Ellen leaves American Idol

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I don't watch American Idol, but anything that gets ellen off TV is cause for celebration!

Ellen was horrible. I never knew a lesbian could suck so much.

I have to imagine that AI is calling Howard again, but I don't think he'd take it. Besides his ego, he put together valid reasoning for not taking the job.

And Howard LOVES mindess pop music :lol .

I actually think that for the show, J.Lo would be a good fit.

But it wouldn't be a shit show then. It would be the hardest party on TV.

People like Ellen?
Is there a reason people shouldn't? I've found her standup to be really good at times. Mind you I've never watched Idol or her daytime show except for the old youtube clip of that elderly lady calling in, but even then I was laughing pretty hard.

Adam Lambert killed Idol. Long live X-factor I guess.

Yep, he killed it because there will never be anyone as good as him. The dude can do things with his voice that very few people can. If only he would stop trying so hard to show how gay he is, he'd be tolerable.

J. Lo is a major upgrade from Ellen, who basically just took up time. She was a good mentor in season 6.

The old producing team is coming back, and it is increasingly likely that the panel will be all new.

I really hope x-factor us, which will probably reunite the original idol judges, doesn't get more popular. X factor is worse than idol in nearly every aspect.

Show needs a relaunch. Keep Randy as he has a contract and maybe Kara. More audition episodes as those are the best and bring in 2-3 guest judges each time. Then, get rid of the judges during the actual singing competition at the end and just have Randy and Kara give their opinions.

I only watch the auditions though so my 2 cents doesn't really matter. Only casually watched the actual competition a little bit with Kris Allen.

What is X factor? Isnt it essentially Americas Got Talent or what?

No, it's also a singing competition. It's handled differently though as the judges have more of a hand in who makes it through the main part of the competition than they do on AI. I think that's a big reason why Simon left AI.

Spiritual successor to idol from the uk. It is focused even more on he judges, each judge mentors contestants from different groups ( guys, girls, over 30's , groups). Judges essentially make contestants into products, picking their songs, arrangements, etc. Judges also vote to send a contestant home until the top 5 where audience vote is followed ( save for deadlock )

Edit: auditions are easily the worst part of the show. If anything needs more time, it's Hollywood week.

I disagree as it's the only part that I watch. :P I find the majority of singers that make it through to the main part of the competition to be a joke so that's not entertaining at all.

Huh, that does sound interesting.

They haven't been seriously funny in years, since truly bad people have stopped auditioning as much, so we get lame staged crap.

The likes of Crystal Bowersox, Allison Iraheta, and Lambert are a joke? They might have been on a reality show, but they are also really talented.

Why would they hire Stern when he has a hatred for the type of music they generally aim for with the winner? Cowell was really negative but he likes boy bands and other poppy stuff. Stern hates that shit.

Stern constantly admits to listening to shitty music. He loved the Miley Cyrus song "Climb."

He also knows it's not just about the ability to sing. It's the ability to be interesting and perform.

For all we know this is why she quit, maybe negotiations with Stern are heating up. She's said before she would not sit on a panel with him.

Stern wants 100 mil. I don't think Idol would give him that much and I think Stern would be too stubborn to settle for less.

Thats why we love him though

Another site is said that Steven Tyler was offered a spot along with Lopez.

Stern was never offered the job afaik. He started the rumor himself. Even with five second delay, they would not put him on live network tv weekly.

Hmm...I don't know. He said he could see earning $50 for working, essentially, for a couple of months and taking the rest of the year off.

J-Lo is the sort of "talent" who would have been booted off the show during auditions. Doesn't look very bright either. Couldn't they get Cyndi Lauper or Debbie Harry?

he didn't start the rumor himself. his name was floated up and he simply said he would judge a karaoke contest for $100 million. then the media made the same mistake you just did.

a 5 second delay like on Letterman? he's not stupid.

Not surprised about Ellen. She never looked like she's having any fun.

However, I hope Kara stay. She's the only one that gives out criticism and advice rather than soundbytes.

I like Ellen, but she really didn't belong on that show.

Also, it's amazing this show still finds such an audience when the only winning "Idols" I ever hear anything from are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, MAYBE Kris Allen (that "LIVE LIKE WE'RE DYING" song is so fucking bad), and runner-up Katharine McPhee.

Eh. Whatever.

Hey don't forget Jordin Sparks and Daughtry!

Funny enough, Taylor Hicks is playing at a local................club (I guess) tomorrow night. Kinda sad, really.

I approve of Steven Tyler, but only if he critiques the contestants to the wondrous melody of "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" every single time.

I proud to say that I didn't know she was on American Idol.

Haha, this.

I had no idea she was a judge. I vaguely remember Paula leaving. I didn't realize Paula and Simon are now gone.

The show still gets huge ratings though, right? So I'm sure they'll drag it on for another couple of seasons before they bin it.

But when is the last time American Idol produced a relevant music artist? I couldn't tell you who won the last 3 years and I doubt I would recognize their names if you told me. American Idol winners have become just like all the other reality show "winners". You get a cash prize and do PR events for 6-12 months and then be totally forgotten in 16-20 months.

However if Stern went on the show I would watch again just to see him burn down the ship. :lol

Too bad about Kara. She was improving as a judge. Great news about going back to a panel of 3. More time for singing

The problem with the producers are that they're trying to get famous people, and I'm sure that those famous people going to fall into the same trap as Ellen did: They won't want to be seen as being mean.

The reason Simon worked is that nobody knew who he was, and he had no real fame to lose when AI started, so he could be a right bastard.

But I'm sure that both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will have the thought in the back of their mind that they don't want to alienate any of their fans, and will accordingly pull their punches.

Howard Stern or bust. i never watch Idol, but i'm there day 1 if Stern is on.

I refuse to watch American Idol past season 1, but if Stern were a judge I would come back, no questions asked.

Awesome, back to 3 judges.

I like the x-factor, and have followed most of the UK seasons. Their finalists are altogether worse than an American idol finalist group. I guess if you're watching for the lulz, then the overproduced, cheesiness of x-factor is superior in almost every way.

So the new panel is Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler.

Finally only 3 judges again!

Well, I can't say I won't watch. Maybe Steven Tyler is a total dick.
