Durango/next Xbox controller currently covered in stripes; similar to X360 controller

You would have to make sure to do a damn good job if you tried.

Not really, if you have another source (dev) that can tell you what theirs looks like, you can make enough modifications to the image to make it indistinguishable from all others.

Fan of retro gaming? I prefer my thumb to fall naturally on the left stick, not the D-pad.

The 360 pad is the best controller out there, one of the main reasons why the 360 was far and away my main/only console this gen. The dualshock is and other reasons why I still don't have my mind made up about next gen 100% yet, I want to jump ship but that Sony controller and online integration of services is lacking.

Don't make the Durango controller smaller MS! WTF?

I also like having rechargeable batteries, not a fan of internal battery solutions.

The way it's described reminds me of how the C7 Corvette was disguised (the paint under the coverings to mask the details, like camo, or zebra pattern).

Well Microsoft had the luxury of designing their controller after dual sticks were the norm. Sony had to find a place to tack theirs own initially. For the time it worked. Why they haven't updated it since is simply mind-boggling.

The only place the 360 controller could lose some size and not be a detriment (to me) is in the fatness of the bottom handles. Otherwise making it smaller is not a welcome change. Current dual shock is way too small, but Sony wisely made it bigger for PS4. Don't go too small, MS.

Oh god, please no internal battery.

Agreed. Do not want. Been using the same 6 rechargeables this entire generation.

Do want: Get rid of the idiotic blinking when the controller hits 50 percent battery drain.

There's this thing called photoshop...I can keep any wannabe leaker safe with it if they like.

Add me to the NO INTERNAL BATTERY list. Being able to have rechargeables ready 24/7 is the best!

Fix the D-pad! Put in a built in battery! Have it connectable to the console like the PS3 controller!

But otherwise the 360 controller is god like. I can't stand the PS1/2/3 controller.

Why built in battery? You can charge the 360 controller battery by connecting it to the system , by external charger or by regular AA batteries.

I play with a chatpad just to make the controller bigger. This is troubling.

Same here. Even the original 360 controller is too small IMO and I need to use the chatpad to play it comfortably.

Just fix the shitty d-pad MS, that's all you really needed to do.
Since apparently making it bigger wasn't an option =/

Tell you, like in sending you a picture of theirs? Doesn't sound like something that is easily described over the phone. I mean, sure it can be done but why risk it? I don't know what MS would do to the company responsible for leaking but I doubt they'll just shrug their shoulders.

I've got rechargeable batteries I've been using since 2005 in my 360 controllers, love being able to flip those babies in and out when the controllers die. I have 20 rechargeable batteries right now.

They just sold 6 million copies of Minecraft. I'm guessing many of those were for little kids. Going bigger was probably never part of the plan.

I know. Why would anyone want a downgrade to a built in battery?

Tell, yes, tell.

"Mine has some black stripes on the front, kind of curly, I'd say, on the back [...] Oh, and the shape is exactly how you described it."

So, photoshop the stripes off, or even just smudge them to make them indistinguishable from any other stripe pattern that could've been on them.

Photoshop isn't difficult to use, and it's rather easy to rid yourself of those types of things.

No new D-pad? Really? That's easily the worst D-pad out there right now.

Eh, too bad about the stick placement. I don't really mind that much either way but the standard offset sticks always struck me as odd. I think MS did it just to differentiate, much like other weird decisions they have made (control transport on the bottom of the Media Player comes to mind.)

Not really expecting any big changes with this controller, considering "I am the controller", heh.

It's more convenient. With AAs you need to make sure you keep a few ready in the charger. Since pretty much all the new consoles will charge while sleeping, I'd rather it was all integrated.

are your hands not symmetrical?
What's that got to do with anything?

When I pick up a controller, I want my thumbs to fall naturally on the primary controls. I don't give a shit about symmetrical sticks. I care about the controller being comfortable to use and not turning my hands into lobster claws.

Wasn't the dpad pretty much fixed with a later revision? I never got to play with it but I remember reading about some sort of clicking shenanigans.

Say whatever you want about some recent MS choices but the 360 controller with a better dpad would literally be the best videogame controller ever designed.

Edit: Seriously, as someone that did not play with a Dual Shock in more than 10 years and got a Vita recently, that thing gives me serious cramps after 1h or so. Guess it's a battery saving mode.

If there really is no touchpad, that means cross-platform titles may not make much use of the DS4's. It might end up like Sixaxis for the most part.
I wonder if they at least increased the sensitivity to 10-bit...

That's clever leak deterrence. But I guess an enterprising sort could just photoshop it away?

Edit: already being discussed. It's still kind of cool, although maybe a bit overboard.

I don't think it matters. If the touchpad is implemented well, it will get a lot of use regardless of the Xbox having it. If the Touchpad proves to be as useless as Sixaxis was, it won't get used.

Name a better reason

Because Sony's too lazy to improve the ergonomics of their controller. Or too scared to change it out of fear that people will hate it. That's not necessarily a better reason, just a more truthful and accurate reason.

I get that some people don't like the stick placement, but it certainly wasn't arbitrary. When Xbox was released, d-pad was no longer the primary control method so they put the stick where the d-pad always was. The dualshock is the controller that actually changes the traditional layout, and thats just because it was introduced created in the PS1 era as an optional method

It turned from the worst d-pad of all time to just the worst d-pad on any current gaming system.

Considering all the changes made to the DS4, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Too bad that they weren't more scared -- maybe then they wouldn't have downgraded to concave sticks.
