EA proposes to buy Take 2 for.... TWO... BILLION... DOLLARS..!! (AHUAHUAHUAHUA)

I don't want to see the biggest get bigger. I want to see the middle and bottom tiers merge together so they can survive.

I'm not against mergers atll but I oppose this third party merger because EA is only doing it to one up Activision.

Honestly though, I believe this deal is to go through. I don't think the shareholders are going to blow off this kind of money.

Before I use to blow that off but EA can pretty much maintain a console with just there games while killing to competition. And if they add Take 2....scary.
I've also been blowing off the concept of EA buying TTWO . . . but I was sure proven wrong.

You mean Vivendi, get it right people

my God, at this rate it won't be long before we get federal monopoly investigations. EA keeps this up, they're going to be under some very scrupulous microscopes.

NO! This will FUCK up any chance of a 2K Football revival
Actually, it would probably give it a better chance. EA extending their exclusive deal with the NFL probably killed off 2K football. :-(

Hasn't EA tried to buy out Ubisoft too?

they bought 22% of Ubisoft in what was seen as a prelude to a hostile takeover, but Ubisoft's strong sales since then have kept the value of their company high enough to resist EA

hm, when are those really big companys starting to buy Publishers?
Many companys are exploring this market atm so I wait fopr the first blow in the future. :/

in english plzzz.

When a company is being courted for an MA deal, it's stock price goes up. If you short a stock, you're betting on a price declines in share prices. Anyone shorting the stock now has to cover their position, unless they want to lose money. This in turn will increase share prices even further.

I believe Microsoft has a certain special relationship with EA - Both have former people working for each other.

so sony and sega must have a certain special relationship since they both have former people working for each other

thats bullcrap.

however, EA buying Take 2 would NOT be good. They're probably the only other big publisher out there other than Activision and EA that is in America now.

not to mention they also want to buy Ubisoft.. it would just decrease the amount of competition.

OMG WHAT AN ORIGINAL JOKE THAT NOBODY ELSE HAS MADE IN THIS THREAD EVER.

When you look at it, all of Microsoft exclusives are pretty much being bought out. Yeah they probably got th GTA IV extra content locked tight but if this goes down so will another major studio which MS paid content for. What is this like the third company that has major 360 exclusives being bought?

Another interesting tid-bit . . . Our favorite analyst Michael Pachter has been negative on TTWO for a long time now and has a $12 price target on TTWO.

I win this one, Mike. :D

They're not doing anything illegal. (Unfortunately)

Seriously, I get tired of that crap. Everytime something like this happens we have a "so something from a+ something from b confirmed?" joke

That's the one thing I feel conflicted about, I want the 2K football revival thing to fucking die once and for all, at least EA could assimilate some of the talent.
WTF? How can you hate a product so much? That's kinda creepy.

My question is how the fuck did EA end up with all this cash money.

Chicks buying endless 'The Sims' add-on packs.

No, but their companies originate in the same country (Sometimes that helps) & don't you remember Peter Moore also worked for SEGA?

Yeah, exactly. Or, perhaps a little more precisely, R* and ther other non sports studios (Firaxis, Irrational etc.). The sports studios and publishing business will go bye bye.
Or maybe they can put them on some IP's they got from Bioware/Pandemic and other Take 2 IPs?

EA will NEVER make a console, there's always more money to be made from software sales, and they have that sh*t locked down..
Considering their 3DO experience, I tend to agree. However, I also felt ERTS would never try to buy out TTWO. :lol

Some of the reactions in this thread are hilarious, I thought GAF understood the business of the games industry. If this news upsets you, get ready for a lot more of this stuff over the next 5 years. This is just the beginning.
They do understand the industry . . . and that is exactly why they are upset.

The Sims is an amazing concept and product. It is probably one of the highest quality full retail casual games out there, and it expanded the market. The Sims is one of the best things to happen to gaming.

Not even close to being a monopoly.

You could say the same for Sony if this deal goes down what will happen to L.A. Noire and that unannounced R* exclusive?

Man in the face of Actiblizzion EA is getting desperate. 2 Billion is over valued IMO.

Actually Microsoft's $44.6bn hostile takeover of Yahoo! smacks of desperation in the fight against Google. I think that they should've used that money to buy a dozen smaller companies with good prospects instead of the fallen-from-grace Yahoo! desperately trying to hang onto it's marketshare.

I guess they're giving up on making a competent Grand Theft Auto clone, so they're buying the devs outright. GG, EA, I hope the FTC isn't looking at this like it's a monopoly...

It worries me how unsurprised I am by this statement. With all this aggresive empire building I have to ask, what are EA striding towards?

Being number one place in market share (reclaiming their crown from Blizzard/Activision) is all very well and good but what is EA's end goal?
