Story

A child wishes the elebits away, but his wish comes true and not there is no electricity. The elebits have gone into hiding and it's your job to find them and restore the worlds electricity. The child captures them with something that is reminiscent of a gravity gun that he gets from his father.

Gameplay

The gameplay works like a first person hide an go seek game. Your hand is basically your gun and it gets stronger as you catch more elebits. At first you'll only be able to manipulate small objects but as the game goes on, you'll be throwing gas tankers around like they are basket balls.

The gun also acts as your hand in that you have to rotate your wrist to rotate objects in the game. Want to open that door? Grab the knob and twist. If you find a grabage can, you can grab it with your gun and twist your hand to turn it over. Whip it up and down to get those elebits out of there.

Capturing elebits does one more thing, it restores electricity to the world. This sets you up with more puzzles since many appliances need electricty to work.

Got enough electricity to make the oven work? Put the turkey in there and turn it on. When you do, elebits should come flying from the inside.

Multiplay/Extras

Elebits is the first game to offer wii connect 24 features in North America. You unlock objects to place in the levels konami has for you. You can't make your own levels, instead you populate them with objects you unlock by getting through the single player. I believe that konami does have the ability to release new levels for everyone though. So we may get new levels down the road. The levels you create, you can share with friends who own the game.

Elebits also has a 4 player co-op/competitive play. What I mean by co-op/competitive is that even though you are playing against each other, sometimes you may have to work together to get things going.

Elebits also has a screenshot utility built in. You can take screenshots at any time and send them to friends. I believe this is a wii connect 24 feature, so we should see any title that utilizes wii connect 24 use this as well.

Notable maps (by gaffers)

I hope that we can make and share some good, fun maps. I'll be putting the names/creator of the best maps here, so that anyone coming in can see which maps are really good and make a request for them. Hopefully this ends up being a usefull feature. I'm looking forward to seeing your levels!

Wii number exchange

Since mostly everyone who is active in this thread will have elebits, it would be nice to exchange wii numbers among us to make exchanging maps easier. I'll be adding those that want to be added.

Why do most games on Nintendo system looks so kiddish, not necessarliy bad but just not my taste.

I think it has a very katamari Damacy look to it. Given, Katamari is based more on design than this one. I think Elebits was going for a more homely look. The artwork shows that perfectly. In fact, this game has some of the best art I've seen for a game.

I really wish the game's graphics even bothered to SLIGHTLY resemble the games stellar concept art. The in-game graphics are so painfully dull, while the artwork shines and has a real magical warmth to it.

Really annoys me when a game doesnt live up to its concept art, especially nowadays.

Yeah, it is definitely a shame. But, I think it was because of all the interactions that happen with the physics that they couldn't do it. This game already chugs at some points. Had they put more detail into all the setting, it would be crawling along. If the developers make a sequel I'm sure it will resemble the artwork a bit more due to experience with the console.

The art is insanely awesome, too bad it didn't translate into the in game graphics.

This seems like its one of those games that sounds extremely stupid when described but is actually really fun.

I asked this in the impressions thread earlier, but can anyone confirm if you can play your own music via SD card?

I'm starting to get really into it. Once you get past the tutorial levels and into the rule-based play, it gets pretty fun! I definitely got Katamari feelings at points, particularly when getting enough energy to lift certain objects/power something big I passed a while back. It is like an efficiency puzzle, just like Katamari was. They definitely paid close attention to the core of what made the Katamari Damacy gameplay experience. I'm not all gung-ho like I was with Katamari, but I'm still enjoying it quite a bit.

Just got it in the mail today. Along with my extraordinarily masculine plush doll. Loads of fun, not too difficult, mostly just tossing junk around with the wiimote and searching for those little buggers. I've only gone through three levels, so we'll see what it has in store. Level editor looks cool, can't wait to dive into that.

You can't just toss junk around in the later levels if you want to get an S or even pass the level.

so far I am really enjoying this game, it might be my second favorite Wii game. I havent played it too much, but I like how to open doors and use switches you have to turn your hand in real life (kinda like how it seemed in Metroid Prime 3).

and about playing music off your SD card, I havent seen that option anywhere, I dont know if im missing it or not. The game does let you play any of its songs in any level you want after you played that level.

That's my Wii code. I plan on making some levels tonight and tomorrow. Send me a PM if you add me.

I played a few levels tonight, and so far the game is just plain fun. I definately took this game for something much more shallow based on early vids. It very much has that Katamari feel of progression. The controls are super responsive. The graphics aren't hardly as washed out as I thought they'd be. They get the job done rather nicely actually. Sound is good as are half of the music tracks I've heard so far. A few of them are slightly faster and modified versions of the level before it. Interaction with appliances, like bread in the toaster or thawing ice blocks with elebits in them are really nice touches. Some levels require that you don't surpass a certain noise level or else you fail, others require that you don't break a certain number of items that are fragile, like plates, bottles, jars, etc... I haven't played 2 player yet or made any levels so I can only comment on the single player stuff.

Right now I can definately say that this is my 2nd favorite Wii title under Zelda. It definately feels like something new, mostly due to the fantastic controls and much better than expected physics and progression of your strength level to interact with larger objects. I highly doubt many people would be disappointed with this game. It might not be a game that you'd sit and play for 5-6 hours on end, but definately a few hours here or there for some good fun. I'd bet multiplayer player is going to be a blast.

OK, impressions.

The game is very entertaining. All the levels do a great job of having points of interest everywhere and once your done, you move on. Interestingly, there is always reason to go back, as your beam goes stronger.

The developers really took time to get the puzzle right. They aren't always completely obvious and aren't always directly visible. In the first level there is a set of blocks on the floor. In the closet though, is a block holder. The thing is, you don't really know what it is until you take it down. When you put the coresponding blocks on it, you get some nice bonus elebits.

2 player is pretty fun and gets really hectic. By the time our 10 minutes were up, the room was completely trashed.

Another great thing is that even after you find the elebits, if you can't catch them in time, they go hide again. Whats troubling about this is that if you've made a mess of everything, there is literally hundreds of places where they can be and many times you won't find them again.

The game has a ton of longevity as you get graded on every mission. Better grades yield better rewards. Challenge modes (on a per-level basis), score attack, edit and endless modes open up depending on how good you do in a given level. Also, items open up in your edit mode as you play through the game and collect different rare items. This is really a game that can keep you going for a long time and still deliver some fun times.

While the graphics aren't amazing, you almost forget about them after a while due to all the mayhem going on. I can understand some people who may have a problem due to the graphics, but it's at least worth a try.

If anyone wants to know anything else, let me know.

Sega, I'll put your number up as well as my own.

Fresquito, I'm really not sure as I haven't dug in to edit mode yet. I'll let you know as soon as I know.

ant1532, if this hasn't been answered already, it uses your wii friend code, so everyone on your address book is already in the game.

More people need to buy this game. It's so much fun. I've played a total of 9 hours so far in 2 days (that's a lot for me). I've heard there are over 25 levels and I only just beat the 7th stage. I've replayed a lot of the stages trying to earn S status. Also, I can't quite find the pink elebits in some levels, so I still have lots to unlock. The inclusion of the endless and challenge modes is really a great idea. In challenge, the only thing that remains the same is the level (hallway, bedroom, kitchen, etc.), everything else is changed though: the items, the objective, time. In one level, you have to carefully pick apart a pyramid of cups and other household items to get to the bottom where you collect the three elebits required to pass the stage. It's not as easy as it sounds because if you make too much noise or break anything, you fail. And you only have a limited amount of time to complete it, 30 seconds I believe. Another challenge has you shake a trash can so elebits will come flying out. An unlimited amount of elebits will come out if you keep shaking it, but you only have thirty seconds, so you have to stop shaking at around 6 or 7 seconds left and pick up the vaccum power-up and suck up all the elebits. Endless mode allows you to play the stages without any time limit or restrictions. That way, you can find all the nests and try to figure out the puzzles on your own time.

I've made one level so far in the map editor. I made a room full of tables, and on those tables are expensive china. Also, I set a hat rack somewhere in the stage. It's so fun taking a long pole and smashing everything into bits.

Multiplayer is fun. Haven't really played too much because my brother refuses to let me through doors. I open them, and he closes them. I have to find a way to distract him in the game to get through. It kind of adds to the strategy of the game, I guess. It's super hectic, you can't even see what your doing half the time. I can't imagine playing 4 player.

I wish the music was better in the game. Can't say that I actually hear the music when I'm playing because I'm so focused on the goal. Sega should let Konami borrow Hideki Naganuma for the next game. That would be sweet.

Played a little bit this morning before work. I have to say, it gets better and better. Hopefully I can start editing some maps tonight

Dracos, spiffyG and sega, check your PMs. :)

So Wii games which use WiiConnect service donÂ’t actually have a logo on the box art to say so?

Does it have a symbol on the back at the top?

no, theres no logo anywhere. I didn't think about that, but thats kind of weird.

I actually think when the Wii online system is fully up and running all games are gonna have some online component tucked in.

DidnÂ’t Nintendo previously say that you can screen grab all games and send them to your address book?

If all games have some online component, no symbol is needed really?

I've been watching this game since it was first shown, i'm really glad it seems to be living up to it's potential.

just one thing though:

EU/AUS - March 2007

WTF?? Am I going to have to buy a US Wii just so I can play half the games? Seriously, first no TC or ET at launch, now this.

THIS IS WHY YOU MAKE MULTI-REGION CONSOLES NINTENDO!!!!! I WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY!!

so, one universal friends code or a code for each game?

:(

pokemon battle revolution seems to use an individual code.

You cannot take a screen grab in all games. The game have to offer the option. So far only Elebits does i think.

has anyone found all 3 pink elebits on the 2nd stage? argh, it's driving me crazy... but god i love this game. i've spent more than 4 hours already on just the first 3 stages.

man, finding the pink ones is a little hard. And when you do they teleport out of there in an instant. I only found 2 in the first stage. I found the third as the clock went to 0.

Just for anyone who is interested, I played around with the edit mode today. Its very robust. They give you all the items you have seen/used in the single player game to use in the edit mode. Any elebits you have caught can also be used. It's pretty easy to place objects around the rooms.

While I don't know how much space is taken per map you make, I know that they give you 42 slots for self made levels. They also give you an extra 18(?) slots for levels from friends. I really don't think they are that big though, because you don't make any new levels, you just populate them. That kind of code is probably just a text file that tells the engine where everything is.

This is a little off topic, but I think I'll discuss it a bit here. Elebits uses you friends from your wii address book. I think the reason pokemon doesn't is because it uses your DS Pokemon game to access your data and go online. Maybe they just had to put another code in because of this. I'm not an expert on coding for online multiplay, so I'm really just guessing here.

I'm thinking of getting this.

Katamari has never appeald to me at all.

Will I have fun?

I think the reason people compare this to katamri is because of the art and the fact that there are 100s of manipulatable objects in each level. Other than that though, its a different approach and a really different experience.

I was initially worried that the gameplay would be kind of dull, but it really isn't. And the game will last me a long while, which is always a plus.

If I remember correctly, you played this at NYC before the wii was out right?

Seems Wii will have mostly universal friend codes.

Pokemon is a special case for two reasons:

1.) Mostly young children playing, so making more codes necessary reduces potential for abuse.

2.) It makes use of the DS games, which have individual friend codes. Its likely this is the reason the Wii game needs separate friend codes, because you're interacting with the DS game as well.

Yup. I played the first build at E3, and the 2nd build in NYC, and I enjoyed the improvments that I saw in the game, but I'm on the fence whether or not the final package can justify the $50 spend.

I liked the short bursts I've had with it, but does the gameplay evolve and hold up over time?

The gameplay structure is the same too I think. Catch things to get stronger and access bigger things that allow you to get even stronger and catch even bigger things and ......................

it does. Overtime new objectives are added (like a limit to broken objects or noise level) and each level unlocks new challenges. Challenge mode really makes you be careful and think out your moves. you also unlock score attack and endless mode. You may not sit down for 4 hours playing this game, but you can sit comfortably for 1-2 hours, play and feel like you've accomplished something.

also, people make maps and distribute them, it will greatly add to the longevity of this game. I know I keep saying that, but it's true.

I guess if you are on the fence, you should rent and see if you enjoy it.

PsychoCandy, I understand what you are saying, but I just think the feel is so different. For me, what made katamari so awesome was the presentation. I'm a design freak so I really appreciated the effort there. The experience is a little different though. Here you have to find elebits in order to progress. This action of finding them though is what changes the experience. Katamari just had you rolling a ball and collecting objects. here you have to find critters that hide, run, sleep and roll (lol) in different places. And finding those elebits can get pretty creative.
