Dying Light, FP survival horror open world, WB/Techland, 2014, PC/PS360/PS4/XB1

Is this the first WBIE published game since the Wii U released to not be announced for Wii U?

Are they going to put that all-in-one entertainment bullshit in every press release?

Ign have a video about it.

Had some pictures of the game I didn't see before.

God I'm so happy to see "next gen platforms" disappear so we don't have the do the Wii U dance anymore.

Also I'm willing to try and give these guys another chance.

I frankly prefer it to this: "the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft" in every press release.

Totilo's opinion:

All of this happens with the added twist that you can do parkour across rooftops. It's a pity WBIE hasn't released video of the game yet, because that's the "wow" element here—the experience of running from zombies across rooftops with the grace and speed not seen since DICE's beloved free-running game Mirror's Edge is the thing that makes it special.

Dying Light is set for a 2014 release. Keep an eye out for video footage. I initially rolled my eyes at the sight of yet another zombie game, but the free-running really does make this game look special.

Anything with a movement system similar to Mirror's Edge gets me interested. I love parkour in games so much my god.

I liked dead island till it deleted my save game with a patch.

Also riptide is a technical disaster, no 75 or 85 hz support and so much mouse lag I'd rather not play it at all.

Looks next-gen enough to me :)

I've never played the Dead Island games, but doesn't the lighting in this already look a lot better? Especially in the environment shots?

Got this confused with Daylight (Zombie Studio).

If it wasn't Techland, I'd be incredibly excited by the concept. In before disappointment.

I like Techland. I just hated the dead island games.

I love mirrors edge so I'm interested to see where this goes.

The fact is focuses a lot on LOOTING and SURVIVING alone makes it better than 80% of previous zombies/ infected games. Plus it is open world which is a very big plus.

This is great news AND WHAT zombie games should be like IMO, about surviving and looting in a open world.

Cant wait, will want to see some gameplay but still hyped!

The location doesn't look that good IMO, one time I would want it to be in a US city with country side...

Hope the movement and gameplay is not as slow and slugging as DI too.

Some of you gotta look PAST the part were it says infected. So much more to it then that.

DICE should do this game. Would be just perfect. Instead of rehashing a BF game every once in a while.

I love Mirror's Edge and I love zombies. But I don't really love Techland.

The Dead Island games are some of my favorites this Gen. So this will definitely get me on board early next Gen.

Looks like it could be really really good. If the zombies are as aggressive as your ability to free-run then that could make for a lot of tense moments.

Ehh, I really hate how everyone keeps calling their games "survival" when there's never any actual surviving going on.

Give me a game where the main character needs to eat and sleep that is focused more around escaping and sneaking/hiding rather than actual combat. Make it an open-world game set in a big city instead of a boring resort island, with a deep underground sewer system that runs below the entire city so you can choose to travel above or below.

I picture the gameplay to be similar to ZombiU. Weapons-wise I want it to be similar to Condemned: Criminal Origin where you find random debris and rare guns with barely any ammo in them. No on-screen maps or compasses and the only way to have a map or compass is to find one within an actual store. The only thing your characters starts with is a notebook and pencil which you can use to make your own journal or take down important notes for later, or scribble on your found map to keep track of where you're going and where you've been. No quests or trackers. Very good zombie and mutant AI, with random movement/attack patterns that you can't learn, to be genuinely feared by the player.

That's my idea of the "perfect" survival horror game.

But as far as this game is concerned, I'm kind of interested. I'll wait until I can see some gameplay footage.

That's very interesting. Riptide bummed me out a bit (not because it's just more DI, because I love DI), so this is neat.

I hope it's hardly like Dead Island. I loved the gameplay but the story sucked ass. The characters were horrible, too. I hope this does everything right.

You seriously need to play MIASMATA. Its like Far Cry 2 (first person map and stuff in hands) without the combat.

Even though its on an island, its everything you could hope for. You collect plants and have to medicine and various stuff out of them. You have a notebook, its got an old Victorian Robinson Crusoe feel, but with murder and amnesia. Quite the intense and unique game. You have to triangulate positions on a map with your compass, any geography nerds would love this. Also, day/night cycle, and things hunt you at night like a panther creature.

Even walking up hills, you need to worry about momentum.

Techland themselves were saying that Riptide was Dead Island 1.5. This has the promise to be the next big thing for the series, even though it's not Dead Island. And to be honest I'm glad it's not Dead Island. I prefer a more serious tone, and Dying Light could deliver in that respect. As far as the parkour goes - I'm keeping an open mind, but would prefer it not be there. The tension of the survival vibe they're going for could suffer. Hopefully Techland learned their lessons from previous titles. If Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, an amazing game for PSN/XBLA standards in my opinion, is any indication, Dying Light doesn't necessarily have to suck.
