EA broke my 360.

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
So, I finnaly downloaded the Fight Night Round 3 demo, becuase Im lazy and hadnt gotten around to it. So, I played it last night and it was pretty awesome. The animations are crap, but thats not the point.

This morning I go to play my 360 and decide to play the demo again because I only had about 30 mintues before I need to go to work. Load the demo and the system beeps at me and locks up. Wierd, because I hadnt had lockup issues before this. So, I turn the power off and back on and it beeps at me while the 360 splash is playing. I turn it back off and back on and it wont turn on, instead the "ring of light" is red.

I eventually decided to try putting a game in and that worked. It loaded the game, so then I went back out to the dashboard and loaded the demo back up and the demo now works fine, and the 360 turns on on its own.

Now Im worried because this happened with my original Xbox (I got the dirty disc error) and then it went away and everything worked fine... a week later the system wouldnt play shit and I had to return it. Earily enough, I got the Xbox at launch and it didnt start having problems until January as well.

God Damnit. Can someone at least tell me what the red light means? Microsoft support doesnt seem to know.

How many rings of red did you get? Three is considered the worst, which means an "internal problem". This is all outlined in the first manual under troubleshooting.

I would not worry about it. If the red lights come on and stay on, send it in. If it is working fine, I would put it behind you.

I thought it was all 4, but my friends was telling me the first one was still blank.. which would make 3, and honestly I was at an angle that I wouldnt have seen that one very well.

This doesnt sound good :(

I think its all EA sports games. Madden nearly killed my 360 but its been fine ever since launch. I'm still worried that my 360 will die real soon sometime this year. Just don't play EA demos on your 360. (Madden 06, fight night round 3, and any others not mentioned) Oh and by madden 06 I mean the whole game. Also Fight night round 3 didn't mess with my 360 so I don't know what happened with yours.

Yeah do what he said, if it works fine then don't worry about it. Thats what I did but then again I never got any red lights.

I had three red once before. When I got them, it was the first three that lit up. I haven't had any other problems since then (been about 3 1/2 weeks). This was just after I had moved the PSU the day before.

Like others said, I wouldn't worry about it.

Also, try ensuring your video cable is fully plugged in, your system isn't at a crazy angle and that your HD switch is fully switched to whatever position is correct for your TV.

yeah its bad. My buddy is still at my house playing with it. Said Ridge Racer 6, and DOA4 have both locked up since then as has the FN3 demo. I have a product replacement plan with gamestop, but I dont know how much good thats going to do me since they dont have any.

Ive got a bad feeling Im going to be off PDZ for a bit. Time to steal my Xbox back from my little cousin.

Just got off the phone with gamestop. They wont be able to replace my system until April. So I paid 50 bucks for absolutely nothing with their product replacement plan.

They are actually selling the system on their website with a pre-release and it ships on the 20th on January.. when I pointed this out to the person on the phone they told me "those are bundles that came from Microsoft, we cant give you one of those". So, they are willing to SELL you a system if you buy 5 games. But if they allready have your 900 dollars from the bundle you bought back in November, they dont seem to care that you have a piece of paper that says they will replace your system for 12 months no questions asked.

Im still under MS warranty, but Ive heard horror stories about how long they take to fix things, so it looks like I might be decomissioned until April. Maybe I should just ebay the system and all the games to some poor sap. Im also getting jacked out of 3 months of Xbox Live Im still paying for.

Product replacement plans are a scam. I never trust those things and it irks me whenever they try to offer me a $3 plan for a game. There's always some kind of loophole or whatever that screws you over

yeah, to be fair it comes with all of their bundles, so I didnt really have a choice on the matter... I had it for Xbox and they didnt give me any hassle, but there wasnt a shortage of those.

Not accurate. A friend of mine had his sent in to MS for disc scratching and got a new system with a hard drive (now he has 2 hard drives) all in less then a week. It will certainly be faster than April. Then, when you get your system back, go cancel the extended warranty and get some of your money back.

that sounds promising. So I can send them just the system itself and not the HD? That was one of my big concerns was losing all of my data.

ever since i've dl'ed the madden demo my 360 started locking up. Now I cant play a half of 2k6 without my system locking up on me. I havent gotten the "red lights" at all but I cant play any games. So MS is sending out a box for my system today :/

Yes. Call them again and tell them you are getting sporadic lockups. They MAY ask you to send the hard drive if they think the hard drive is causing the problem. In this case, that would require you going and getting a memory card and backing up before you send it in. Keep your receipt for the memory card, and return it once you get your XBOX 360 back.

grr.. what all do I need to save then? Will saving my profile save all my achievments and friendslist? I know game saves. I can redownload all the XBLA games Ive paid for. Will I need to retrieve my Xbox Live name or will saving my profile be enough?

I just got off the phone with them and they asked for the HD. So I'm guessing its the problem.

Your achievements and friends list are all tied to XBOX Live, so I would back up the profile and your games saves. I am not sure, but the customer service rep should give you some guidance. Are you sure the problem is not related to an overheating/loose cable problem?

If you can access your interface, I would save your games saves and profiles to a memory card before you ship it back. Once the system is back, load your saves back and return the memory card.

Yeah, same here. I took the HD off and played a game without saving and it was fine. It locks up when accessing the HD.. so I need to get the game saves off of it. I'll probably eat the memory card and just keep it.

I only had a NBA2k6 save on there...nothing big. So I just wiped the drive.

This thread makes me wonder what kind of failure rate these hard drives have. Very disconcerting to me.

yeah, my system had been PERFECT up to that point. No hangups or anything, 2 months later its crapped out. Probably not a great sign. Im still convinced something went wrong downloading the demo of FN3 last night that caused all of this. Too big of a cooincidence. I started the DL and then flipped over to sports center and didnt monitor it, so I dont know if something went wrong.. but it was fine last night.

I'll keep the memory card just in case this happens again.

We'll keep a jetpack warm for ya'!

No wonder MS decided to have the HDD external! ;)

Well at least you can keep on using your 360 now until you get a new HDD.

I had my 360 turn on and off incessently all by itself. I was like OMG MS fuxxored me. Then I realized that one of my controllers were flipped upsidedown with a book on top of it so that the sivler "X" botton was constantly being pressed in.

Come to think of it, Bob is right. Unless they want you to send in the whole system, a memory card will still let you get on and play PDZ with us. Did they ask for the system, too?

have yet to talk to them yet. Just figured out it was the HD on my own.

[obvious troll] LOL 360 is so crap it needs four types of error lights. [/obvious troll]

Wow...I guess it was the HD. Just played a game of 2k6 w/o it and was able to finish a whole game.

yupp. as soon as you said they wanted the HD I decided to try to play without it. Worked like a charm.

You think the demos had a big part in it? Im starting to believe EA's demos did this.

i get 3 red lights about once every 2 days now. i just reboot :) yeah its a pain sometimes but i cbf importing another 360

also, ONE red light, in the bottom left, is the worst. rebooting wont fix this. it means call microsot

yeah, so it stopped working even with the hard-drive removed. I reset the system and everything has been fine since. I'll send it to MS I guess.

really? the game(s) still froze on you?

DaddyZ said:

yeah, it took me forever to get into the stupid system menu to reset the console. Probably 20 or 30 tries to turn it on.

I rewired my 360 cables when I moved the room around last weekend. Sure enough I had 3 freezes within 24 hours when I had seen 5 freezes in the entire month and half before that.

Needless to say I moved around a few of the wires again and I haven't had a problem since. This freaking machine is awfully finicky though. I sure hope it's not gonna become more finicky with age.

The animations are crap

seriously, did i get a different download to everyone else as this is at least the third time i've seen this and the animation is far from "crap"....?

I've been problem free over here still. Except when playing dvd movies, it skipped on me , dunno if it was running a little warm from playing a game or what. Nothing major though.

It seems to me that all the cables connecting the system to its PSU and your TV have to be in perfectly to avoid any problems. Especially the PSU. I have mine sitting on a cement floor so it never really gets warm at all and I think I lucked out and got a good cord with it. Others may not be so lucky.

This just happened to mine yesterday. Called 1-800-4myxbox and Microsoft overnighted me a box and I shipped it off to them. Just send it in. It sucks, but why take the chance?
