Ellen Page comes out as gay

Good for her. Maybe now the media can stop laughing behind the scenes when they "report" that she and Alexander Skarsgard are dating.
He's one of the big ones that people want to be gay, lol. I think Joseph Gordon Levitt is another one.

Basically the names that come up from this, lol. Andrew Garfield was also a suspect.
After reading this several months later, still sounds like Andrew Garfield.

Why are we congratulating her sexuality? It's the equivalent of congratulating a black guy for being black. Stop over hyping the lgbt community, they're getting tired of it. My gay cousins (all 5, 1 is a chick) even agree the media and community are over glamorizing human sexuality.

You don't seem to have a good grasp on, well, any aspect of this at all. Perhaps you should at least take a few minutes and watch what she had to say.

My gaydar was red lining all the way back to her childhood role in Trailer Park Boys. She looked so uncomfortable in that dress.

I didn't want to have to cross this one off my bucket list like this.

But good for her. She's probably relieved.

Edit: Oh god I just had it spoiled for me. I thought it was a joke about the original unveil. I'm sorry.

We live in a world where [something like] 97% of all people are heterosexual
I'm sorry if this is OT, but I'll just point out that I find that number incredibly low, if only because usually those numbers are based on self-reporting and I'm fairly certain that a lot of gays don't either say they are gay in those kinds of polls or live in denial, which makes the number seem a lot smaller than it really is, not to even mention how many people are probably bisexual (but, again, don't mark themselves as gay or bisexual in polls, live in denial or they just haven't explored their bisexuality due to the heterosexual norm in their culture that kind of doesn't give them the opportunity or need to do so, that is, if we'd live in a more sexually free world, I believe a lot more people could go either way). I'd be really interested to see a study of how many people are gay with DNA testing or something (if that was possible), if only to see how much of a difference it would make. I'd reckon it would show that it isn't nearly that huge of a majority who are purely heterosexuals.

You have 5 gay cousins? Let's talk more about that!
That's gotta be some serious statistical anomaly.

It would be nice to live in a world where no one has to come out and do whatever the fuck they want without first having to proclaim they are gay.

Yeah, she's pretty cool.

It really is shameful that gays have to "come out." They exist and they should be allowed to exist exactly equal to heterosexuals.

Her speech. Damn good.

so you dont think she was doing "gay things" before she said she was gay?

She's so tiny, but cute. You just want to carry her around in your pocket. She delivered that speech well, especially for being so nervous.

Good for her!

Didn't she denied it a while ago? Or denied to comment to questions alluding to her sexuality? Remember reading something on gaf along those lines.

Given that she mentions "lying by omitting" in her speech I'm assuming she just refused to comment on it before.

The point is I find it sad that people still have to be secretive about their sexuality when they are public figures.

I think he was referring to simply being able to just be herself in all aspects of her life, without trying to hide it. Be open in public with her partner, with those she works with, etc.

This.

Damn it Juno! I thought we had a thing :(

Good for her though, have always liked her.

Edit: Just watched the video, wow she sounded so nervous in the beginning there. Great speech though. Actually it was more it was just very emotional for her.

While I do like her speech, it's a bit incredulous. She attacks the population asking for more sympathy to one another but yet raises no questions against Hollywood.

There was this facade she put on to portray her roles that she did in Juno, Inception and X-Men to sell the movies. But isn't it Hollywood's fault that she couldn't come out as a gay person earlier?

This redirection that it's societies fault, I think is misguided. I mean come on, we live in an age where Ellen is one of the most popular talk shows on television. Lady Gaga is one of the most top selling artists in the world. I don't think anyone would have viewed Inception, or X-Men differently if people knew she was gay.

I dunno, I just think it's messed up that she puts this on "The World" but doesn't say shit about Hollywood that forced her into a lie to begin with.

Actors gonna act.

What does her being gay have to do with poor character development for the romantic interests in the game? :p

Hah well it would explain in my game where I made out with and was nice to the two male love interests but at the end of the game decide to
drop them both and raise a child.
;)

That or David cage sucks. But I enjoyed the game so I will not accept that as it implies something bout my taste.

I thought he was dating the tall guy from True Blood. Good for her anyway, there is nothing wrong with being gay and being proud of it.

Ellen Page is gay! The way she was in trailer park boys! She was very Tom boyish... And that was 8 years ago.

Edit: I just sent a text to my very hot lesbian friend to alert her out the news.

Also, she wasn't ever public with any partners

This is/was always the red flag for me. Once you get to the level she got with Juno, celebrity-wise, people care who you're with enough that tabloids will look to find out. Staying at that level for years and never being seriously attached to anyone (even in a "hooked up" way) is, while not impossible, highly unlikely for anyone straight and always makes me think that it's because they're gay and keeping it really down-low.
