Ellen Page may sue Sony over video game nudity (Beyond: Two Souls)

Look, I wasn't trying to offend anyone but yeah, I think it is making a stink to imply that any young, vulnerable looking girl with brown hair has to be Ellen Page.

Eliie looks a bit like her but a quick search shows that Ellie looks like the actress who plays her, just younger.

I see your point but IMO if you're going to even casually accuse someone of ripping off your likeness you should be sure and I don't think she did anything more than see Ellie and assume that it must be her they copied., which IMO is very arrogant. But I am willing to admit that I'm wrong and it sounds bad out of context or she didn't mean it that way. That's just how it sounds to me.

She didn't imply it. Somebody else did.

Still don't even get why it was put in considering it wasn't even shown.

Yeah, I scratched my head over this one. I mean if the no nude policy is a thing for her then they had to know the entire time. And come on, in this day and age, they had to know somebody was going to find a way to look at the entire model.

So the article is just jumping to conclusions, right? Besides I don't think she can sue. Body doubles are used all the time in Hollywood.

A ton of people were congratulating her for a role she didn't even play over Twitter. She even directed them to Ashley Johnson.

Something funny would be if devs would have censored the nipples on the 3D model with a troll face or Cage's face just to make fun of hackers.

But they're in the contract, and in fact, requested by the actress.

Ultimately, we don't know what was in her contract, but she's never been nude on film, and the game has two (three?) shower scenes, Page and her management would have known a nude character model would be appearing with Page's facial likeness, this should have come up.

I get the impression some people here haven't watched the scene (see the second post) but still feel the need to comment.

I was surprised to see that you don't even a see any areas of here that one could find distasteful and yet there is still shock, what a world.

It's not really the same thing as having a body double.

An actor in a film could presumably request that any nude scenes representing their character be absent from the product completely.

Here, they did a shower scene which was very careful to avoid any nudity and yet turned out to contain a naked model anyway.

Damn I love Ellen but if she sues Sony, I'd be pissed and would like never see her as I do now. (I love her!) Nobody messes with my Sony.

Regarding the nude model. Guys, the devs need it when modelling the character and making sure its like "perfect". Sure she could have a blank chest area but then it would look weird with her real life like facial appearance and body.

No what I find laughable is that one of the PR people says that "it not her body/doesnt represent her body". Well the only one who really knows is Ellen. I mean we have never seen her naked so technically yes its not her real titties out in the open. BUT I am confident that the devs have enough source material to work with off her that they could guesstimate her body features near to their real life counter part based on her weight/height and studio fotos.

Edit:
For those having a hard time seeing italics, yes im F'in joking. Holy shit some of you need to get off GAF for a but.

I get the impression you haven't read about the matter further. People have hacked the game so they can see the full model.

Oh okay, I apologise then. Interesting that people would want to see this.

I may ask how intricate the model is though and on what grounds Ms. Page could sue (assuming she would want to).

Pretty sure she was being trolled, that happened right after she complained about them stealing her likeness.
The impression that I got was that she complained because of the tweets to her, but I'll concede that I'm not too clear on the timeline.

No that scene is the legitimate scene.

The one that that is being alleged in the article is a topless almost full nude capture that was found via a debug PS3 unit that was apparently hidden in the game. It's kind of like the Hot Coffee GTA San Andreas incident.

lol, wut?

You'd think Quantic Dream would have the foresight to have not included a fully-detailed nude model of her in the game for situations such as this. Hackers were going to find the model, just like they did with that girl from Heavy Rain.

I hope you're fucking joking.

Look, I get the need to render a naked body... but nipples? Why? It's a texture that doesn't impact the actual model.

It's like Vanille in FFXIII. They have a nude model for
the crystal scene
, chest obscured... and yet, the ripped model has nipples.

It seems really odd that info wouldn't have been shared although it's also odd that it wasn't just a mannequin style body.

Game devs alot of the times make base naked/nude male/female models, then they add clothing and such later on. Shocking, I know

Yes. What is also shocking is that they wouldn't have the foresight to remove a full naked model of a high profile celebrity in their game prior to releasing it. Most games have solutions for this (ie. no nipples on models, etc), but in this case someone took the time to use a realistic nude model and left it in the game with Ellen Page's face on it. Not to mention is very vocal against being nude on camera. Such a stupid, bush league move.

If she didn't know about it, she has every right to sue. But she had to have signed off, right? It wouldn't make sense to make a nude model of her without telling her.

If she didn't agree to it, she should sure as hell sue.

I don't know. The situation is weird. Obviously QD had no intention of something like this happening, and the official release didn't have. Someone used a hacked PS3 with and used dev code of the game to do this, and even then it is a digital character. Just feels like the sooner this dies the better for all parties. Bringing this to court only magnifies the problem, because now that it is out in the wild there is nothing anyone can do. Ellen Page doesn't need the money so she only stands to lose even if she wins the case.

They shouldn't have had a detailed nude model in her likeness in the first place. That they did speaks to their intentions.

Digital character or not, its her image and likeness and has her name attached and that is in her contro unless she has given her permission here, which doesn't seem to be the case.

But isn't the point not to hide the images, more than discredit them as being representative of her?

The same way there are probably lots of photoshops of her head on a nude body, but no one would care, because it's not her.

I would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

That is so not how it works Sony. Imagine other companies/celebrities trying to use that statement?

Microsoft: We are proud of our extremely consumer unfriendly DRM practices, and we would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."

Tiger Woods: "I do not have a sex addiction problem and I would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."

Roger Clemmons, Lance Armstrong and Barry Bonds: "We did not do steroids, we would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."

Jerry Sandusky: "I didn't have any inappropriate contact with any young boys and I would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."

Gabe Newell: "I did not eat Steve Jobs I would really appreciate if you can take the story down to end the cycle of discussion around this."
