EA Access is surpassing all internal sales expectations

This is great news. I was kinda iffy about its success because they haven't released any PR saying it was doing great, but I guess they were saving it for the earnings report. Signing up for Access will be the very first thing I do when I get a bone. Then D4.

While I think EA is gonna fuck this up somehow, I still believe the advantages will always outweigh the disadvantages, well at least for me.

So yeah, bring it to Origin EA.

Why? It's largely worthless on pc. I highly doubt the average Origin user is so into year old sports games and maybe old battlefield etc to spend money on a monthly subscription.

It's just plain wouldn't be worth their time. Ea are permanently giving old games on Origin for a reason.

I really hope Ubisoft jumps in on this Access-type deal, they would have the best value for money IMO. AC, Splinter cell, Rayman, then add in smaller titles like Child of Light, Valient hearts, etc.

I'm really not a fan of most Ubisoft titles, but I'd buy a ubi access pass in a heartbeat if it was priced similar to EA Access.

I would totally jump on that.

I would like to play a bunch of their games but never actually end up buying it so it would be a nice middle term.

Offer the smaller titles 6 months after the fact and the previous year Assassin's Creed and another AAA title and I'm in if it's priced like EA's offer.

Ubi's current lineup for next-gen isn't as packed as EA's, though. The lack of sports games makes it hard for Ubi to do an Access-like service till later in the gen. What do they have for next-gen? Let's make a list...

Assassin's Creed games
Watch Dogs
The Division
Heroes 6 is on PC so that can't

Drawing a blank. I doubt we'll see another Splinter Cell for a long time. Prince of Persia is MIA. I dunno?

I buy around 15 games with 200$ and I'm sure of liking them all (and owning them all), not a bunch of last years sports games and dead multiplayers.

You like them so much that you pay $13 per game? How generous of you, glad to see you appreciate a well done work.

With its continued success, I wonder how long till Sony caves and offers it as well. If this eventually happens it would be cool if your subscription was cross-platform, it would make having both consoles more appealing not having to buy multiple subs/copies

Love that idea. It's probably a pipe dream but that would be sick.

It's honestly a great value. Played and enjoyed more on it than PS + and GwG on PS4 and XBO. You get BF4, Pvz, Peggle, Nfs and all last year's sports gave for $30.

Great job on the trials too. It's what I always wanted Sony trials on PS3 to be.

It's cool because they are the full games. For me I only want their sports line for their trial period and I can play my friends that one time all year in madden or NHL LOL.

I have PsNow and have been playing GoW Accession on it and its bad substitution for me. Stutters and resolution drops. Would much rather downloading games like EA access.

Yeah the future looks nice: let's pay 200$/year between 5 subscription services while we own nothing.

lets be honest, if you're paying $200/year in subscription services and don't like ANY of the games, you're doing something wrong. If you happen to like a game out of the dozen+ each service offers, it's an older game anyway so why not buy it? It's cheap.

It seems like a great value on paper but honestly I just don't want to support it. The thought of having all the major pubs giving exclusive content in the future all via their own "access" programs is disturbing. Do people really want to pay for ubi access, ea access, activision access, square Enix access, wb games access, etc etc?

You do realize if none of the old games interest someone and they only buy fifa, madden and battlefield... They aren't saving anything. So where exactly is the value?

The value is in the $30 you save by CHOOSING to not subscribe. Why people get upset over an option is beyond me.

No it isnt, it's from someone who can see a painfully obvious trap.

This one is almost just as ignorant.

You've been able to get deals like that for years....from a mystical service called "renting". Brand new games as well.
You get to keep the games as long as you're subscribed, though. Your catalog will continue to grow and grow save for the occasional 2-3 year old sports game being taken off the service. Renting with Gamefly you'll only get to have a couple out at a time. There's also the 10% off new games and 2-6 hour trial periods before release to take into account.

Because everygame costs $60.

And of course, waiting for sales is bad, but waiting for the games to be given away in a service like this is supporting the devs.

I will gleefully jump with a resounding bellyflop into whichever camp offers this model as an option for all titles released on its platform.

I believe it's inevitable.

Well, this is the publisher that offers the service, so it is actually supporting the dev that gets paid by the publisher. As opposed to the indie dev that sees on the day of launching a new game comments like "waiting to get this for free on
subscription name undisclosed
". But this is another topic. The point is that this is an option. Who finds value in it will subscribe. Waiting for a game to come to your subscription of your choice is similar with waiting for games to be on sale. If you don't like the games offered, you're free to not pay.

The problem is that the success of this lead to a whole bunch of new problems that are arleady covered in longer and better written post than I could do with my limited english. Its a trojan horse in my eyes and I'm not alone. But time will say.

btw: sales are also enforced by the publisher.

Where's Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Capcom Access??

It's cool that EA has led the third party charge for this stuff, but I'm personally more interested in other publishers jumping on this train.

Then again, not every publisher is on current gen yet.

$29.99/year for a bunch of games.

I wonder why any Xbone owner would NOT sign up.

Because none of the games currently in the vault interest me in the slightest?

The "value" in a service like this is highly subjective and depends upon the games in the Vault and the individual tastes of each gamer.

I couldn't give a rats ass about last years version of any sports game. And the only other title currently in the Vault that interests me - BF4 - is a game I already have on PS4.

As more games are added then there might eventually be a game in the Vault which interests me enough to check it out. But even then I tend to buy games I really want to play, so by the time a game is in the Vault I will likely already have it if its good enough for me to care.

With all that said, I think the Vault is a good idea for casual gamers who don't buy a lot of games and like the idea of paying to try a smattering of games out. That just isn't something that generally interests me, given my buying habits. So I'm probably not the target market for this type of service, at least how its currently constructed.

Edit: Now, if EA began offering new releases on a tiered program then I might dip my toe in. But offering new(er) games that people are still buying is a tricky proposition. Obviously the main benefit for EA with the way the current program is set up is to siphon off some revenue from the market for older games which simply aren't selling very well anymore.

Good for EA and the early adopters but this won't turn out well for consumers when every major publisher tries jumping on the bandwagon.

This. It is, simply put, an awesome deal right now based on the content they keep putting in the vault. I'd happily subscribe to something from Ubisoft similarly priced if they provide similar levels of content. I'm a fan of subscription models like this. It is somewhat of a used market for all-digital folks like myself. For games I'm willing to wait on, I can get them through a service like this. Works for me.

I think a major reason this works well for EA is they publish a ton of games in a year. A publisher like Activision has severely cut back their output and it wouldn't be as viable. Ubisoft might be able to make it work. EA pushing sports games makes it a lot easier for them

Fucking crazy we went from No DRM during E3 to this. It's the same thing - The absolute same thing.

You are paying EA to market their games directly to you with sweeteners on one hand and utterly removing your consumer rights with the other (i.e. You own jack shit). When you now think you might buy a non-EA game your initial thought will be "no, I'll get a discount with EA Access and I've got a sub so why spend money on other games". That would be my first thought at least. **PES or FIFA? Fuck it FIFA because it's discounted and I'm paying a sub anyway**.

This stifles competition in a really shitty, corporate way and I'm 100% against it. It come as no surprise whatsoever that that MS went for this as they are after the exact same thing. Your money with no overhead and zero consumer ownership.

I'm still skeptical because well... it's EA

I know this might sound naive, but if you know what the service provides (which you do) and you know how much it costs (which you do) and you know that you cancel it without a problem (which you do) - what is there to be skeptical about? They aren't going to firebomb your house while you sleep.

I signed up for BF4 and PvZ Garden Warfare. They were £25 each in stores. Paid £20 for a year's access to them instead. I'll have had my fill of them by the time the year is up. If I bought them and traded them in a year later, I'd probably get £10 for the pair, so the same playing time would cost me £40 at retail. Plus there's likely other titles coming up of course. And NFS Rivals, which is fun for an hour at a time. :)

And here I was wondering just the other day how console gamers were gonna screw us this gen. I guess now we know. Thanks for all the horse armor DLC ya cocksuckers.

Not at all.

Reason being that even with the subscription discount, FIFA is cheaper at retail than it is digitally. PES will be cheaper at retail than digital FIFA is with a discount, too.

EA led the charge last generation when it came to online passes. Looks like they will also lead in publisher specific subscription services.

Hope you all enjoy having dozens of subs for each of your consoles.

I'm not denying that is a good deal =p

but it's still EA >_>

Yeah, this service definitely has the feeling of a trojan horse. MS was raked over the coals for attempting all-digital DRM (at the behest of EA/Activision if rumors are to be believed) as a way to eliminate the used games market. Yet, here we are with lots of people championing subscription based gaming models. I can see how some gamers might like this idea if they don't buy a lot of games, but this definitely isn't my cup of tea.

Yeah I don't know if this is such a good thing.

It is telling each that people are willing to pay monthly for their games.

Eventually ea access will be required on top of Xbox live, the retail game, etc.

Still do not understand why this is an xbox only thing and not available for PC users.

I mean what have EA got to lose by making it available through Origin? They cut out the middleman (IE no MS for going through Origin) so they make more money.

I know lots of people that would be willing to subscribe to get access to games early, free games, and discounts for upcoming games.

I know I would have used it for Dragon Age: Inquisition.

What new games are apart of it now?

Basically none of the old ea games would interest me.

They just added Plants v Zombies.

Im afraid of the tactics that publishers would use to get subscription numbers up. (Holding content hostage under the subscription is an example). I also dont want to find out what happens to "my games" if the publisher decides they aren't my games anymore, or what happens if the publisher goes out of business, or if their servers get shut down, or if they service is cancelled.

I dont trust these publishers and not much good can come of every publisher having their own subscription service (or their own version of Steam/Origin/Uplay). That's just my opinion.

That's not totally unlike what publishers do now anyways, forcing people to purchase from specific stores to get certain content. I honestly hate that, but people can't help themselves.

I'll do what I did in that instance, I completely stopped shopping at Gamestop, fuck 'em. If EA Access were to pull the same thing, fuck them too.

If it's not your cup of tea then I don't see why it bothers you when you have the choice to ignore it.

Everybody I know with an Xbone, including myself, subs to this service. It's an incredible value. I know somebody who is getting their kid one specifically because of EA Access.

Sony really missed the boat on this one.

It's an exceptional deal. My only worry is that they'll get greedy and try to double the price while offering marginally more value.

Fortunately, EA almost certainly would never do this.

No sony didn't miss it at all.
