Ack, Valley Girl accents...too used to hearing her Received Pronunciation accent.

It's one of those US accents like the Boston one that somewhat grate on me...

That's dreadful. I thought, "why does it always have to be ditzy?" But then I thought what would a "smart valley girl sound like?" After a moment's consideration my brain shut down.

How do you think I feel with all the valley girl haters? xD

Two hates don't make a love :-)

Don't hate the Queen's English!

Valley girl is pretty much the global standard anyway! You guys set the trends for pretty much every young person. The Queen's is on its way out.

To be fair, the post you quoted was me replying to someone about VG being obnoxious.

It doesn't say that. It talks of the typical accent, but a number of traditional accents in Britain have remained the same.

Yeah, exactly - there are accents (albeit from less populated and internationally recognised places) that have not been changed all that much in a very similar way to many accents in the US have over the past two hundreds years.

Whereas some of the more diverse places such as London and Manchester have changed significantly, and I suspect you would see a similar thing in many of the diverse areas of the US.

I actually like the valley girl thing, I think it's cute. Best American accent is a southern one though, southern girls are awesome.

Southern accents (at least the majority of them, there are a ton of different ones) are good when there's a slight accent at most. Heavy southern accents bother me too much

This is the biggest turn-off in the world. Goddamn.

It's like she dropped 30-40 points on the IQ scale somehow. Can't stand it.

As much as it pains me to say it, that's not a valley girl accent but some kind of new affectation that some of the Starbucks set right here in NYC have picked up.

I don't know how it started, but I hear it even at work.

Why do the English keep on with this English accent crap? We beat your ass during the American Revolution, and saved your ass during Dubbya Dubbya 2.

Well in that case you Americans should be speaking French because you wouldn't have won in 1776 without them sticking their nose in.

this is awful, but I guess you gotta pander to that American audience if you want a career

really grating. ugh

Yeah, it's an upper-middle-class urban white girl accent more than a valley-girl accent. The character Shoshanna from Girls speaks this way and embodies the type. But for what it's worth, Emilia nailed it, too.

I never really understood all the people who claim she can't act. I've never had a problem with her on screen abilities and this just shows how easy she finds accents.

Also, the valley girl accent in short bursts is adorably sexy. Long term? Not so much.

Most critics seem to love her. I think it's because a lot of these forums have a large amount of Dany hate due to ADWD, where her chapters were unbearable. She was fantastic this season imo.
