Looked kind of underwhelming to be honest but I'm excited for some of the performances in this one, particularly Mark Rylance. I think why it looked underwhelming to me is that I kept getting reminded of Hacksaw Ridge's trailer which was damn good.

this trailer was much worse. damn good war movie though, first half is schmaltzy and romantic and the second half is the scariest horror movie of the year. Andrew Garfield is an MVP.

edit: Atonement was great, Joe Wright's best for sure. I love the shots in this trailer but I think it's definitely missing some dirt and grit here. They all look pristine and then you see Atonement's beach scene and it's a dirtier mess.

oddly disjointed trailer towards the end but two things:

- the cinematography is freaking beautiful. hoyte gonna bring the competition for sure next year

- zimmer's soundtrack sounds so dope. not what i expected for this movie, sounds like something more modern synth based. kinda glitchy, like johnny greenwood.

Lol, was gonna say the exact same things.
Oddly confused trailer, but the movie looks and sounds stunning.

Man I've been dying for this trailer and Alien Covenant... Glad to see I'm not the only one that felt a bit "meh" after finally seeing some footage of this film. Really hope it ends up being looked at as just a poor trailer in the end.

I don't think that trailer does that great of a job selling you on the movie outside of the cinematography/score, but I'm excited nonetheless. Always there day 1 for Nolan films.

As someone who usually reacts with positive hyperbole to anything directed by Nolan...

I didn't feel this trailer. I only watch his trailers once though, so this is the impression I have to hold onto for several months.

It's kind of a cliched trailer, I'll give you that but it packed a punch and it had a hook. This Dunkirk trailer is weirdly paced and something feels off about it for some reason. Whatever though, it's just a trailer in the end.

As for Hacksaw Ridge, yes, that is a damn good film. Andrew Garfield definitely surprised me but Mel's direction didn't. Dude just got it.

Cant remember the last time I felt nothing at a Nolan trailer.

Actually, I'm fairly certain that this is the first time.

Don't know what a lot of you are seeing, I thought that was fantastic. I could feel the weight of the situation in every shot. Admittedly, it's been awhile since my last WWII film, so maybe it's feeling novel again. That sequence of the plane flying overhead and everyone calling a second run...I could feel the helplessness.

Incredible stuff if you ask me.

Come on Nolan, I want bodies flying.

Why not. We have seen now one teaser and one trailer and both of them have moments like this. I saw this when i watched the trailer for the first time. Abit baffled that Nolan thinks this is oke really.

There's not one film that doesn't have a bunch of errors like this. Fuck, there's an entire shitty Youtube channel devoted to these things.

Here's their video on Fury Road. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBT4RmjFg_c

If something requires a frequently-looping gif that removes sound and context to be able to spot an error than that's a job well-done for the filmmakers.

I'm talking about the allied side.
The French did most of the fighting and they were the ones who fought the german as the British evacuated (and a lot of them ended being stranded there).
Yeah, but you can't properly tell the story of Dunkirk without also showing the Germans and talking about all the challenges they faced. We shouldn't let Guderian get away with his exaggerations!

That's definitely a Zimmer score.

Just FYI, the vast majority of the time, music for movie trailers comes from a trailer music library. Especially early trailers like this. So it's very unlikely that the music in this trailer is actually from the score. It could be possible, but it's not likely.

Yeah, I don't understand complaining about this shit. All films are illusions, unless it's incredibly obvious I don't see an issue. I would have never noticed that if it wasn't for the looping gif.

It's a Nolan movie, the trailer music is the score

That tracking shot in Atonement is some impressive looking stuff, but I also feel like it's exactly the kind of tracking-shot-for-the-sake-of-tracking-shot that people do to flex their muscles and not because there's some deeper reason to it.

Did he say why he wanted it that way?

It's not a satisfying explanation. :lol Just a lot about wanting to use sound in an unfamiliar, experimental way that people aren't used to in blockbusters.

What I liked on the other movies from Nolan was the crazy plots.
See him doing a regular war movie it's a big disappointment.

I was expecting that something on this trailer would maybe make me change my mind, but no

Can you really say this without watching the whole movie?

I guess those abit better hidden then. This one stands out way to easy just like the one in the teaser that it complety becomes unrealistic. And if i already see that as a non expert they need to see that also.
And its not the first time Nolan has terrible action.

Not Nolan movies, that's definitely Zimmer.

I have seen the whole movie. Although not that recently.

I love Atonement but it was distracting. It's a well done scene at the end of the day but I think many directors have done tracking shots at the films expense now just to impress us with a technical detail.

Innaritu is the worst with it imo. I can no longer be immersed by the scene when it's happening.

Didn't do anything for me but I'm not familiar with the story, which is odd since it's advertised as the event that shaped our world unless they are talking about WW2 in general. Zimmers score is sounding awesome though.

I've lost enthusiasm for Nolan the past few years and admittedly still haven't watched Interstellar. All of his recent projects seem to have these large budgets and look extremely bloated in more than just runtime. I wish he'd scale it back a bit and do something on the level of Memento or The Prestige again. Maybe I shouldn't complain, there's not many director's that can make big budget original productions while having full support of the studios nowadays.

Birdman was distracting as all shit in this department lol.

What an overrated movie.

I mean you can see it's deliberate. The way the horses are lined up and the jeeps are lined up and the slow pan through the choir singing - and when you notice that stuff it stops your suspension of disbelief a bit. But I would still prefer an artsy five minute tracking shot than some exposition dialogue about how their stranded on this hopeless beach or something.

Except for Nolan films usually these things don't require zooming in, slow mo views to spot. He really does boring/lazy action sequences in his movies, his fights always lack any feeling of impact or realism. He's bad at action directing

Sigh Nolan.

What am i seeing that's sigh worthy here? People ducking after an explosion?
I'm far from a Nolan fan, but this kind of shit is a bit sad, especially since it makes up a lot of modern "movie critique" on the internet.

Like, are people more interested in pointing out (real or otherwise) small continuity errors and a couple of extras out of place, rather than engage a movie on a deeper level?

That was a pretty perfect teaser trailer. It does such a great job at giving you a taste of the tone and message of the movie, without giving much away.

Regarding Dunkirk, it looks to have some good set pieces in it, but it is missing its own message and doesn't really have much substance. That said, I haven't seen a Chris Nolan movie which I didn't enjoy, so I expect this to be great as well.
