Hopefully Nintendo won't be the only one with an exciting showing again.

TGS was more exciting this year. Last thing I expected...

So how does attending e3 work if you are a game developer?

Is it considered a vacation if the whole studio can't go? I have to wonder if other employees would hate you, because they would stay behind and continue to work.

Haven't seen the ESA registration emails go out yet. Guess they must he going out soon... or I missed it :p

Can't wait for some Zelda WiiU hands on!

So I'm a little confused...it says the expo is not open to the public in their faq (and has always been closed to the public by my understanding), but apparently you can buy a ticket to go? Isn't that open to the public? Or do you still need industry credentials to buy the expo pass?

Nope, means you can buy your way in. That's how I always got in, tickets used to be $400/$360 too :(

You apply for a free pass. ESA confirms ur employment every other year or so. No it's not a vacation unless you are using ur pto. If you are the only one from ur studio to go only the junior devs will care as the old hats are burned out on cons. Unless you live in LA where most studios let everyone go at least one day. Though most say they went and just take a free day off. E3 is fun but it's a major hassle to go to and endure...and the parties are kinda weak.

$1000? Not even worth it.

Of course it's not worth it at $1000. You get into E3 by presenting industry details, being paid to be there, or being invited.

Though this is me speaking from inexperience and overhearing other conversations while waiting in hour long lines. This is also through the use of what amounted to Microsoft inviting an anonymous ~150 or so fans.

Well boo. Thanks for clearing that up!

Just like with the Superbowl, I think it's one of those things that can be more fun at home than being present at the real thing. If you go to the Superbowl you miss out on the commercials, party favors, and being able to go to the bathroom at your leisure as opposed to wading through a large crowd. If you go to E3, you miss out on a good amount of the internet hype even if you bring a phone or laptop.

Yeah but meeting people and playing the games is always a blast. Met quite a few awesome people and even ran into Feep lol

Also it can be good if you want to network.

Yeah, true...but it'd still be nice to go once at least, especially if you don't have to do it as a job. E3 vets seem so burned out at even the thought of going that I can't imagine it being any fun at all for them.

If you are just going for the sake of going and having fun, then yes you schedule some time off and you go, it's like any other vacation. E3 doesn't ask your company if you can go nor do they send companies passes, they just get proof that you work at the company and then send you your ticket that you signed up for. So it's up to the company to put any requirements on attendance (I know Microsoft for one has rules against their employees going to E3 without actual business meetings set up).

You're lucky if your phone or laptop can access the internet, so many tech folks there are maxing out cell internet. I generally had to take a break and go to the Starbucks a couple blocks away and use their Wifi.

Splatoon tournament incoming?

Doubtful as Splatoon will surely be releasing before E3 in addition to not being the most interesting thing to hold an event exclusively for.

Maybe a gauntlets of multiplayer Nintendo games? Who knows?

For whatever reason, Nintendo no longer has the mysterious Theatre connected to its mentioned booths. I don't know when it was removed from the list.
