EA forecasting 9-10 million copies for Star Wars: Battlefront

Yeah, its sad that dozen of thousands people wont lose their job and we'll get games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Battlefield, Mirrors Edge in the future.

Oh, I like to read things out of context or not even read the quoted posts too. Oh wait, no I don't.

You people are just insane. Bloodborne, a console exclusive, niche genre, launched in March, sold a million copies in 2 weeks.

Battlefront, available on PS4, X1, and PC, reboot of an established game series, based on a immensely popular franchise, coinciding with perhaps one of the largest movie releases of the past decade, releasing during the holidays, won't hit 10mil in around 6 months?

Is there one example of a current gen only game selling 10 million copies? Or a cross gen game that sold 10 million copies on PS4/XB1?

Confirmed, not speculated.

Do we have numbers for Titanfall or Destiny?
I'm expecting something similar (2*Titanfall because it's now on PS4 and not Xbox/PC only).

Star Wars themed Battlefield based upon a fondly remembered predecessor, released when the marketing-induced hype for the next Star Wars movie climaxes. 10 million copies sound about right.

I think it'll clear that easily, even though I think everything I've heard about this "Battlefront" game makes it seem like a completely EA-ified POS and not something appealing from my perspective as a Battlefront 2 fan.

The "Star Wars" name is enough to get this thing to sell in droves, which is why there's no incentive to even make an effort beyond mediocrity. A pity.

Oh its gonna Sell more than 10 million. Hype Train is too much for this. Even this game released like most Buggiest game of the Century its still gonna break 10 million.

But Im gonna say one thing. Even this game got a 10/10 reviews , people still will bash it to Death. it will happen no matter what.

I dont know were this hype train is appart from Gaf, maybe it's still to early but 10 mio would be huge, even with the Star Wars Movie

GTAV has been said to have reached 2mil sales on Steam just 5 days ago. Currently, 10mil sold in units for PS4 and X1. You'd be hard pressed to find sell out numbers for any "blockbuster" title. It should also be noted that this is a port of a game that had been out on last gen for a year. (just google GTAV sales)

Have you ever thought the only reason a current gen exclusive hitting 10mil being rare is because there are very few current gen exclusives? Also, that Battlefront will be one of the first multi-plat current gen "blockbuster" games?

Certainly doesn't seem like the "no chance at all".

Try the rest of the internet apart from Gaf. While there are people hating on some lack of features, there are still a ton of people hyped for this.

Why are you excluding the PC? Anyway GTA V and Cod AW are the most likely candidates, in fact for GTA V we have proof that it has done it:

For Cod I can't give you definite proof but it's a reasonable assumption to make.

Anyway I think you're really underestimating the marketing machine that's going to be brought up for Star Wars this holiday season, Star Wars is going to be freaking everywhere, so 9-10 million for a game that can directly cash in on that is not unreasonable (again assuming it doesn't suck).

It says nearly 10 million on PS4/XB1. You said another 2 million on steam. So there's one that has sold over 10 million.

We don't have any proof that COD, Destiny, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, Fifa or Watch Dogs have crossed over 10 million sold on current gen/PC. We have one example of a game selling more than 10 million on current gen/pc.
I don't believe that a star wars game has nearly the pull of COD, or Battlefield or Fifa. So I have a hard time believing that battlefront will outsell them.

There will likely be no convincing you so I just have to say "You don't believe in the force, do you?"

(btw, stop ignoring that cross-gen availability takes potential sales away from current gen)

That GTA news is also for the quarter ending Dec 31st, the game's over 10 million on PS4+X1 by now.

And just because Activision doesn't share unit numbers for their sales, doesn't mean that CoD hasn't crossed 10 million on current gen/PC, it's reasonable assumption to make.

Again, you're really underestimating how big Star Wars is going to be this holiday season, just take some youtube trailers as indication:

The Star Wars movie trailer uploaded 2 weeks ago has 50 million clicks on Youtube (and that is just one version, there are other versions as well, including one that has 10 million clicks on its own)

The Battlefront trailer uploaded 2 weeks ago is at almost 17 million clicks, compared to that the Black Ops 3 trailer has "only" 12.5 million clicks, now sure I'm not going to claim that all trailer views are going to translate into sales, but it's still an indication of interest.

Battlefront is going to be big this christmas, which is why it's so significant that Sony has the marketing deal on that, there's probably nothing that Sony could put out this year that would sell as many systems as a special edition Star Wars PS4.

But there's no real point to discussing this now, let's just wait.

Ubisoft disclosed recently that AC:Unity sold 10 millions worldwide, but they counted AC:Rogue sales (maybe 2-3M?), and it wasn't the end of the fiscal year yet.

10 millions is a right number, considering how the current-gen is/will be in houses, how big is the marketing budget around a hyped project.

Watchdogs sold ~7M (maybe 8M) on PC/PS4/X1 and that was in the summer of 2014, on a much smaller install base. 18 months later and with the Star Wars and DICE names attached, 10M are possible.
