Emily Rogers: (Rumor) Retro Studios NX game isn't Metroid or DKC. Releases 2017.

I think it got posted earlier in the thread, but about the same time Retro finished up with DKCR:TF they hired a graphics and cinematics artist from Naughty Dog, a Character Artist who had worked on Darksiders and a guy who was the graphics engineer for Visceral ( EA)

There was also a rumour going around that Retro were building a new next gen Multi Core- game engine. seems like the timeline matches up pretty well for the NX, and if Nintendo was building a new engine from scratch it could explain some delays.

Here's hoping its retros version of an uncharted/Tombraider clone

I've been saying this. If Nintendo really wants to get a better and more open image of themselves, then they would expand Retro and let them make a Uncharted type of game. Let them make a realistic looking type of IP. Let them make an open world mature game. Or let them make a WRPG!

I would love to see if Retro could make any of these and it would help Nintendos image so much + expand their portfolio + opens them up to a new audience they don't have who would buy their system for those types of experiences.

This could potentially still be a Nintendo IP that isn't DK or Metroid, right? This doesn't necessarily mean it's a new IP.

Also, the rumor says it's not DKC specifically, so it could be another type of DK game. Like a 3D DK platformer? Who knows?
Can someone answer this please? Did she clarify in meaning it's a brand new IP altogether or is she saying its a new IP meaning they're working on another Nintendo IP that's not Metroid or DK related?

Federation Force is Metroid's swan song you guys

No more Metroids after that

I've been expecting them to say 'this is Metroid's last chance' ever since they said the same thing about Chibi-Robo.

Then again, it really depends if they know how BADLY they fucked up with this one.

They probably don't.

No thanks. Also, those particular hires were from 2011-2012 well before Tropical Freeze was even revealed. Frankly I wouldn't use any hiring as sign of what Retro might be doing.

Anybody remember that Star Fox and Metroid crossover rumor from long ago?

Yeah, that was a game that Retro Studios did have as a proposal from talks between them and Nintendo at one time, but it never moved on to development. It was a pretty interesting concept though and definitely could have worked if handled correctly.

Instead, from Retro Studios on Wii U, we got Tropical Freeze in 2014 and SF Zero from Nintendo/Platinum Games in 2016. I wonder how "Fusion Saga" would have turned out of Retro did in fact go forward with it and how would that game be received.

Of course it is not, Nintendo is trolling me. Every successor I want won't be developed. No new Metroid Prime, no new Wave Race, no Mario 64 remake, no new Lego City Undercover.

Retro tends to have a 3 year dev cycle, so 2017 makes sense given that TF released in 2014. Whatever it is, I look forward to it finally being unveiled, hopefully later this year.

Holy shit it's Paul Gale

Hmm no Metroid was the reason I never bought a WiiU because that and Zelda are my favorite series from Nintendo. I really hope we see a Metroid game for NX.

Wonder what went down for development to be abandoned? Any ideas?

We had rumor some time ago which said Retro pitched something at Nintendo and it was accepted right ? Maybe it was true after all

If there's no Metroid, I'm fine with a new IP. I can only imagine what Retro could do if they
could let their creative minds go wild.

Setting myself up for disappointment, then if the game is better than an Amiibo-driven NX gimmick showcase I'll be pleasently surprised.
