Real talk, people who are swayed by the term AAAA deserve to be parted with their money.

I am not even pissed as it is a litmus test for complete fucking idiots.

I hope they charge $90 bucks for what amounts to another Skull and Bones.

I doubt many developers actually even use the AAA\AA thing, it's more of a forums\social media thing.
You never know. There might be an industry grading.

During the PS1 era, a game store I visited had a binder of all games listed. I remember asking about NHL and he said it was AAA. Then other hockey games he had in his binder he said that shitty Saturn All Star hockey game was a B+ grade. NHL wasnt even out yet and got cancelled year one, but he still had it as coming soon at the time. He had this for all games. And it didnt seem like the manager did the grading himself as he was looking up the stuff like a newbie like he got the grades from someone else.

Never seen that before at a game store.

But I'm thinking what happened is got a guide sheet from a wholesaler to give him an idea which games are good and will sell.

1: Probably a typo, meant to be AAA

2: They have been extremely whittled down as a studio and do not have the manpower for a new AAA game, they are likely serving as a support studio for whatever game it is

The only AAAA games are rockstar games because their production values trump even the most costly AAA by 10x times.

It's the only time that term make sense.
Again there i no such thing. The term is from the Bond credit rating scale where "AAA" refers to a product that represents a 0-risk long term investment.
"Negative risk" doesn't exactly exist lol

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would be nice. The first one was massively underrated.

If there were two games in the last 5 years that I wish sold a lot better than it would be FFVII Rebirth and Guardians of the Galaxy.

can someone give me a breakdown of what the difference between an A, AA, AAA and AAAA game is. Is it just how much money is thrown at it?

World of Warcraft could also easily count as one when it first came out in 2004 with its scope, hype, and wow factor.

It's easily the most impressive game ever judging from what they managed to do for its time. Way more impressive than any gta game for their time as well as crysis, or Witcher 3 or Skyrim during their release.

It'll be like if Star Citzen managed to officially launch fully over 6 years ago. Actually not even as Star Citzen still won't have the interesting lore, setting, characters, and iconic stuff of Warcraft.

Blizzard was unstoppable during its golden age from StarCraft, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, its earlier expansions, and Stsrcraft 2

Wait, do people at these dumbass companies actually use AAAA as a term now?

I would think they'd want to distance themselves from a term that's only attached to failing garbage.

The AAAA term is still a thing?
Yes, for them means game with a budget considerably bigger than the average current AAA game. AAA means large budget game, there aren't specific numbers for these definitions because the budgets increase evey generation. But this generation AAA would mean pretty likely over $100-150M. Under this there would be the AA games, with a medium sized budget of some dozens of millions.

These are top companies in their industry who have their industry jargon. They aren't a dumbass random gaming forum user who has no idea what he's talking about.

Playing through Deus Ex HR right now, and I don't understand the praise. Prey is much a better imm-sim; Deus EX HR feels extremely restrictive comparatively (inventory, map layout, etc.).

Splinter Cell, Deus Ex, or bust
Embracer owns that now, so I doubt they're working on anything related to Deus Ex.

And the last AAAA game we've seen was Perfect Dark, which looked like a AA studio's first attempt at a AAA game and not succeeding. Then everyone was fired and the studio was deleted. I wish them better luck in the highly volatile AAAA space.

P11 is Eidos Montreal's new IP, which, according to sources, has been in development since around 2019 and has faced significant setbacks and issues along the way. It's understood that the project has seen hundreds of millions of dollars invested, which, unsurprisingly, would warrant the 'AAAA' tag.
As mentioned on the Insider Gaming podcast, the game is an open-world action-adventure game in third-person.

What kind of games do Eidos have in their history that could be called AAAA? Tomb Raider?
Any game can be called "AAAAA" (or "AAAA", I didn't really count the As) as this is a budgetary indicator and not a franchise or quality one.
If you've spent 1bln on a 2D arcade game then it's "AAAAA".

Someone explain to them that the quality of the game and the battery model have nothing in common, and that adding more A doesn't change anything...

Eidos Montreal belongs to Embracer. A Deus Ex would be possible, but it was reported that they cancelled it...so I really wouldnt have high hopes.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I must have got wires crossed there.
