Update: Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Online is delayed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The company assures that it is working as quickly as possible to get the game to console players, but that it could take up to six additional months.

The delay stems from integrating the MMO systems with each of the online networks run by Microsoft and Sony. "We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms," a statement on the company's website reads. "Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks -- which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process."

As a gesture of good will, Bethesda has made an arrangement with both Sony and Microsoft to get players into the game now on PC with a discount on console versions when they are released. If you purchase The Elder Scrolls Online before the end of June, you'll be eligible for a full version of the game on PS4 or Xbox One for only $20 (payable when those versions are available). This includes the ability to transfer characters over and another 30 days of game time.

I wonder if difficulty finishing one version is holding the other one back. The whole release date parity and all that.

It's already too late. My interest has plummeted since the PC release.

If they're still charging for the game when it releases on consoles, I'll wait for PS+.

I don't think lot of people are interested in this. 60$ for game and on top of that monthly subscription fee. I mean common?

How did this game do on Xbox 360/PS3. Any data?

six more months.

it will be f2p by then.

How certain are we on this? Have they posted an "We will shut down before we go F2P" type statement like FFXIV game director did. I mean, I would definitely wait for the F2P model if it's a possibility but if not, I'll just watch it die.

And I thought it was out already on PS4. If I'm lacking interest now that is only going to get worse 6 months from now when there may, presumably, be some actual games to play for these consoles.

At least I won't have to chose between FFXIV and ESO subs. Two subs per month is just too much, and maybe I'll be bored with FFXIV by then. So far I love it on PS4 though.

So, they'll transfer your PC character over to your platform of choice, but the game servers are still locked to that platform? I know MS is difficult to work with when it comes to cross-platform play, but I still don't know why the PS4 version is also locked down in that regard.

Is it delay because of Microsoft parity clause? I don't remember the game is slated for Xbox One. Was Bethesda complaining about Microsoft policy?

Either way, the $20 deal is probably not going to make much impact in enticing new owners.

Mediocre beta reviews and a strong FF14 PS4 launch shoved any interest I had in this game off a very high ledge. Now their delaying it on console. From what I gather this game isn't doing too hot to begin with. If it goes f2p I might check it out.

Like shit Bethesda would delay for quality concerns, look at the fucking PC launch of TES:O, as well as Fallout 3/New Vegas.

This has to be for a change of plans, aka F2P.

Was always slated for Xbox One. Probably will end up getting this. I just wish there wasn't a sub.

If you're buying the game for PC I'm assuming you have a PC that can run the game.

Why the hell would you then run out and buy it for a console?

are the servers supposed to be combined for this (ala FFXIV) or separate (ala everything else)

hey kid you wanna spend $80 on a subscriber MMO?

Plus you would still need to spend more money to get the collectors edition content

Separate. This has just confirmed my own opinion that I'm glad I went with FFXIV 2.0 as my MMO of choice.

Sorry for those who were looking forward to ESO. I was too before the fat chocobos got me in FFXIV.

Wait. So, will my character of whatever level I make it to on the PC, will it be transferred to my Xbox too? I thought it was all separate from each other? So $20 to start over on console? Man, wtf... I love me some TES lore but this is a bit much... For once, I agree with others, I'll wait for the F2P system to happen.

And if Usobuko is right in saying it's MS "parity" policy then I really need to make a Twitter account and blow up Phil's line.

I don't think anyone knows yet but in an interview with YoshiP the reason FFXIV never came to the Xbox One was due to Microsoft's online policy and that they wouldn't allow for any cross platform play. I think if Bethesda decided to have the PS4 and PC versions cross play Sony would be more than willing to go for it.

Separate on all platforms.

and I'm out. I've genuinely been gut wrenched at all the horrible news that has come out for this game, and this is sadly the final straw. To be "offered" to buy it now to be able to get the PS4 version later but NOT be able to play my same character on either PC or PS4 as I find convenient?

Kind of bummed actually. Oh well, back to FFXIV.

ah yes. another reason why I don't game on xbox. Square is on the verge of getting another sale from me just so I can play on PC if the TV is being used and I don't want to bother moving the PS4 or do Remote Play.

That explains A LOT! Man, FFXIV wouldn't have as huge a community if it wasn't cross-platform play!

If you have the PC version why then buy the ps4 version, Game isn't worth the sub let alone buying the game twice, But they need to make back that $200 million somehow.

Probably some platform parity nonsense. I bet if it wasn't releasing on Xbox one this wouldn't be an issue.

I've been doing a lot of studying and analysis on game industry business lately, specifically Nintendo. Anyway, this is so fucking ass backwards.

Why would anyone interested in the console version, with a capable PC, buy it for PC now, at full price, in order to buy the game, again, six months later, for another $20...especially when they're already playing it on their goddamn PC?!?!?!

Holy shit. It's mind boggling. This isn't a bargain at all. Fire the person who thought this was a good idea, please. It's utterly stupid.

There's no chance I'll be getting this now. After a lukewarm reception and now a release around the same time as other games that are sure to be better, there's no way this game will get my attention. Especially if it's still $15 a month by 2015.

Because some people prefer playing games on a console? Or have friends on a console they want to play with? And therefore will buy it on console. Not to mention being able to get the console one for $20 along with the price of the PC version these days means you can get the PC version AND console version for cheaper than the console version alone... That's not even taking into account the price the PC version will be in a few months time.

Honestly this wouldn't be that bad of a deal if it was cross platform. I purchased both the PC and PS3 version of FFXIV (which was more than $20.00) just so I could have that feature. Not only that but having access to stream to Vita is nice as well. Putting this on separate platforms with separate servers is a death sentence at this point for a P2P game. No one is gonna want to level on both PC and PS4 or Xbox One with this deal.

But are those people likely to even have a gaming PC in the first place if they prefer playing games on consoles?

I have a gaming PC and I'll be damned if I play anything other than an exclusive on a console when I could be playing it on PC.

There's is only one place on the planet where people who prefer playing games on console also own SLI rigs with Titans. And that's Gaff.

currently you can get the game on Amazon for $40. So between that and the $20 upgrade you are essentially getting to play the game "now" for the same price you were GOING to play it on the PS4 anyway.

I mean the point still stands "then why wouldn't you just keep playing on the PC and save $20" but it all comes down to how it turns out on the PS4. FFXIV plays beautifully on PS4 with zero downgrade from the PC so to speak. So having the option of playing it either place is REALLY nice.

though here you don't really have that option as they are separate servers. If they actually combine PC and PS4 servers... I would still consider this. Here's to hoping.

Except for frame rate.

This should be the case always. In every multi-plat game. It could only lead to larger and healthier onlien communities and longevity for your game. I'm not sure why devs/publishers don't push the console manufacturers for this more.

I pretty strongly disagree. While it doesn't hold a solid 60fps, it never dips to anything atrocious. I have video recorded of an Odin battle where the only noticeable "drops" are network based.. i.e. everything the PS4 client is rendering (like my character and spells) are full frame rate and the only stutters are from network updates (like Odin movement, etc).

I don't play the game so I'm only going from the reports I've read online, and they ALL mention FXAA on PS4 vs more options for AA on PC, lower AF on PS4 vs PC, screentearing on PS4, and a slower frame rate on PS4 vs the PC (30-45 FPS on PS4 with occasional lifts to 60 FPS).

Eurogamer for example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-final-fantasy-14-ps4-face-off

I'm not saying the PS4 verison has terrible framerate or a terrible port, but the downgrade is non-zero, just wanted to clarify.

Guessing they realized they wouldnt be able to pass playstation cert with how buggy the game is.

Console version will be the more polished version, how sad.

Another reason to not give a fuck about this game. It will be F2P by then. That's when I'd probably give it a chance.

Please don't derail this thread with your master race attitude.

The hell? He brought it up. Why don't you ignore the posts that you aren't interested in?

I'llignore your rudeness and say that: You're probably right that this will go F2P, and that's when anyone should even think about giving it a chance.
