Easy A is a terrible movie

I enjoyed the film as well, and I went in thinking it was going to be terrible. The only reason I agreed to watch it with the gf was because of its RT rating. I had no idea neogaf had a hard on for the movie.

But I thought it was pretty funny, especially compared to the other comedies that came out this year. 2010 was AWFUL in that regard. Come to think of it, how was this film not nominated for a Golden Globe. They gave it to Red instead?! :lol (I enjoyed that movie as well though.)

I think they were aiming for something along the lines of great teen comedies like Clueless or Mean Girls. But the final product wasn't that good. Emma Stone was a standout in the film though.

Watched it last night and it was brutal to sit through. Was really surprised, since I'd heard overwhelming positive things about it. The parents were pretty much the only scenes I liked. Some decent quips scattered throughout, but most of the dialogue hovered around piss poor TV quality. Sure, I'll take it over another National Lampoon's shit fest, but that doesn't make it good.

i really enjoyed it. the parent scenes did ring a bit false by trying to be too wacky without rooting that to believable character reactions, but i found emma stone to be great. nice to see a strong female lead in these kind of films who isn't either boring or entirely vacuous, and i found her personality witty and enjoyable to watch. for a film in genre defined by dull cliche it felt surprisingly fresh, while also knowing what genre it was in and having fun with that fact.

I was expecting something so much better than what it actually was. :( Emma Stone was expectedly great but the movie just didn't do anything for me and it pales in comparison to the films it's being compared to.
I felt exactly the same way. It was certainly no Mean Girls. Stone's performance ultimately made it worth watching, but only just.

I wouldn't go as far as "its terrible" but it could be the most overpraised film of the year. I saw it at TIFF, before the praise, and thought it was simply mediocre. I still don't get the massive appeal of Stone, and I even loved Superbad/Zombieland. Maybe Spidey will change my mind.

Hated it. Didnt like Juno all that much either. Loved Mean Girls though.
And is Lisa Kudrow the most typecasted actress in Hollywood?

I dont get that either.

She tells the story to her webcam, so the strange behavior of the parents and some other characters doesn't bother me. It's just the way she is telling her story and who describes their parent's as normal human beings at that age.

Not a great movie, but I don't regret seeing it.

Going by the trailer and the scenes i've seen i would probably hate it. So i stay away from it.

That, and the horrible Tom Cruise quip at the end of the trailer is played out to be the most hilarious shit written in a film script.

Did Easy A even have its own thread? How are people getting the idea that some large part of Gaf loved it when there's like 10 people saying it was a good movie in the Spider-man thread and that's about it?

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with GAF's taste in these type of movies.

They hyped up Juno like a motherfucker and I was sorely disappointed.

I just don't get GAF some times.

Greenberg has a snide, sarcastic, naturally negative male character that you like, and those same traits on a female character produces displeasure.

Hmm.
Yeah, the reason he hates this movie must be that he's sexist. Great job.

To be fair, Juno was hyped EVERYWHERE. It's still a fantastic movie, just not one you may have on repeat.

Haven't seen the movie based soley on the fact that the girl who plays 'Easy A' has a face (mouth, specifically), that makes me want to slam my head through a wall.

I thought it was great fun and Emma Stone was superb as Olive. Funny girl

And the gay guy was great! and the parents, haha

And I actually saw Mean Girls for the first time the same day. I think Mean Girls is a bit better, but Easy A had some terrific scenes.

If you didn't like Olive though, I can totally understand why you didn't like it. She's basically the movie. But I seriously think you misinterpreted the character.

Can't stand comedies like these or those seth rogan ones or those get to the greek crap. I'll take dark comedy like The Burbs over this kind of stuff any day.

I kind of had this response myself. I had heard such good things and I like Emma Stone, so I was pretty disappointed throughout. I loved the Pocketful of Sunshine part, and there were other times where I was laughing in the movie, but overall, most of it didn't ring true or keep me laughing. It was like a weird combo of Mean Girls and Saved!, which were good enough on their own to not need a combination movie.

The other thing that got me was the depiction of high school life. Man, I never dated in high school, kept to myself pretty much, moved from the only home I knew halfway in between, and all that shit, but my high school life seemed like a fucking picnic to half of the goddamn people in this movie. Even the "popular" kids seemed to be miserable. Maybe I was just blissfully ignorant during high school? *shrug*

We're all miserable on the inside.

I was marginally interested in this when I saw a trailer in the theater, until they literally said "so at the same time we just so happened to be reading this book called the Scarlet Letter".

I was like "aaaaaand there goes all subtlety out the window, and with it my interest"

"Hi, I'm looking for the Bible."

"Oh, that's in the best sellers section, right next to Twilight."

The movie is great for this alone.

How funny I just watched this last night.
Your right it is truly a shitty movie I don't know what the reviews are talking about.

I love how the whole premise of the movie is based around a rumor that nobody in any school post 1950 would give a shit about. Still she looked pretty hot a couple times.

Hell yes.

This movie was about a 6 for me. I laughed at a few of the jokes, but on a whole it was completely overrated. Everyone was saying that this was some amazing movie and it was just not done that well.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm dying to see Emma Stone own the role. I'm sure I'll agree with the consensus.

It must be the genders of the characters rather than their respective places in life. It must be sexism.

What is with everyone's love for mean girls? I didn't enjoy that movie at all...

Wow. Really? Mean Girls is golden. I love everything about it and I've been mostly disappointed with Tina Fey ever since.

High school is pretty shitty for a lot of people.

I dont think people really realize it until after the fact. at least I didnt.

That attitude probably made you miss one of the best dark comedies of the last few years, Observe And Report.

I liked it well enough. As for the Juno comparrisons, ugh, no. Juno was terrible, never have I seen a movie try so hard and fail.
