Once thought he had some good critical thinking.

Then watched Game Grumps and realised he was a nostalgia obsessed idiot that cant reach conclusions very well.

The whole point of the OP is that he's wasting his potential by making lazy videos for this new target audience he's created to serve his laziness. The people that watched his animations in the first place and helped him rise to 'fame' now see him spewing out videos where he sits on his arse and moans about computer games and they think "why doesn't he create cool shit anymore?".

The one where Jontron just keeps using racial slurs (though censored) was the last episode of Game Grumps I watched.

Not necessarily because of that, but it didn't help.

I don't think I have ever understood the idea that Egoraptor is this once-in-a-generation game design genius. His analysis about Mega Man X was pretty good, but it's nothing a lot of people couldn't articulate if they spent a few hours trying to analyze the opening level. Silent tutorials aren't new and a lot of good games from that era did them in similar ways. I can't help but imagine that the reasons that video caught fire is almost entirely related to presentation.

But, eh. Whatever. Those two make a ton of money being loud, screaming assholes over game footage. If it's not an all-too-real metaphor for how embarrassing gaming culture can be, then I shudder to think how much further it can go.
 
Only familiar with some of his animations and have never watched Gamegrumps as I found it pretty annoying. Although I did enjoy some of the Sonic videos.

What are some examples of him being factually incorrect or contradictory about games though? Is he one of those "Man, past the N64 era games have been shit" people?

He's said many times that he admires Louis CK and I think he thinks that because Louis used those words in stand up he can. He forgets that Louis was using them in a joke though not saying them for shock value(or whatever)

Thanks for that confirmation. At least I know he wasn't being racist or anything, he was just saying the N word which I don't find offensive. Though it is quite weird that he says it so much in his videos seeing as how he's supposed to be a youtube star and is supposed to show some sort of professionalism. I'm black and barely if ever say the N word so I definitely don't say it in my videos for professionalism.
 
Let him do what he wants to do, he shouldn't be a slave to his "potential" if he doesn't want to be. He's happy making Game Grumps and that's alright.

I know WHY he did it, and to be honest, I can't say I would turn down tens of thousands of dollars a year playing Number Muncher and Mavis Bacon all day, with an occasional Live action video of me derping around. 154 Million hits from Hand Crafting Flash Videos Over 5 years, Or 151 Million Hits from Recording yourself playing Videogames in 1 Year? I can see the temptation.

It's like If Barrack Obama Dropped out of the Presidential Campaign in Oct 2008 because he was offered a Position as a Boy Scout Troop Leader (And he REALLY wanted that spot for years, it's kind of his dream). Sure, it's not the worst thing you could do, Egoraptor didn't 'Sell out' and start whoring himself out for some company or execs, but so much potential, right down the drain.

I don't really follow him, but I've enjoyed the few videos done by him that I've managed to watch over the years.

I didn't know he was big enough to have a large anti-fanbase though.
 
I never saw anything he did before Game Grumps. Started watching because of JonTron but I'm getting tired of it. Watched it when it first came out but became a bit disinterested when I fell behind on the daily videos. Started watching certain games a few days ago (Banjo-Kazooie and Animal Crossing, specifically) and I'm already regretting it. From what I've watched over both instances, they barely play the game and are just super obnoxious on the microphone. I'm not into their sort of humor anymore. I'm more interested in the games but meh, not even worth the time anymore.
 
Never really watched their videos, but that thing they did with Grant Kirkhope (that was linked on here a few days ago) was good.
 
I caught wind of him through the Megaman video, but nothing else since has hooked my attention.

The only reason I get into Game Grumps these days is less because of them playing and more because of the dynamic, which is why I believe there's a lot of disconnect between early things like Goof Troop and recent single player oriented games. You can tell that Ego and Jon are good at shooting the shit and them being rather humble people makes their constant interactions work to a relative degree. Any con-goer can attest to them being cool people to be with.

Sonic 06 is the only playthrough I've really grown tired of because unlike the pokecapn playthrough they're not subjecting themselves to it in one sitting with a group that makes it easier to keep the discussion afloat. It's clear that for them sitting down and taking one day a week recording episodes for it is a bit of a chore when they'd rather play other games, and also unlike pokecapn none of them are Sonic fans. Unless they're enjoying it, it's not as interesting to watch.

That said I haven't been that big of a fan of Egoraptor, even though I like his stuff. I always got the impression of him being something of an inapproachable snob during his early days of animating and being popular but I think him being open about his public appearances has made him seem just more of a pleasant person to me.

I think similar of JonTron since I've always been a fan and he used to be incredibly enthused about most of his work and do a lot of positive videos, which were a breath of fresh air. Nowadays though, not so much. I miss his older videos like the DinoCity video and Top 20 SNES Games. Granted, videos like Kings Quest, Nightshade and Birdemic allowed for some absolutely hilarious moments and gags.

But anyway yeah, I watch Game Grumps for the dynamic these days because I enjoy both of the guys and I just enjoy listening to them. They're good at keeping up discussion pace, just wish they actually focused on the games too.

I hate Jon, but people calling him a racist is hilarious. "Look, black people!" quip was clearly ironic, which whether you like it or not or find it funny, is a form of humor and doesn't make him a racist. He is actually mocking racists, they're the butt of the joke in humor like that. The whole pop a cap in that nigga thing was weird, but not racist and if you're so easily offended at that I seriously hope you don't look at the rest of YouTube.

I really hate both of them. They are on the same annoying level as iJustine and PewDiePie.

Second post in the thread is this time the best one, I laughed at some of the "Awesome xxxx" videos .. but they are pretty old and even there are some really bad ones
 
To me, if he dropped the whole grumps and cartoons thing to do a 9-5 regular-joe uncreative job, that would be wasting his potential. Game Grumps is relevant to his brand and its a smart move to develop it and focus on it at this time. Even if it means people see behind the curtain and realise he's just a regular jack-off gamer like all of us and not the game critic messiah they thought him to be.
 
I liked Game Grumps to begin with, but then they both started to get rather annoying with their complete refusal to pay attention to what instructions the games give them which led to almost entire videos with them wandering around aimlessly going 'HURRR I DON'T NO WAT TO DO TURRIBLE GAME LOL'. The Naughty Bear episode was a watershed for me. I realised I just didn't care to watch anymore.

I find it amusing that even though they both said GG wouldn't detract from their own independent work, both Jon and Arin's output has decreased significantly in both quality and frequency. That's a shame for those of us who've enjoyed Jon's videos and Ego's cartoons up to then.
 
I don't know what any of this means?

Who is he? What does he do? What is he doing right now that makes his potential wasted?
 
I don't know about his "potential", but I've only ever watched his Game Grumps stuff, and its just awful. Two "zany" "wacky" guys screaming at each other playing shitty games.

Maybe his older stuff was good but I just don't care enough to find out.

But I agree that Game Grumps and JonTron is holding back Ego's potential, if they stop GG, Jon is the big loser in all that, not Ego. Who knew JonTron before Egoraptor announced Game Grumps in his channel, serious question.

I could of sworn he made some questionable racial quips in his old videos. Don't remember which though, until I watch em all again I guess.

I don't know, does he really think that or maybe trying to make some kind of joke? I don't know, just -- questionable. And I'm sure that wasn't the first time either.


And while I'm at it I found Nostalgia Critic's remark about how the black girl is only sensible one in this movie, being a tiny bit on the questionable side. Like "what you trying to say?" kind of thing.

Not KKK level here, just raise your eyebrow commentary is all I'm saying for now.

JonTron was fairly popular before Ego and Game Grumps. And I like JonTron's "recent" video output a lot more than Ego's lately.
 
Eh, personally I haven't been able to watch the Grumps in awhile. It's more due to the content of their actual videos than anything else.

For instance, I get that Sonic '06 is a bad game. I get that it is very plodding at many, many points. But it gets to the point where they just don't pay attention to some of the game's funny moments, or just spend minutes walking around in circles because they're shooting the shit about the most random things possible. If they want to get a podcast, than just get a podcast, I would be fine with that. But when they're putting up actual game videos, yet everything they are talking about is simply background noise, I don't even see the point.
