Eee Pad Transformer - Tablet/Netbook super device

My Father-in-Law bought a cheap ass tablet yesterday and after some grief finally accepted that it would be better for all concerned if he took it back and spent a little more on something better.

He wants to use it as a Kindle to read books and watch films/tv stuff on, probably a little browsing.

I know a fair bit about the TF101 as I looked at them around launch, and the same with the new one which my dad bought.

How suitable is the Tf101 going to be for the purposes indicated for a man who, if he had been the first monkey to climb out of the trees, would have climbed back up again.

Any glaring issues with the hardware/software that are going to cause me a headache when he breaks it?

Nexus 7 is a better buy - if you can buy it in your country.
This tablet is a bit heavy, compared to other newer 10 inchers.

Yeah Chrome feels more stable. I guess it was Asus fault after all.
 
Hopefully this will fix the random reboots and the random turning itself on problems that I still have. Hate coming back to my tablet only to find it dead because it turned itself on.
 
Was planning to get a TF101 or TF201 for my GF, which is preferred? I got her a Viewsonic Gtablet and the viewing angles are atrocious, so I want to replace it with something better. Weight and viewing angles are the major concern.
 
Unless she wants the dock and/or 10'' tablet, I'd recommend just getting her a Nexus 7. I'd wager that TF101 at least is pretty much finished getting official OS updates.

What makes you say that? It's been consistently getting updates since it launched. No reason to see why it won't get Jelly Bean.

It is ASUS's most popular tablet.
 
Anyone else getting stuttery overall performance doing HDMI out ever since ICS?

On Honeycomb everything was smooth as butter, but now? My Robert Broglia emulators all lag like a mother. Very weird. I've tried many different things, cables, TV's...Same thing. Flip back to Honeycomb? No issue.

It's a matter of when it would get 4.1 and how well it would be implemented. Asus' TF101 ICS has been unstable since it first updated. I miss how smooth mine was when it had Honeycomb.

Nexus 7 is a much better bet for smooth and consistent performance on those newer android versions, excluding custom roms.

I was at the point of where I had to revert back to HC for the past few months because ICS on my TF was so unstable, but the last couple of ICS updates from ASUS have the thing working better than ever now.

But in no way is stock HC smoother than stock ICS right now on this tablet, and that is coming from someone who has been on HC longer than ICS. hehe



Nexus 7 is newer tech too...It looks like a great device but I like my 10 inches with the SDcard slot too much to switch. ;)
 
If Nexus 7 had that sd slot, I would have bought one by now. Google/Amazon shouldn't force people into the cloud if their devices don't support 3G/4G.

They thankfully got rid of the "EEE" in branding, so I assumed that Transformer Pad was TF101, and Tranformer Pad Prime is TF201. Might be wrong, though.
 
I think they'll provide an update.

If not, well then I'm not buying anything else Asus....until padfone 2, and my N7 doesn't count. Nor does the mobo I'm probably using on a computer.

But after that, no thank you Asus!

We need to deny this is clear. Colleagues from the Netherlands have made no statement about TF101/SL101, but merely confirmed that a Jelly Bean TF201/TF300/TF700 update be received. The converse, in that is not a TF101/SL101 JB update received are false and pure speculation. According to current knowledge, even users of older TF101/SL101 to benefit from a Android 4.1 update to come.

My buddy just got a Nexus 7 and was already preparing the burial services for his Transformer 101, this just justified it for him even more.

That said, Cyanogen Mod 10 with Jelly Bean has a preview version out for the TF101 as we speak.
 
My charger cable is broken and I can't find the replacement I got a while back. Can ayone confirm if the Transformer Prime cable connects to the older TF?

Tunas (Galaxy Nexus phones) ship with a different kernel (LeanKernel 4.5.0), you might need to reset your Color/CPU settings in ROMControl. Do it if you encounter any weird colors (usually green) on your screen.
Grouper (Nexus 7) includes the stock kernel from Google

TF101 was just added. I haven't tried it yet as I just flashed Liquid Smooth, but seeing as how adjusting widget size in Nova Launcher causes the launcher to turn invisible, I'm probably going to flash this.
 
Not even sure if anyone here even uses this anymore. My original tf101 eventually suffered an accident that destroyed the gorilla glass, even though it still worked. I bought a used one and was hoping to sell the old one, as apparently people were paying decent money for it on Ebay. Thankfully I didn't, as the used one I bought suddenly died for no reason, wouldn't power on or go into APX mode. Couldn't get it to work no matter what.

I got the idea that I can the good screen from the used unit (hoping that the screen wasn't the issue), and replace the innards with the old one with the cracked scrfeen that still worked. I have to say, these things are really tightly constructed. Was a bitch getting everything disconnected and taken out.

After taking a part both units, I started to place everything back together and discovered that the TF101's internal memory is actually attached somewhere and the chassis that holds the screen and the digitizer. So essentially I replaced the GPS/Wifi, battery, charge connector, HDMI/audio/SDcard board and volume/power switch board. I'm wondering if I can somewhere attach both memory units to the same TF101 and have double the storage.

I was actually kind of hoping it wouldn't work out so I could convince myself to get another tablet, but I already have the keyboard dock, so that would go to waste, unless I sold it for a decent price. At least I have spare parts just in case some part of this thing dies again.
