At least they're raising their scores. I remember when Next Generation magazine (Edge's old, dead US counterpart) lowered some scores. That's classless.
But yeah, Dark Souls was an easy mark for greatness (or at least wild popularity among the hardcore). Pretty sad to miss it at the time.

As for the list, I wouldn't put the 360 that high but I don't get the shock at it being higher than the PS3. The 360 has been shit for the past couple of years, sure, but it was fantastic for the first five years and the PS3 was a joke for the first couple. The 360 did things with online integration in 2005 that Sony is only getting to with the PS4. The third-party libraries are similar but until recently it was a safe bet that the 360 versions would be better.

I'd argue this and point to uncharted 2. For better or worse the cinematic gameplay set piece experience that took hold this gen was all because if this game.

Except that the system was still being made, sold and supported in 1993. So it should be on a list reflecting the 10 best consoles of the past 20 years. Even if you only consider games that came out starting in 1993 it would be on this list.

They gave Shenmue a cover, should've went the whole way and revised its score to a 10 too.

This'll be my first issue since #210. Happy to come back, always loved their specials. I got the Shenmue cover for #200, and while it was ugly, I hope it's a different game this time. It kinda depends on the store where I buy it :|

A top 10 lists of consoles that came out in the last 20 years does not include include a console that came out 21+ years ago. How could EDGE be so dumb?
Unless we count the SNES model 2 or something but that would make it feel like its inclusion is pandering to retro fans...

I'm pretty sure that cut off was just to prevent them apologising for Gunstar Heroes score again (They gave it 6/10. They have been apologising ever since)

Some opinions are more valuable than others. There is no set list, but the gulf between the 360 and the PS3 when the vast majority of their content is shared is laughable.
People have already brought up numerous times the almost complete lack of historical insight that the list displays.

I don't really care about the specifics of the rest of the list, but the DS is definitely at least number 3/4. It was the PS2 of handhelds. It had pretty much EVERYTHING.

If you literally can't find a retailer, you might be able to ask someone to buy it for you? Problem is if their local WH Smith/equivalent might only have a few issues total on the shelf.

Some people won't be happy until reviewers or publications they believe are wrong are eliminated from the earth and put in the stockade for people to throw rocks at, Lottery style, because they might have gave a video game a slightly lower score than they believe it deserved.
As for the 360 vs PS3, I own neither and haven't read the magazine, but it's fairly obvious what the reason is - the infrastructure, including online, achievements, and everything else. Whether you like it or not, all of that is far more important in the long run for a console's legacy than what games it had.
