We aren't in the mood for the games we already have (FIFA and NintendoLand for Wii U, and a bunch of the obvious retail games for 3DS including Mario Kart). So we're looking for a new downloadable game that we can play together tonight. We're happy to pay, but we just don't want to leave. Heh.

On 3DS there's Heroes of Ruin, that diablo style game from N-Space, Starfox 64 3D has single card download play so you only need one copy of the game.

NSMBU is tons of fun multiplayer; you need somebody good with boost mode to keep the party going though.

Tank! Tank! Tank!'s My Kong mode is fun, not sure if it's on sale still. The actual game is free.

Tekken Tag 2's mushroom mode and tekken ball are crazy fun

Monster Hunter has a 4 player in room co-op with a Wii U and 3 3DS systems. Tank!(x3) is fun for how much it costs. Also NSMBU.

I don't know if the 3DS port plays significantly different or if it's missing any content, so I can't comment on that, but it is known to have pretty bad framerate issues. I played the demo myself and found this too.

Motoheroz in the Wii shop channel. Its made by the same people that made trials but cartoony and crazy. Its loads of fun. Try it!

Luigi's Mansion 2 has pretty good multiplayer, and there's a Download Play mode too if you want to test it out before buying the full version on all 4 3DSs.

Found some reviews. Apparently, the port suffers massively from those framerate issues.

As others have said, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Tranformed is one of the best kart racers in a longggg time. Definitely recommend it!

EDIT: I've heard the 3DS version is not that great. So get the Wii-U version if that is your other option.

Luigi's Mansion 2? Well, it *is* on the eShop and it supports download-and-play, so you only need one copy. The downloaded copies can also play online on their own, which is neat.
