with questionable morals.

-Bros. Dudes. We're surrounded by them. I was in a fraternity and have years of meaty, truculent dudebro debauchery under my belt. The experience is still fresh in my mind so I can provide not only meaningful gaming experience, but critical Dudebro insight from the front lines. I am the nexus of dudes, bros, facial hair, natty lite, and gaming.

-It doesn't matter what's on it. Just make sure you get the super deluxe deal with the wings included. Get 30 Honey BBQ flavored wings and the remaining 20 buffalo, for variety. Chicks love variety. Make sure to ask for extra bleu cheese. That way we'll have enough for now, later, and after watching that bootleg copy of avatar with some OG kush. The crossover calzones are also bomb.

1. Worked on The Beatles: Rock Band, The Godfather 2, Rock Band Unplugged and Mass Effect 2 as a linguistics tester, participated in nearly all big betas (Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, Diablo 2, Resistance 2, Bad Company 2. etc. pp.)

2. I adhere strictly to the bro code, and I am a dude -- which I can prove if the need arises. Apart from that I have a good eye for detail and I think I know what makes a good game good (and a bad game bad). Also, obviously, I have some experience in the field.

3. Garlic. Pizza without garlic is boring. :lol

I already have both gmail and gwave, so that should be a plus.

1. My experience testing games amounts to betas (both public and closed) including but not limited to: Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Littlebigplanet, CoD: World at War, and more.

2. I was there from the beginning of the Imagine Babiez thread and I'm not a fuckin casual.

3. Can beer be a favorite pizza topping?

Random question from an ex-QA guy: who's managing your QA process? Testplan creation, smoketest regressions, compiling playtest feedback, etc.

Dentoomw and myself are co-managing the QA department. The other project leads are offering support, as well.

Remember guys, don't forget your favourite pizza topping. That may be the most important piece of information on your resume!

1. Never.

2. I've been playing games since the Atari days. I like to pay attention to things like level design, the flow of a game, and how much fun it is. Today's games and their open world design irks me. It like the designers just randomly threw a bunch of crap together without careful thought into how you move through it. A game like Zelda prevents you can going somewhere until you've solved a puzzle or something, and intricate design allows for you to backtrack to that spot you want easily. I think lackluster level design also can affect the flow of the game. You would end up going through periods of boredom with nothing to do or pointlessly long walks. There are other ways the flow of a game can negatively impact the enjoyment of a game as well. Fun is hard to define, but I think a controller in my hand and a smile on my face is a good start.

3. Shrimp.

Since I missed out in getting really involved before...

List any past experience you have in testing games.
I did a small stint in QA for Square-Enix in 2001 with Kingdom Hearts 2 before I left for the military. Recently it's been LittleBigPlanet/ModNation Racers on top of others I cannot disclose due to NDA.

Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
Dude, not only do I pop my colla' all day every day, I'm also working on the LBP version of Dudebro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVxj1_qg4UI (which helped spawn the brobots and brodiocity meter in DBII)

On top of that, I work as a safety coordinator for our Performance Improvement at a local hospital, so I have a deep understanding of quality assurance in regards to stringent state and federal regulations. Although I do have a busy schedule, I always make time for mah bros. Plus I was an airborne medic back in my time in the Army, so I know what dawg time is all 'bout. >=)

I also have gmizzle, fo shizzle, and a Mac/PC.

What's your favorite pizza topping?
Bacon, mushrooms, and artery clogging, chest hair growing sauce (garlic butter)

Bros before hos.

1. List any past experience you have in testing games.
I've been part of many of the betas that Xbox Live have held like Endwar, Halo, Call of Duty, the various dashboard betas etc
2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
For me, every time is straight up dawg time. This has made me late for many things in my life and it would be a shame to get in so much trouble for it over the years and then not being part of something when it actually is straight up dawg time.
3. What's your favorite pizza topping?
Chicken. Chicken makes any pizza better.

You may want to be specific with your requests for testing experience. Plenty of people have participated in betas yet didn't do anything beyond play the game - no feedback given, no bugs reported, etc.

1) No experience. I mean sure, I play games but this is GAF, everyone plays games. This closest thing I can think of for beta testing is a couple of bugs I found.

This glitch right here is called tweaking. Although not my video I am the one who discovered it. Some also refer to it as "Holepunching" simply because of my username.

This glitch I did not find first (at least I doubt it) but I did find it when I was around 10, with no guidem no internet or any outside sources. I don't know what compelled me to jump at that wall until I fell through but it happened.

2) Why would I make a good addition to the brosquad? Well, I am a big fan of macho bullshit games. Dudebro reminds me of the top-down section of Contra III and something akin to that is LONG OVERDUE. I'm currently majoring in Computer Science so I know enough about programming to get by. In fact the only reason I'm not volunteering to help make this is my inexperience in programming anything that isn't a tutorial to learn programming. I will gladly tell you of great detail any bugs I find and give my honest opinion on gameplay and possible tweaks and suggestions.

3) Ham. Pineapple coming in a close second.

It's straight-up dawg time.

  1. List any past experience you have in testing games.

I used to beta test a lot of MMOs, have beta tested several games of my own design (made using Game Maker, etc), and other people's.

  2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.

Walking through the jungle, covered in head to toe of mud, where the antelopes DON'T play, and the Bros call home, Maxrpg has slogged through the most meaty parts of the jungle. Where it's not even meaty anymore, it's BEEFCAKE-Y. With his special gun called MANFIST, which upon shooting it delivers a fistbump so powerful it can only be called "FUCKIN' A". Also he really enjoys top-down shooters. RAR!

  3. What's your favorite pizza topping?

    Manpperoni and Bromatos.

It's straight-up dawg time.

1. List any past experience you have in testing games.
Some random beta´s like Uncharted, MAG and BFBC2. Official testing on BFBC2 PS3 beta through CombatTesting.
2. Write a small paragraph about why you'd be a great addition to The Brosquad.
Because i'm efficient, resourceful, persistent and have been playing awesome games since ´83 so i know my stuff.
3. What's your favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni and 9mm Bullets

  3. What's your favorite pizza topping?

It's straight-up dawg time.

1) I don't really have any experience testing games outside of public betas.

2) I think I would be a great addition to The Brosquad because I'll be running and playing the game on an older laptop (G4 12-inch Powerbook) and would love to see how the game actually performs on the hardware. Also, I'm very honest and try to convey my thoughts as clearly and concisely as I can.

3) Pepperoni, Italian sausage and bacon.

1. I don't have much beta experience except for public betas like COD: WaW, AvP, etc.

2. What do you have to lose by adding another beta tester?

3. Bacon & Pineapple. Hell yeah.

1) I was a tester for a MM fangame known as "Megaman 21XX". Look it up, it DOES exist on some body's archives! :lol Have participated for betas for other companies over the years, too.

2) Well, I have a great sense of humor, and I have habit for playing games in an unorthodox fashion. You want to make sure your game is "balanced"? You might appreciate having some body who thinks outside the box for playing games too! :D

3) Pepperoni, Onions, Green Peppers and Jalapenos. Don't forget the garlic butter for dipping! :D

  1. I really don't have much beyond participating in some game betas (Halo 3, COD4, COD:WaW, Uncharted 2, MAG) and I realize that there wasn't all that much testing going on on the players' end for those games. I used to program some games for my calculator in high school when I got board, and did all the testing myself.
  2. I've wanted to work in the industry for years and am currently pursuing a Computer Science major to do just that. I'd love to get a taste, no matter how small, of the game making process.
  3. I am but a simple man. I love that humble, decades-long staple of the pizza business: the pepperoni.
