"EA SPORTS™ FIFA on the Nintendo Switch"

Maybe it includes Nintendo characters? That's why it's specifically "FIFA for the Switch"?

Yeah probably not but it would be cool.

They should make their own soccer game featuring all Nintendo characters, similar style to their Mario tennis? Very acardy etc. That would be cool.

Low time and cost investment to EA. They can put juniors on the project to get them familiar with game development while their top talent is working on other projects that will net them more money.
I guess I can see the logic in that but then they're just screwing over some of their customers. It's just kind of shitty we can't expect anything better from EA

Actually i wonder if naming it differently might be a way to get round Microsoft's exclusive marketing deal and so allow EA/nintendo to advertise the switch version?

I could see MS getting that type of marketing deal with the NFL but looking around I don't see any indicators they have an exclusive marketing deal for FIFA. They do seem to have priority in FIFA promos.

So the Switch version won't be feature complete. People already mentioned the first Vita version, which also wasn't and was called FIFA Football.

I don't think it should surprise anyone that Switch isn't getting the full support. EA doesn't care about the Nintendo audience because it isn't their target audience.

This is untrue. EA port FIFA onto everything because they are contractually obliged too. EAs treatment of the switch is indicative that they dont care about money above everything.

I have read this many times. How do we know about that obligation?
I don't want to question you in any way. I was about to state this in some other discussion without knowing the source.

The system has had a successful launch and forecasts has the system outperforming estimates. The system also appeals better to the demographic that would buy a FIFA game.

...and as a result maybe they'll add games to be released in 2018 if the forecasts hold and the game does well. Nothing since release is going to change their course much with FIFA. They aren't going to suddenly pour resources into porting Frostbite and whatnot, and if they did that would probably be stuff they talk about this time next year and announce a larger slate of their annual releases.

But for 2017, their plans were probably based on history and capabilities of the console, neither of which are kind for fans of the Switch relative to the current consoles.

Pretty sure it's part of their deal with EA that gives them exclusive content.

Please dont start this bullshit, the PS4 has a weak ass netbook CPU and fake 4K, stop talking like consoles are cutting edge tech, they're all on the same boat.

If EA wanted to, they could port the game, they just don't see the money right now.
Imagine making a game for a netbook CPU, GPU and RAM, all downclocked or maybe they should make the game docked mode exclusive, nobody would complain about that.

Listen to your own advice about the bullshit.

No point being surprised or shocked. It's expected. People still expecting this to make crazy digits on the switch are still dreaming.

It might look like it sold a ton, but that wouldn't mean anything. Just a ton of curious people who'll eventually be disappointed and let it collect dust, or sell it.

Really, the cynicism on this thread is dumb. People saying Switch can't afford to have a sports ecosystem probably wasn't around following Wii news or hold agenda against. Back in the day Wii had a solid sports userbase as games like EA Sports', 2K and Pro Evo sold consistently on the system. Switch is selling nicely and obviously there's an opportunity and a prospect for any kind of genre to develop an userbase there. Doomsayers and shitposters here as usual are full of shit and constantly using the same old excuses, using the Wii U as excuse to support third-parties's bad decisions to support their bias.

If EA fails to deliver it's their fault and their fault only, they can't blame Nintendo this time.

I reaaally hope publishers don't see the Switch as a Wii U 2.0 :(

I mean, even if the sales are there, this will be the thing as far as ports go. The Switch can't compare to X1/PS4 power wise and extra time development doesn't seem worth it to publishers.

Lol I like how you're both predicting that it won't sell, and also covering your ass with an excuse if it does.

I'm not surprised it's a special edition, still hoping it's not severely gimped. They're gonna have to develop an unique local multiplayer mode if people want to play by sharing the joy cons.

I always thought a portable, feature rich FIFA would totally print money. I'm not even super into sports games, but I would buy that.

But knowing EA it will probably be a downgraded port of WiiU FIFA. And EA can walk away saying "Hey, we tried!" Just like Mass Effect 3.

Speaking of.. would totally buy Trilogy on a portable.

Well, goodbye EA on the Switch. Stick with Sony and MS then, if you can't be half assed to make a real FIFA game. I welcome PES on Switch now

To be fair, will there be any big gameplay change for Fifa 18?

When Vita got FIFA Football, it missed the newly introduced Tactical Defending. That was the only thing I missed because the ole controls were different. Else wise, it was pretty good and would have been enough for me.

I think the marketing argument has some merit, since that unique title can be used for future switch iterations and like EA said, be treated as its own thing. I'd like to think Nintendo told EA to not half ass it this time, though the spec gap between the consoles allows some fudging. I really just want a single joycon mode for coop, which i think they'll do, which will be the real attraction for lapsed customers.

This is huge news both in America and especially abroad. A real mobile FIFA you can play with friends is crazy. This is the global equivalent of Madden 18 on Switch's impact. You can play this game at work on break, finish work, and get in a game at work. In the lobby after a workout playing your Everton squad against Manchester United.

Will FIFA on Switch have all the modern features the PS4/XOne versions have?

You guys can't possibly be surprised by any of this. It's business as usual, don't expect anything above what past Nintendo consoles provided, be pleasantly surprised when a third party really support it with something big.

Square E3 should be interesting for Switch. May get World of FF.

There's no reason for EA to not releasing a FIFA game on Switch. Even mobile gaming has its own FIFA games.

The real question is, which version of FIFA are they going to give to Switch? If it's not FIFA 18, it might be the mobile version.

I couldn't see them developing a Switch-exclusive version of FIFA.

Someone posted a link on this page that has EA saying it's a custom version of FIFA 18.

It's pretty clear to me that EA doesn't want a nintendo console to be a success, it's not about money it's about the position of control they have as a third party in other consoles, also as more than one said they must ship a Fifa (one) on every system.

Seriously? This is conspiracy theory level reasoning.

Actually I do recall reading that EA's contract with FIFA states they must release a version on all systems with hardware sales exceeding a certain number.

I think he was referring the EA wants Nintendo out of the hardware business part.

Seriously, why do people believe in crap like that? It's not a conspiracy, third parties don't conspire to get Nintendo to go third party. EA will do what they think will make them the most money with regards to the resources they invest. That doesn't mean that their assessment is always right or even rational. Managers and decision makers are humans too, they can and will make dumb decisions.

Don't understand why anyone is freaking out over this. Isn't the title even better? Playing something called FIFA 18 would just feel dated when there's FIFA 19 and FIFA 20. But if it's EA SPORTS™ FIFA on the Nintendo Switch, that suggests it will last forever as a timeless classic. The one and only FIFA you need to buy from EA SPORTS™, on the Nintendo Switch. I applaud EA for their courage.

I do agree with this somewhat, and appreciate your bravery for backing yourself in

Small chance EA see the blue ocean on this FIFA title and make a solid custom version of FIFA 18 because it'll bank IMO however
