Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, a full-sized expansion pack

Best wait for a greatest hits version. Remains a must buy in my book with or without a disc, really not a selling point for me. It's all about the content.

Probably what I'll end up doing.

yeah, $30 seems kinda high to me...
It's the same price the two Morrowind expansions were at, IIRC, and has more content.

Given that most games I buy don't get 40-60 hours of play time in total, I don't see $30 as an unfair request given the content. The expansion is literally larger than all but one RPG I've played - and that would be Oblivion.

If your console is replaced, all DLC you bought can then be no longer used offline. Only when you are actively signed into Live can you use Arcade games/DLC you bought before the console switch.

I think if you call MS support after you 360 is sent back, you can relink the content to your new console (you have to redownload it once, IIRC). Also, isn't the content linked to the harddrive, not to the console itself ?

it's linked to the console. i had my 360 replaced but kept my old hard drive. when i got my new one hooked up my dlc will only work if i'm signed in with my main account. i've called ms a couple times to try to get it fixed and they act like they don't know what i'm talking about.

anybody know the magic words to get a better rep and a fix on the dlc issues?

This is why I'm scared of the digital download future.

Same price, no pricedrops, no sales, no resale value.

Considering there is no packaging at all with the game, there really is no reason for this to be the same price as the PC version. Packaging is pretty expensive for games, should have been at least 5 bucks less on X360.

I'm pretty sure it's linked to your profile (gamertag). These profiles are stored online and remember what you have 'bought'.

Therefore if you get a new console, but you restore your profile on it, either because you had it on a MU or via getting your gamertag back, you will have acces to all the content you previously downloaded.

This also means that you will be able to use content you downloaded on other consoles. So you can take your profile to friends and use for example a full arcade game, that otherwhilse they would have as demo's on their hard disc, etc.

But apperantly there are people with different experiences?

If you switch systems, you have to be online to use it. If you log off of live, you can't access it anymore.

Indeed, that is one reason I thought it might be a bit cheaper. Also you have to count shipping and all that as well, who knows.

Just keep trying until you get a rep who's willing to help you. Be nice. Most of them don't give a **** or don't have any idea what's going on. Be persistent. If nice doesn't work, get mean. If mean doesn't work, start sending certified letters. If that doesn't work, file a small claims suit. It's a game of persistence. The only way you can lose is if you give up.

BTW, $30 is way too much. That's what they charged for the GOTY version of Morrowind which included the full game plus add-ons. Considering that you don't own the content, plus there's no retailer/distribution/packaging costs, $30 is ridiculous. They're dreamin'.

Wrong. Most game packaging (ie standard, non collector edition) is cheaper than you would imagine, especially when you have an economy of scale that orders of 50,000-100,000-150,000 at a time provide.

Disc plus manual plus box less, putting it all together and shipping less than 5 bucks?

You get none of the above with digital download, and pay the same price. Doesn't seem right to me but we'll see what the market bears.

i didn't see anyone answer this, but i'm pretty sure you can call MS and have them fix that by recreditting your account with MS points so that you can re-buy all the same content again...

i know a few people who've gotten this done already.

Yes, quite a bit less than 5 bucks, depending on the size of the run.

Point is, regardless of the cost savings from elimination of physical media, people will be charged whatever the market will bear. Practical case-in-point, iTunes/record companies. Digital downloads are freed from physical manufacture, and yet they cost as much or more per song than they would if you went out and bought a CD on sale (or even OFF sale, many times). PLUS the digital version of the song has inferior dynamics and all sorts of restrictions (and they keep trying to add more) that the CD does not have.

Other source which is slow as hell: http://elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm

I have seen few scenes already in 1up show. oh man, it's so close. End of this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, that's a hot trailer. Can't wait, grabbing my points this weekend. That voice acting from the main guy their sounds familiar. Oh I think I know who it is, Grimly from the Lord of the Rings.

I'm not sure why MS doesn't just make it so that you can "deauthorize" the old system you're using for DLC/XBLA games, sorta like how you can with itunes songs.

Then you can just sign in once on the new system and "reregister" it with that, and allow you to use it offline from that point forward. They're obviously able to track the serial number for your system, so it would seem that would make more sense. Something like:

initial DLC is registered to gamertag soul shot ya, system id: 1234. This is stored somewhere on MS's servers, along with being written directly to your Live profile.

*system breaks*

afterwards, soul shot ya attempts to use content on replacement system id: 5678. Have user sign in once to register DLC for 5678 (and deauthorize 1234 on MS's servers and your Live profile), but then from that point forward, you don't need to be signed into live (because it's written to your profile also)

wouldn't that make sense and essentially have the same sort of security? I guess technically someone with a 3rd party HD or memory card reader can hack the offline profile, but that's relatively rare. As it currently stands, you tend to piss off the legit customers, rather than deterring "piracy" or whatever.

Eh, that's DRM for you I guess.

So that price isn't too bad, considering how much playtime I got out of the original. But what is all this talk about having to micropurchase a house in Shivering Isle?

You guys are speculating yes?

$30 is a normal price for a full expansion, which this is. Stop bitching folks.

Plus the daM doG Sheogorath is my favorite Daedra Prince!

Rain of Burning Dogs - never forget.

Given the content of the expansion, it's fair. IIRC, it's the same price as the Morrowind expansions. There is an argument for a lower price on Marketplace for the download, but I don't think PC gamers would be happy at the lack of parity in the pricing. Plus, on Marketplace there's Microsoft's take on the downloads that we don't know the price of.

That trailer is very nice. Very.

Dang. They just went and followed the same script as the main game.

Indeed, but if this quest line is anything like the Dark Brotherhood I'll be mucho happy. Loved that one for it's sheer craziness.

Those are some lousy achievements
They followed the main game's formula a bit too much. I'm disappointed that they misused the opportunity they had to get more creative with them.

Ditto. With so much extra content, I was hoping for some creative ones. Oh well, I'll have to make up my own.

The Mortician: Slay every citizen to fill up the graveyard with markers.

:D I approve of this suggestion.

Re-do them Steve... you still have time!

Man, no kidding. You unlock an achievement just by purchasing the game. Come on, Beth... how about some creativity. How I long for the good old days, when you actually had to EARN your props.

"My name is Gato,
I have metal joints.

Beat me up,
and earn 15 silver points!"

Yeah. New achievements aren't that creative. That's OK. May be it's because MS revealed new achievement policy little bit late in Shivering Isles development cycle.
(assumption: MS didn't share idea of their new plan in advance with any developers).

I think we should use our official oblivion thread when this ships, so it becomes one giant reference thread for all things Oblivion.

Man, I just played that game again, not long ago.

Kinda late, but a few days ago I turned on Oblivion and was prompted to update, I did, and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. What did it change/fix?

As for the expansion...will it drop in price over time? Considering they cut out some of the middle men by providing it online with no actual physical item going to the customer, I thought it would be cheaper. 2400pts, especially for me here in Canada ($40 at retail), is too steep a price for an expansion.

Must be a bug going around. I just played two weeks ago. :)

Hey, I've got one for Steve to throw in -

"My name is Sheogorath,
they say that I'm insane.

I give away achievement points
just for buying my game"

Might be old fix that wasn't applied to your game.

Got a couple questions about Shivering Isles. If I buy the retail disc for 360 and want to create a new character to use for the expansion, can I do that without having to use my old Oblivion disc? Also, can I do the Fighter's Stronghold and Knights of the Nine without having to use my old Oblivion disc?
