I felt exactly the same way. It was certainly no Mean Girls. Stone's performance ultimately made it worth watching, but only just.anaron said:I was expecting something so much better than what it actually was.Emma Stone was expectedly great but the movie just didn't do anything for me and it pales in comparison to the films it's being compared to.
This is a movie thoughBuckethead said:Don't doubt it. I trust nothing GAF says when it comes to women.
Expendable. said:I wouldn't go as far as "its terrible" but it could be the most overpraised film of the year. I saw it at TIFF, before the praise, and thought it was simply mediocre. I still don't get the massive appeal of Stone, and I even loved Superbad/Zombieland. Maybe Spidey will change my mind.

Yeah, the reason he hates this movie must be that he's sexist. Great job.Koodo said:Greenberg has a snide, sarcastic, naturally negative male character that you like, and those same traits on a female character produces displeasure.
Hmm.
Forceatowulf said:Yeah, I'm pretty much done with GAF's taste in these type of movies.
They hyped up Juno like a motherfucker and I was sorely disappointed.
I just don't get GAF some times.
That's the majority of people that watch movies.Solstice said:I love threads like this. It lets me scope out who has bad taste.

sefskillz said:Watched it last night and it was brutal to sit through. Was really surprised, since I'd heard overwhelming positive things about it. The parents were pretty much the only scenes I liked. Some decent quips scattered throughout, but most of the dialogue hovered around piss poor TV quality. Sure, I'll take it over another National Lampoon's shit fest, but that doesn't make it good.
Skiptastic said:I kind of had this response myself. I had heard such good things and I like Emma Stone, so I was pretty disappointed throughout. I loved the Pocketful of Sunshine part, and there were other times where I was laughing in the movie, but overall, most of it didn't ring true or keep me laughing. It was like a weird combo of Mean Girls and Saved!, which were good enough on their own to not need a combination movie.
The other thing that got me was the depiction of high school life. Man, I never dated in high school, kept to myself pretty much, moved from the only home I knew halfway in between, and all that shit, but my high school life seemed like a fucking picnic to half of the goddamn people in this movie. Even the "popular" kids seemed to be miserable. Maybe I was just blissfully ignorant during high school? *shrug*
Meh, I preferred Somewhere's Twilight gag.matt404au said:"Hi, I'm looking for the Bible."
"Oh, that's in the best sellers section, right next to Twilight."
The movie is great for this alone.
The Other Guys has the best end credits this year so... sorry, no way.Stumpokapow said:Excellent end credits sequence, probably the best I've seen since Michael Clayton.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm dying to see Emma Stone own the role. I'm sure I'll agree with the consensus.

That attitude probably made you miss one of the best dark comedies of the last few years, Observe And Report.Kruhex said:Can't stand comedies like these or those seth rogan ones or those get to the greek crap. I'll take dark comedy like The Burbs over this kind of stuff any day.
