Dynasty Warriors Official Character Popularity Poll

Can't vote without facebook, but probably would've gone for:

Wei: Zhenji, Jia Xu, Wang Yi
Shu: Xu Shu, Guan Yinping, Zhuge Liang
Wu: Lu Meng, Xiaoqiao, Daqiao
Other: Lu Lingqi, Zhang Jiao, Dong Bai
Jin: Guo Huai, Zhang Chunhua‎‎, Wang Yuanji

Most of the characters' personalities are eh, so I tend to favour the ones I enjoy playing most.

Back when I first started playing these games, with DW2 I was Wu all the way, now I really can't think of many I like. So I went with Papa Sun Jian, Sun Quan representing for middle children, and Lu Meng cause he takes down Guan Yu

Sun Jian was the first character I played in a demo station at an EBs boutique, so he's an easy pick.

Sun ShangXiang is my waifu <3

And Zhou Tai. He has a samurai sword.

Sun Quan
Huang Gai
Taishi Ci

Sun ShangXiang gets on my last fucking nerve, and I couldn't even tell you why. She brings out an irrational hate inside me xD Probably because she was super annoying every time I fought against Wu soldiers in past DW games.

Damn, missed the first two. Just in time for Wu though, which features a ton of my least-liked characters by far. Too many tight form-fitting costumes for the men and women. I voted for Lianshi, who I do actually like (she was my first completely-maxed out character last time I used her, which was in WO3 on Xbone; that crossbow is beastly), Zhou Tai (he's got cool costumes and I like his style), and Taishi Ci (cool-looking).

As a fan of Wu pre-6 I feel like voting old favourites. Zhou Yu, Sun Ce, Taishi Ci but really I only like Sun Xian Shang after the redesigns.

On my votes:

Lu Meng
I was never a fan of pre-6 Lu Meng but he's great now. He had the only decent design in 6 and I like the focus he now gets. (I also like that he gets to kill Guan Yu's ass)

Ding Feng
My favorite Wu newcomer. His dumb poetry shtick and his appearance/moveset in DW7 are great. I didn't like the dumb hula hoop moveset in DW8 though.

Zhou Tai
He's just great. He's only gotten cooler as time has gone on (though nothing touches his sick DW4 outfit) and he's the only Wu character (to me) that is still just as cool as in the PS2 days.

Runner Ups
Lianshi, Taishi Ci
Just from a gameplay standpoint. Lianshi is pure MURDER in WO3U. Taishi Ci was also always fun to use against friends when the series still had Versus models.

Gan Ning
He just ain't as cool as he used to be. I've never liked the rivalry with Ling Tong (I much preferred when he had one against Zhang Liao) and like with Zhou Tai, he's never looked as good as he did in 4. Also have not been a fan of the weapon jumping he's had.

Huang Gai
He was the first character I tried in my first DW demo, so I have a special place in my heart for him. At the same time, I've really disliked him since 6, especially the stupid weapons he's always getting. I hope he's getting de-aged in DW9.

Lu Bu
Zhurong
n/a

That's my list. I haven't played a game with Lu Bu's daughter of Chen Gong yet (they haven't released one for 360 or Xbone with either of them in it, I believe) and I don't care for most of the other "Other" characters.

Voted:
Lu Bu
Zuo Ci
Chen Gong

Lu Bu was my only instant vote.

Zuo Ci was cooler in DW5 imo with his moveset, I didn't like how he played in DW8. He's also useful in WO3U with his ridiculous damage musou/air special.

With Chen Gong, I just picked Chen Gong because of his moveset. I always wanted something like Sun Tzu using the Art of War to summon attacks in a Warriors Orochi game, Chen Gong is close enough.

I don't really like the other Others characters.

I despise Lu Bu, such a boring character.

At least he's always OP in the games and therefore, is at least fun to use, even if he can be kinda one note at times

Having to use the rapier with Yuan Shao or those throwing knives with Zhurong just makes me hate the characters (even if they're actually kinda cool/interesting beyond their moveset)

Good point

Zuo Ci: I always liked this crazy bastard.
Zhu Rong: She is awesome.
Chen Gong: He's a fun character, also voiced by a fellow GAFfer I believe.

Lu Bu
Zuo Ci
Zhu Rong

Want to pick Lu Lingqi sorta but they changed her to sword and board???? Why? Spear and board like old Xingcai even but sword and board? Get out.

Went with

Yuan Shao (mostly for his pre-6 incarnations though. Lord of overt snootiness I am not a fan of. Preferred the Chinese King Arthur design too.)
Zhang Jiao (Always entertaining, and that last level of his story in DW5 was excellent)
Cheng Gong (Brains behind Lu Bu's operation, if only he would listen.)

Zhu Rong was a close fourth

Why do you guys like Pang Tong?

Historically or in-game?

He's a righteous dude.

I don't know much about the actual history of these people/characters, so I guess it's a combo of personality, voice work, plus typically distinctive and interesting costumes and movesets (aside from when he was cloned).

He's a breath of fresh air versus some of the stuffier or more obsessive Shus.

I like him historically and in the RotTK story, because of him being an intelligent strategist. Liu Bei being told "Hidden Dragon and Young Phoenix. If you can get either of them, you'll be able to pacify the empire" definitely gives Pang Tong's name some hype. I don't care for him in the games though; I dislike his fighting style and outfits/design.

The one faction that got both was the first to fall, so blah with that. Lololol

Gonna have to wait until I get to a computer to toss out a vote

Idk anything about historical Three Kingdoms tbh

He's cool in-game. Like someone else said, he's a nice contrast to the rest of Shu. He's as hyped up as Zhuge Liang but a thousand times less annoying (seriously gtfo with that 'this was all part of my plan' bullshit, just hold that L).

Also he's basically a wizard (I like wizards) and I've always liked how he's played. I think I actually unlocked Lu Bu in DW3 using Pang Tong and his musou so I've got a lot of fond memories of the character.

EDIT: Oops, accidental double post

Voted for

Deng Ai:
I like his dumb drill moveset and his silly MMA grapples. Really though, he has a fun moveset (I always wanted a lance moveset in DW). Kinda ended up giving him a vote since he didn't do so well in the Japanese poll.

Guo Huai:
His moveset is a bit annoying to use, but I really like him. He has a cool, unique design/aesthetic, an interesting relationship to Xiahou Yuan (a personal favorite of mine) and Xiahou Ba, and aside from his overused "I am so sick" shtick, he's pretty great.

Zhuge Dan:
Wasn't a fan of his moveset change in DW8 (the attack animations on his new weapon are way, way too long) but he's a cool guy. I also want to mention that his DW7 Wu uniform is really damn snazzy looking

Probably would have voted Sima Yi or Zhong Hui if I didn't pick Deng Ai, in terms of personality. Sima Yi is just way too cool now. He's a way better character than he was during the PS2 days (where I really disliked him). Xiahou Ba is also pretty fun in all of his appearances, though I hate him defecting to Shu

Seriously though, Xiahou Ba should be either a Wei or a Shu. In both 7 and 8 he defects from Jin pretty much immediately.

His young appearance is based on his Wei days, while most of his screentime comes after he defects to Shu. So, yes, classifying him as Jin is weird. Empires had him as part of Shu in the opening animation even, but they still kept him as Jin in-game.

I approve.

Hopefully Wang Yi comes in 4th though.
Testified.

Gan Ning

Too late to vote but ah well. Loved running around gankin fools with his special in DW3 and DW4. Shame it looked like they nerfed him later on.

He still was a bad ass. Historically too, though not necessarily a "good guy". I remember reading the story about the bells, that was pretty creepy.

Poor Xiahou Yuan just can't keep up

All of my choices ended up pretty low. I think I went Great Ass, Eugene, and Jafar.
