Hehe... a few friends that now work under him at MS are sending out their resumes.

That's normally a good sign. Getting rid of dead wood. You're on the bus or you're not.

The guy is a good public speaker. We need another Peter Moore quick.

Maybe EPIC is not making Gears and MS will develop it in house. Because I don't believe EPIC would ever let their development process be controled by a publisher or outside source.

kudo tsunoda is responsible for ruining def jam into def jam icon.

he shouldn't have a job.

seriously, the guy destroyed my beloved fighting franchise. well, at least he is not making games

I don't know much about that guy, but if he had any hand in Icon... well let's say I'm not holding my breath to hear what he's working on next. Especially if it's a fighting (I love fighting games).

Seriously, that game was a total abortion.

out of the fryin pan into the fire

:P

"You're either on the bus or you're not on the bus! OK? But if you're on the bus, you're on the bus just like the rest of us. Period."

KMSW dude!

This would explain that rumor that Mattrick was building a studio in Vancouver. Perhaps Kudo and company are making Gow2 and Epic is making the third game?

This would be similar to what Ubisoft did with Splinter Cell- the vancouver team would make the first game and the shanghai team would make a quick sequel while the main SC team would make a full fledged sequel that would count as the third in the series.

EA should go ahead and give Microsoft the Fight Night license too while they're at it... actually I suppose that doesn't matter, they could just make another boxing game, but they need to get on that shit like right now!

I don't think Project Lead, in this instance, means what you think it means.

Well he did bring us Fight Night, which essentially revived the Knockout Kings franchise. But he also ruined the Def Jam franchise.

Kudo was treading water in the ocean until the S.S. Microsoft came by and rescued his ass. There was no ship for Kudo to jump from because he already sank it.

More like Treyarch and Infinity Ward taking turns tarnishing the franchise, then redeeming the franchise, then tarnishing the franchise, then ...

So wait, if Kudo is heading a Gears game for Microsoft, does this mean that Microsoft has some ownership of the Gears franchise? I thought it was solely Epic's property that they could take to anyone else once their exclusivity contract with Microsoft ended after Gears 2.

They gave the job to the wrong guy . . .

Yes, while making Itagaki the job would make that division cool as shit, it'd also piss off all remaining Japanese devs as his coolness would be too much for them.

Guess it's what happens when one is as awesome as Itagaki.

He's joining a team that handles the marketing of games, not the development of them, as far as I can tell.

Awesome with Fight Night, ass with Def Jam Icon (and presumably that Marvel game, but that's neither here nor there now).

He's 3 for 1. That's not a bad average.

GoW2 with analog chainsaw melee action FTMFW!

Have you seen the Gears of War special on MTV? Epic had an onsite MS guy 'overseeing' the project and 'checking' in on them.

Peter Moore is sorely missed. He was like your best mate's trendy Dad. Such a legend.

:lol What a perfect description that's exactly how I think of Peter Moore.

Tieno you totally nailed it they had a guy overseeing them and I suppose Sudo will be the new guy.

I wouldn't be too worried about GOW2 to be honest because I think Kudo has a pretty damn good idea of what looks cool. This doesn't mean he'll have total control over the project in anyway, but I assume he'll be a total benefit to the project.

I wouldn't be surprised to see GoW2 beaming with style. Hmm I think there was some Global Illumination engine that was recently combined with UE3. I wonder if GOW2 will attempt to incorporate it?

I expect Gears 2 to have better lighting and I pray they concentrate more on the story this time and truly deliver on the potential that the first showcased. It would be awesome if they gave us a few moments where they fleshed Marcus' character out a bit more and the stuff going on with his father.

I think the most interesting part is what Mattrick is doing to Microsoft Game Studios.

Independent sources have confirmed to Gamasutra that this move is part of an in-progress re-organization from Microsoft senior vice president Don Mattrick, who took over for Peter Moore in 2007 after a stint at EA.

It's been suggested that Microsoft is considering a similar 'silo-ization' of its game divisions to Electronic Arts' 2007 re-org which saw executives take control of various thematic parts of the EA business - though this shift is not officially announced and still in progress.

Damn people forget Fight Night so quickly. Icon sucked, that is a given, but I could see where it was going. It seemed like it needed a few months of development to program in the "fun".

It looks like he is the new MS babysitter at Epic now. I think it is a great move as he and Cliffy could think up some wild, crazy ideas to put in Gears 2. With Kudo being a developer himself, I can see him actually going to bat for Epic for something like a chainsaw or asking for more time to finish the game.

Tsunoda is great, he seems passionate about games and is 'eccentric' to come up with some great ideas.

I will echo the loss of Moore, I really think that hurt Microsoft, there really wasn't any division frontman like him. He wasn't afraid to defend his position, disagree and pull no punches. I always looked forward to him giving presentations.

One good game does not make up for mercilessly butchering a franchise with a single fel swoop.

That was a producer - you'd have at least one on every game

I don't know if this is supposed to mean that Tsunoda is a MGS producer-type for Gears of War 2 or if he's heading up a separate Gears of War project.

If it's not Gears 2, what would it be?

-- A RTS like Halo Wars?
-- An online-only game featuring huge battlefields, massive numbers of players, and vehicles allowing Gears 2 to continue to focus on smaller conflicts?
-- A game where rap stars trade punches with Theron guards?

Any other ideas?

Gears of War is copyright and trademark by Epic games. What's Microsoft doing with a non-first party property?

Thrown overboard more like it.

That's what happens when you work at a company that only cares about the $ you bring in. Damn i miss Clover Studio. Let's hope the thrown overboard Seeds Keep doing what they do best.

They are producing it. You know, since they are paying for the development and all that.

Soo.. MS and EA merging soon, then.

Of course not. Not even close to happening. It's just that MS needed someone that knew how to run a games business and EA needed someone that knew how to take EA beyond games.

Damn right, people shouldn't be allowed to vote with their wallet. Someone in the know like WrikaWrek should mandate what gets made and what doesn't, paying the employees salaries by selling products be damned.

And I don't see your point, Clover made a good game that didn't sell. Icon was a bad game that probably sold better than Clover's.
