EA going for the shitty three-peat (WCIA) [Up: Loses to Time Warner in first round]

For EA to receive so much hate from so many people to win the award in consecutive years and be the favorite to win again this year, don't the people voting need to be angry at EA?

Yes.

Who is angriest at EA?

The people who buy its games.

I'm not angry at EA because I stopped buying the companies games years ago.
I could not care less what it does.

Stop bringing logic into this. lol

No I don't think they visit the site. I do think there are people who cruise the internet knowing nothing about these companies, see some reddit post, buzzfeed article, some post on Facebook their friend/family posted, or one other random junk site with the headline of the winner, and notice it. An article with the winner is exactly the kind of crap you'll see posted on Facebook, which so many people check religiously.
It's not the responsibility of a joke poll or the voters in a joke poll to educate the ignorant, not in this age of instantly accessible information. And even if these layman knew more about the truly "bad" companies, what are the majority of them going to do?

They're going to bad-mouth those companies to their friends and online in message boards and on Facebook and not actually do anything.

Welcome to real life.
Stop bringing logic into this.

Sorry.

EA won't do anything about it either, so?

I actually think voting for companies that legitimately deserve the award would help to raise awareness to the public, which in consequence could cause an actual impact on the company image.

Nope, they already make documentaries and have political activists against these other companies and it hasn't done anything. Why would an internet poll?

This award is a joke and none of the companies listed will do anything about it. People know how shit Monsanto, AT&T, Comcast, TWC, Verizon, etc all are. What people don't know and are ignorant of is how shit EA is. No major media ever reports on how broken EA games actually are. My friends ask me all the time why BF4 is so bad and why there is lag on the maps and I tell them because EA sold you a rushed product, and you know what most of them say? "I wouldn't have boughten this game if I had known it was broken". Now I wonder why they didn't know why it was broken, yet they do know that Monsanto is evil, and they constantly complain about how they can only get Comcast in their area and would switch in a heartbeat if they could. Many people know how shitty these other companies are, quit acting like the world is ignorant of it.

I'm just gonna leave this here:

See, the thing about the award is it’s really about which companies crap on their customers. The Consumerist is a website all about that. The real issue here, if it’s not the slightly odd choice of a games publisher over a bank based on recent events, is the name of the award. It’s not about who is the “Worst Company In America”. It’s about which company has most pissed off people who read a watchdog website. If you’re arguing for worstest companies, I’d venture that Monsanto, or perhaps Academi (nee Blackwater), or any number of weapons manufacturers might just pip the company that publishes video games for the title.

Of course, the other important point to make is that EA really needs to sit up and take notice of this. It’s not the first time they’ve been so widely loathed, and it’s a reputation for a few years there they managed to escape, Activision kindly swooping in to take the honours. But Activision’s peculiar quietness combined with EA’s stepping up in the dick stakes, has seen that unrivalry swap over once more. EA should be extremely concerned by the animosity felt toward them, and really start addressing where they’ve gone so wrong. These things can be turned around, but they won’t be so long as EA continues with the attitude that was present in the second half of their issued statement:

“We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

So, “We’re going to carry on exactly as we are,” seems to be the implied response, which is perhaps a really damned stupid one in the face of such a clear message from their consumers. Hubris, even in the face of such a hyperbolic ‘award’, isn’t the right direction for any major company, least of all one that has such a direct face-to-face relationship with their customers. EA – it’s time to listen. RPS

EA isn't even the worst gaming company (Hey Microsoft, how's life?) but I feel like voting for them because of how up in arms people are getting that they win the super serious golden poo award.

Monsanto is obviously the worst one on here, they are practically ruining the future for the entire planet.

However I wouldn't mind seeing EA take it home just for the hilarity.

so why isnt pioneer on the list

and thats not really a big deal in 2014 bud, its the modern reality of farming

also anyone thinking this bu bu but it blew in from the neighbor farm bs is amazingly ignorant to both the legal proceedings that actually happened and monsantos policies on it

amazingly ignorant? your use of ad hominem is sad.

Monsanto's track record of continually acting outside the boundaries of what most people would consider "decent practices" is what has landed them on this list. I understand companies and the bottom line, but their tendencies to attack farmers and destroy lives puts them in a class of their own.

Sadly, I agree, but I'd rather it be more insightful information for the few who do take note.

Comcast, Verizon for anti-consumer, anti-progressive monopolies and overcharging?
Financial companies for taking a dump on the economy?

Come on, I mean I know EA deserves the recognition especially this past year, but someone else needs to win simply because they have more universal reach while being equally as scummy.

I could swear Lululemon is a Canadian based company, isn't this supposed to be worse american company rather than just companies that operate in the states or was i mistaken?

No really. They don't attack farmers.

I think EA winning this the last 2 years really shows how the "first world problems, bro" argument is correct. I mean, I bitch about video game companies' idiocy and anti-consumerism all the time. But I could never, ever, vote for a media company as "worst" over a company like Monsanto.

That's like wanting a mugger to be #1 on the FBI Most Wanted list because he mugged you personally.

So... which one is it?

And how are they practically ruining the planet please teach me.

Really? It's not enough that I searched for it for you and spoon fed you a link? Do I need to come to your house and point the mouse for you as well? You could've googled it yourself in the time it's taken you to write all these posts demanding a link.

Of the two companies, MS definitely deserves it over EA. As for legit companies, there are way too many to list, but hot damn do I wish Verizon would get it for their bullshit.

That's not true. I think it's understandable to hate EA and not buy their games. All one has to do is look at what they've done to games people loved in the past. They acquired Bioware and Mass Effect and Dragon Age went to crap. They acquired the Star Wars license and we got shit like The Old Republic and the most-likely-to-be-crap future Battlefront game. Battlefield is now a slightly different CoD that doesn't work and has DLC. The first Dungeon Keeper game in fourteen years was a mobile game with IAP. SimCity became an unplayable mess. They bought the rights to make NFL games meaning they're the only company available for football games. They almost put out a f2p C&C game. They shat all over the Medal of Honor series. The Sims 3 contains almost as much DLC as Trainz Simulator and The Sims 4 doesn't look much better. They've acquired and shut down numerous studios

I think it's understandable for people to be bothered by them.

No really trust me. I know plenty about this subject. I want to know exactly which segment you had the issue with so I can explain which part you don't understand or were misinformed about.

I think I saw a documentary showing how Monsanto acquires farm land from farmers that aren't willing to sell. They buy adjacent farmland, plant their proprietary seeds. Let the seeds blow into the farmland that they want to buy, then sue the farmers to the point where they have no choice but to sell just to pay their legal fees.

They'd get my vote every year.

Only in a world where people are so far removed from knowing what food is made off, or how stuff is grown could you find people that wouldn't object to Monsantos shit... but alas here we are, with Monsanto shills telling people to stop living in the past and accept their monopoly on what can and can't be planted.

Still, this award won't change anything anyway so it's more fun for EA to get it.

Remember this is a consumer focused site. Do people really have negative consumer experiences with Monsanto?

I can certainly see the case being made for the cable companies though.

Yes, there are far worse companies on that list, but they are bigger and don't really give a shit. EA winning three times in a row says something about the company.

Now if Monsanto/Time Warner/Comcast/Any of the banks were to win several times in a row too, that'd be great.

That's definitely a factor but not the main reason. EA is also the company most likely to even acknowledge receiving the award, the only company whose PR abilities are affected (and compromised ever so slightly) by it. It's exactly the people who might know about this award that are their target audience. That's why people vote for them over Monsanto and other globally villainous powers who could just shrug it off.

Why isn't there a separate category for gaming related companies? If it's doable it would help bring more light to the other horror stories of other companies and you could still rag on EA. Hey at least sim city is offline now? Eh? Eh?

Oh really?

They sure had no qualms about bringing a heavy handed, unfounded, suit against a small business owner back in 2002. You're delusional if you don't believe they do the same against small and medium farms whose land they want.

As for destroying the earth, or at least our agriculture, how about the story of the unapproved Roundup-Ready GMO wheat that mysteriously showed up in Oregon?
so if he happened to be unaware of having roundup ready crops

why was he spraying roundup on it

and yes wheat is destroying the earth

Yeah, but you cannot take this fake award seriously or you are just another ignorant slacktivist. You know how I know? People in this thread said so.

I agree. EA makes bad, broken games, but MS was trying to take that idea and apply it to an entire video game console. They didn't back off out of the kindness of their hearts but because their preorder numbers were shit.

Exactly, MS should win this one but people are too focused on EA

So...what, you work for Monsanto or something? Or are you just enjoying being an obtuse turd because you're anonymous on the internet?
I have in the past worked for monsanto. They have plenty of flaws. I went away from them not being the biggest fan of them.

The problem I have is people being uneducated when they think they know plenty because they read some internet chain emails about farmers, when they've never even seen a farm, or seen food Inc or some bullshit.

Monsanto is not a good company. Not because of any of the reasons I've seen anyone in this thread post.

Hilarious that people think this a serious award and that truly evil companies should win it.

As soon as you let the internet vote, you open it up to all kinds of trolling.

This award carries as much weight as an online petition. Let's just have fun with it and agree that EA makes shitty games, and that Microsoft tried to pull their DRM bullshit on is and still go on about how great the cloud supposedly is.

Comcast or Verizon should easily take this shit over EA......Comcast purposely raising prices while keeping the same architecture despite the fact they can roll out real fiber optic that rivals google at anytime but is holding it back because no competition is bullshit. My buddy and cousin work for them and knew about the time warner merger way before it was announced and know about there internet plans but it will never happen because no one else can compete with the complete monopoly and market domination they have.

Fuck you Comcast.

and youd never be able to come up with a convincing reason why

No, you'll never be convinced. Multiple people in this thread have pointed out the specific things that Monsanto does to deserve their 'worst company ever' status, and you dismiss them as 'oh, that's just how the world works'. Maybe so, but it's still a company full of dicks doing dickish things to dick over farmers who already struggle most years to make a profit.

If you asked me to pick an example of a company that adheres most closely to the 'every man for himself' philosophy of libertarianism, I'd pick Monsanto. That alone is enough to earn them the Golden Poo, and it should earn them the scorn of the world as well. Sad that there are people out there willing to defend just about anything, no matter how despicable it is...

We have arrived at the truth, my friends.
